  • We are back with another wild camping video and this time I am testing out my new tent which I bought to reduce pack weight.
I decide to take advantage of a mid week sunny day and head out to Derbyshire on the hunt for a sacred burial ground hidden in an ancient woodland.
As usual, things do not go as planned and I have a few mishaps along the way!
Come with me as I explore enchanted woods, do a bit of deer stalking, and have a giggle pitching my new tent!
Had fun filming this one, hope you enjoy,

I have that tent and it is a good one, but yes, it did not come with directions. First, extend all of the black ground tie outs to maximum length. Stake out the 4 corners tight. Place the trecking pole with a length of 125 cm. Stake out the front guy line and peg it in the loop. Go around and around pegging the other lines and tighten them. The front line comes down from the peak to the front stake and a shorter line goes back to the vestibule and hooks to both sides with that double hook. Pitch the tent 2-3 inches from the ground to help prevent condensation. Mine does not leak, but will sag after a storm and requires the black tie outs to be tightened. I enjoyed your hike! Thank you

I wanted to write to thank you for your site which has proved a great comfort as I feared blindness. All now is happily resolved but I squinted at your videos like a wizard or a witch. I tried to write you a story, I have no talent for videos, as some small recompense. I am told I have a talent for words, I am not so sure but without words there is only silence. Walk well and long. Jesus, I think,I am channelling Mr Spock there. My late mother was the Star Trek fan. I loved her very much but she went to conventions wearing Star Trek uniform. You have no idea how splendid and embarrassing that was. With best wishes.

One of the things I love about that whole area is the number of quiet little spots you can find even on the busiest of days. Dol Tor circle is a little gem and it's always a treat to see the deer.
The quarries are really interesting historically. I know they wanted to reopen them but a prolonged tree top protest managed to stop that happening.
Thanks for another great little video. Always a pleasure to see you out and about.
Good luck with the new job.x

Fisrt time viewer, and liking what I see. Subscribed! If the grass is long in your pitching site, I just lay down and roll if the grass is dry. If wet, and you have a tarp/grounsheet, lay that first and then roll. The first option may have tick problems, but wild camping usually does and sensible people take the neccessary measures. Keep doing what you love. Regards, Chas.

The trekking pole tents are easy to put up but not as simple as a normal tent. Have a look at "Hunt on the Trails" "Hiking with Martin" and "Long Suffering Hiker". They all go into using trekking pole tents, although I think the 2 pole variety. They seem to be set up similarly, although I only have the latter. It's frustrating watching you at times, I wish I could give you advice through the screen. I definitely admire your determination and perseverance. This should be a great positive when you start your new job.
    Good luck and well done.

I love that whole area - lived there for a while when we were opposing the attempted re-opening of Endcliffe and Lees Cross Quarries but that's another story... Doll Tor is a lovely little spot and there's loads of other interesting stuff round there like Robin Hood's Stride, Hemit's cave, Nine Stones Close, Andle Stone, Cork Stone and lots of other, smaller ancient sites actoss Stanton Moor... I've got a Gatewood Cape tent which is a similar design to the Lanshan. They key for that one is getting certain points pegged out in the right shape (in the case of the Gatewood - the back guy rope and the two side ones) and then adding the trekking pole and pegging out the rest. Also, it pitches better if the fly sheet is a bit off the ground (longer pole length) so it is the right distance from the inner tent and gives good ventilation. Hope this helps! It's nice to see you exploring some of the places I've been in the past and hope to revisit again sometime. Also great to see your mistakes and learning as you go - very important as we often live in a world of social media where things look so perfect and unnatainable for lots of people which can be demoralising. Hope you manage to get the knack of the Lanshan, I look forward to seeing you out in it soon, all the best, Andy

I’ve got a Lanshan 1 and it’s notoriously difficult to pitch until you’ve tried it a few times. The best video by far is by Long Suffering Hiker, once you’ve seen that you can really fine tune it. Pole height needs to be 125cm - and you need to have the all the adjusters at the pegs at their slackest before you put the pole in. The pegging point for the pole is in that knotted loop that you mentioned (this bit is crucial and it’s worth using a stronger peg here) and the rams head fastens onto the tent doors at the bottom then you can adjust the pegging out points accordingly . Sort the basics out and understand how it works before you start replacing bits with the accessories that you’ve bought . Good luck!

Normally, Lanshan 1/2 is waterproofed in the factory, but I suggest applying glue to the side black wind ropes. In case of heavy rain, the seams at that position will seep a small amount of water.

make them more straight (inline) with the tent so u get a triangle and then cinch it as yopu go along :) and the pole a bit higher :) that ram head hellps so the door bits at bottom so it dont snap and feed a guy rope through it and just attach the metal hook end to the door and wallah! the croc clips are more for tthe flappy bits at the bottom around the tent top tension it a bit more will need some guy ropwe for them too :)

Loved the search for the 'Stones' and I sure it was worth it. It is always amazing when we come across deer on our adventures/walks. For me it was either a tent similar to a Lanshan or a tarp and I went for the tarp as the configurations are endless, just require an imagination. Great to see you out again, and we being the audience spoiled with yet again a fantastic adventure. Keep em coming.

