Howdy BG:. Love this band! Here's what I've gathered over the few months I've been listening to VOB. Indonesia is a majority Muslim country. Marsya (guitar, lead vocals), Widi (bass), and Siti (drums) are practicing Muslims (hence, the hijabs/hair covering). In their early days, some of the more conservative minded people didn't agree with "girls playing rock music" (or having jobs for that matter). These ladies were harassed up to and including death threats. They grew weary of the attacks and asked their counselor at the time (now their manager) what they should do. He asked if they still believed in God. They said that of course they did. So, the counselor said "Ask God what you should do". That was the genesis of "God, Allow Me (please) to Play Music". So, the question became the answer and here we are!
A couple of tracks I'd recommend are "Sundanese Instrumental" and "Age Oriented" - both live in FR and "(Not) Public Property" - mv. Thanks man! 🕊

The head covering is called a hijab. It is pretty standard for Muslim women from any country. I often see it in the US as well. The hijab is intended as an expression of modesty and fidelity to their faith.
School Revolution - a protest poem about School System. School always praised students with high scores in academic only. For VOB, in School should not act like robots, students unable to speak up or freely to express opinion... always ask to shut mouth off without valid reasons. They convert all the protest in Lyrics and music. About the head cover or hijab, Marsha (vocalist / guitarist) said Music is universal and freedom, they had freedom to wear what they like, and freedom to believe what they want to, nothing to do with music. Everybody have right to play music. No specific rules to stop playing music no matter about appearance or religion. She would be happy for people just focus on their music. Don't judge us now... She said in her Lyrics.

The head covering is a Muslim thing, not necessarily Indonesian. It's also the reason they are having a hard time playing their music.

Baceprot comes from Sundanese which means noisy or likes to make noise. They named it because when they were in Islamic high school they were often punished because they were often noisy in class by singing and hitting the table. 😄
Rebel songs like ratm, change fills like soad (band influece's)
, rocks like metalica (guitar sounds influence) ,heavy metal like slipnot (drummers influence), hiphop style like linking park ( vocals influence), and funk style like rhcp (bassists influence)
And they mixed that all to make their music

hi smokeout i like your reaction, they're the moslem women cause they wearing that's name hijab or cover their hair, only family members or their husband can look their hair, the lead vocal is marsya she like hip hop style genre of her singing, the bassist is widi (we - d) she like funky of her genre style music and the drummer is siti (city) she like metal rock music genre, school revolution they write when they're still in high school cause their protest to they teachers if their teachers making something faults, the teachers don't have punishment to their teachers, different with the students if making faults, ba - ce - prot it's mean noisy in sundanese languange, cause they sundanese people's, sundanese is including one of so many tribe in indonesia...

VOB was born from strict Islamic school (Madrasah) students in Garut - West Java Indonesia, that's why they wear their hijab. This is to show their existence that Muslim women can still play metal music with their headscarves. Not all girls in Indonesia wear the hijab.

as i know from the interview that they did, this song is about their experience about what happened where they was in school about teacher and other student that may sometimes "judging" another students that can't follow the lesson that teacher give. and the curiculum of school that force student to learn something that mostly useless in daily life rather than directing and teaching student regards to what the student good at such an art, music or whatever that is.
as indonesian people, i inform you that the hijab (head cover for woman) is not required by the government, but it is an obligatory in their religion as a muslim women. but in every interview they have been asked about the hijab, but they always respond that they're happy to use it and they're will be always use it to breaking stereotype and views that as a devout muslim women they can do play rock or metal music so people won't easily judge a book by the cover...
