Hangzhou city sees heavy rainfall as 'Thousand Island Lake' opens floodgate

The southern part of China has recently entered the rainy season, and Hangzhou City has experienced heavy rainfall.
Some netizens shared images of flooded roads at Lingyin Temple and other areas in the West Lake scenic area in Hangzhou.
By around 8 a.m., community workers in the Lingyin area had already completed the drainage work on the flooded roads.
Hangzhou is renowned for its picturesque landscapes, most notably the scenic West Lake, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is often referred to as "Heaven on Earth" or "Paradise of China," reflecting its beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural heritage.
Since the rainy season, water level of the Xin'an River Reservoir, more commonly known as Qiandao Lake, in Hangzhou continues to raise.
By noon today, it had reached 104.30 meters.
To balance the upstream and downstream areas, the Xin'an River Hydropower Station has opened one out of its nine floodgates, releasing water at a rate of 300 cubic meters per second.
This is only the eighth time the station has released water since it was completed and became operational in 1959.
While the floodgates are open, the Xin'an River Hydropower Station is operating at full capacity.