I've always struggled a bit with my Lanshan 1, there seems to be a greater amount of fiddling to get it right than any of my other tents and mine didn't come with a groundsheet which apparently helps a lot as it shows you where the pegs go. Last summer I ended up mostly using a tarp tent instead but I'm going to keep trying with the Lanshan 1 because once it's up it's great and it's very light and packs up tiny.

Hyah Lilu. I sympathise with you about the tent as I have recently bought a Night Cat one which is very similar to the Lanshan and is the same shape but with the major difference that it came with the seams already sealed. I think the extra piece with the double hook is for the bottom of the outer door. The Night Cat has a similar bit that is used (I think!) to hold the door shut.
I noticed that you had not fitted the bottom of the treking pole through the loop on the base of the bath tub floor. It sticks out right at the bottom. This will help line the pole up properly. Also the pole was not extended far enough to tension the tent properly.
On the Night Cat it says to fit the inner tent to the same pegs as the outer before putting the pole in so that should help as well. Peg all the corners and the rear of the tent before you put in the pole so that you'll have a better idea how high the pole needs to go and don't forget to have the door zipped shut while you fit the pole. You can then pull the door out and peg it out.
One thing that I've found useful is to run the side guy lines around a couple of spare tent pole sections to give you more space inside by keeping the fabric up a little. I am 6'2" tall and last time I forgot to take them. I was sleeping with the inner tent in my face all night! I have some spare tent poles made of fibreglass which I would be happy to send you but they shouldn't be hard to come by and you don't need fancy metal poles for that purpose. Of course, they add a little weight to your pack but I think they're well worth the effort.
The main thing is to practice putting the tent up when you're not going to sleep in it - do it in your garden (or in my case my son's garden as I live in a flat) until you are sure you can get the tent up even in windy conditions.
    I hope these tips help.
But above all, keep having fun. I watch your videos (I subscribed many months ago) and you do seems to enjoy your wild camping trips.

Hi. The video by Long Suffering Hiker that others have mentioned helped me get the Lanshan pitched along with some practice at home. He also has a video on modifications to the tent, some are worth doing and some I am not so sure about. The guylines are plenty strong enough, I wouldn't replace them. All the best for the new career.

  • @Mickoutdoors
    @Mickoutdoors Месяц назад +2

Hey I have the lanshan 1, couple of things if you've not worked it out yet, the metal clasp is called the rams head, it's only to replace the already fitted plastic one as they're prone to snapping, mine hasn't though, secondly if your lanshan 1 has the seperate inner (not the pro version) it doesn't require seam sealing, as it's only the pro that requires sealing.
It can be a chew to pitch but once you've done it a few times you'll get faster, for the record I hate my lanshan 1 and try not to use it as it makes me cry uncontrollably 😂😂😂

The attachment loop right at the very top of the flysheet is presumably for attaching to a convenient overhead tree branch instead of a trekking pole.
The other guy line at the top of the fly goes down to a peg then back towards the door bottoms. The double metal hook thingy attaches to the two door bottoms. Pole at 125/130cm.

@@AdventuresWithLilu it could be something in the bag as well though. Try talcum powder, I've heard it sometimes helps.
The lanshan .. it's all about getting the tensions right but you do it in stages. Put the footprint down with the guys running diagonally in line with the centre point of the groundsheet. Make it quite tight. Undo the guy adjusters (the triangular bits of plastic) to max length and put the bathtub, flysheet and footprint guys all on the same peg. Put your trekking pole in (BOTH adjusters set to 120cm) then peg out the four guys. Go back round the corner guys and tighten them. Then do the same with the guys. I'd recommend changing the guy with the rams horn on to a different set up. Rambling On has a great video about mods on his channel.

I have a Lanshan One. Your pole height is wrong, my pole is 120cm. Lay out 4 corners, all strings/straps all in line with outer tent seam, then push in 4 pegs, once done push in rear middle peg. All adjustable straps to be at their maximum. Open main zip, push 120cm pole into top area (handle at top) which is reinforced, then pull up to vertical then peg line into ground. Pointy end goes into grommet at bottom of tent. You can tell how vertical your pole needs to be by standing to one side and making a judgement about the angle of the rear of the tent that you want. Ignore line at top of tent. Now return to 5 pegs, tighten straps and tent will show its proper shape. I got rid of the main line set up, and just use a single cord with a loop at the end pegged into ground, some people keep it as it is. I then pull out and peg the left side of the tent entrance and zip secure the right side when I'm in the tent. If wet, the tent sags, my remedy is just before settling for the night I walk around the tent and tweak all the straps tight. I really like the tent because it's so lightweight and have never had a problem with it, and its seams are waterproof. Make sure your model is, if not you will have to seal it yourself. My inner is a separate mesh, and has a 'T' zip set up, some models have a 'j' zip setup. Also look up 'Lanshan One' on RUclips, so many suggestions, tweaks, and ideas to help you really like your tent. Good luck with it.
