- How this beautiful beach got destroyed! Few times a year you have a chance to ride this amazing river wave located on the north shore of Oahu at a place called Waimea bay!
- Спорт
It's done to prevent flooding after major rain events. The beach is not being destroyed.
mate, it's completely natural
it's not done, . .
"it happens"
Source?
Yes!! This been happening for decades!! Everyone looks forward to this while decreasing the water level of the rice which way back then it’s river was open to the ocean but after years the surf closes the river opening and accumulated water from the mountains! This been going on for over 50 years
You blind a sunthin
Huh
It's a sand bar not a beach and they breach it regularly every year to prevent flooding upstream.
Guys I think Jamie o Brian pro surfer who lives on Oahu for years knows this. He’s probs just saying it for the short.
@@cthrough1162 hahaha thanks for saying this I didn't look at the uploader and thought it was a Karen
Do you know what a beach is lol its exactly what you just described a large body of water next to a "sand bar" or large body of sand is a beach doesn't need waves or need to be by the ocean. May be done by one place to prevent flooding but it's destroyed and forever changed my beaches here in cali from teens doing this.(and I don't think we get enough rain to even have flooding here?)
No
@@RecKOner21 lol u are so wrong
Used to do this with my friend as a little kid. The lifeguards let us borrow the shovels and everything. Growing up in Hawaii was the shit honestly

Who says the beach is destroyed? That is absolutely ridiculous.
Waimea Bay River on Oahu, people have been doing this for years. If it gets really flooded the river waves and current are crazy
Both places I’ve been to. This is great for both people and the environment.
Shoot really!!! I never knew that, Waimea is pretty crazy too in general, had the pipeline over here this year!!
@@GiblerHermosa depending on the weather it can sweet. I don’t surf or anything. But if you do try to go when the tide is high.
Thanks for explaining I've always wondered what was happening in these vids
Lol this is waimea bay... didn't recognize it at first...I had so much fun there as a kid.
Hahaha, beach is fine. They do this several times a year.
Their joking lol that’s JOB a legendary surfer and river wave creator
Ummm no it's not. That shit don't get replaced.
@@dont-touch-mepg1392 yes it does💀 stop assuming their professionals. This is completely fine pal
@@dont-touch-mepg1392 bruh the high tide washes the sand back up and creates another sand bank
@@dont-touch-mepg1392 🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️ what a muppet..
Ive seen other videos on this. It happens naturally but for that to occur it floods property inland. So the residents help it by doing this and preemptively stop any flood damage. The beach heals itself and the process continues.
Nothing natural about this
@wattlife8248 No but the amount of water that needs to accumulate inland would cause significant flooding g and property damage. So yes this isn't natural but would happen with or without human intervention.
@@TheRealWattLifeWhat they are saying is "if it's allowed to naturally happen, houses and properties will be destroyed".
@@my11badkids78 they’re gonna make the beaches brown again💀
it doesn't it erodes more
the beach is completely back to normal within a handful of days. Someone does not know how the ocean works .
These days we are blessed that some ppl know how 2 + 2 = 4 works.
Michigan man charged in Sleeping Bear Dunes river tampering

Ya, even if the beach was destroyed they were only expediting a natural phenomenon. Sooner or later, and probably sooner, that water would’ve made its way to the ocean on its own. But when people do they can control when and where it happens and prevent water from building up upstream and causing flooding further inland.
yea you dont it erodes more

@@mech0p ..the waves create dunes that block the water flowing down from the canyon. They do this a few times a year to prevent flooding...;) This is "fixing" it.
@@mech0ptheres no “fixing” it lmao. This is a sandbar, and if it didnt breach the river would flood multiple towns. It shrinks over time and eventually must be rebreached, but ive never seen this current from river to ocean not be here before
Love the fact that you just need to get it started and it'll do the main work for you
Was just at Waimea yesterday... beach was still there.
I lived north shore few years before getting priced out one too many times. in Aiea stuck at home with sick keiki... watching random videos from all over the world realized I miss living up there. hope I figure out how to get home soon.
I live in Hawaii and we have a major problem with erosion and beaches on North shore .
nah fam, breaking news, waimea bay no longer exists. Neither does oahu

I used drive by there every week. People dig it out AND the river does it naturally all the time.
imagine walking down the beach then finding a river in your way that wasnt there before getting back along the same beach
It takes hours most of the time.
River breaches are part of the world water cycle. It would have happened naturally anyway. Zero harm was done here.
A few hundred fish would have died. Most adapt. Like you said it would have happened anyway

Why do so many people who upload videos know nothing of what they say.
They do know what’s happening. Vid titles are made up to generate interest and views. The worst ones are the game streamers who hold full scripted convos with other “random” gamers
That’s literally the entire internet bud
It’s rage bait.
This is needed to sustain the ecosystem upstream. Large pools and lakes near the ocean cause flooding up the rivers and streams, so this process is almost like a pressure release for a dam. It keeps everything in check. The beach will be back to normal in a few days or a week. Once the water drains, the sand will reform into a beach line and the process will repeat every year.
"this beautiful beach is destroyed"
The beach: looking even better then it already did
Lol rivers move, sand moves. My home beach never looks the same week to week. Love watching the groms dig out and make it happen!

WOW. Learn something new everyday. I had no idea that could happen.
Say "now this beach is destroyed" as if a controlled breach is worse then an unexpected one that catches ppl unaware and that could cause hurt or worse.
Plus, nature has been destroying( and creating) beaches for millions of years, so there is that.
Waimea bay... ay that water got Lepto in there. Hope you no get kakio from that.
You wearing a mask outside? lol
The dunes in most places are typically heavily monitored and engineered to the best of our ability to tame nature, to prevent water erosion from destroying an entire beach. This sublet is literally in place to gather and be released instead of constantly adding driftto the dune. Forgive me I forget the name for the math involved something to do with plants being strategically placed to grow these alcoves and prevent the over angling of a beach or it's erosion.
This is not destroying the beach. Its opening the waterway for an existing creek/river to prevent flooding & allow fish like salmon and steelhead to migrate upstream to spawn in fresh water. These people just enjoying the process hopefully they will be safe about it as they enjoy the day and not leave a garbage mess behind when they are finished.
sand grows back like plants. its good. not destroyed.

Theyre too scared to go out and catch some REAL WAVES.

The residents of Carmel-By -The -Sea in Monterey, CA used to dig from the beach to the Carmel River to encourage salmon spawning.

This is temporarily destroying the beach, but it actually keeps the beach there longer in the long run. Plus it’s just flat out fun to surf and or boogie board.

It's flood water. They have to do this, and it doesn't hurt the beach.
OK Karen
It will be a beach again tomorrow morning relax

Why would you do this. Is it, just for fun or is there a responsible reason for diverting an entire river system in to the ocean.
It’s done to prevent flooding. When the rivers are overflowing they usually drain them into the ocean and the surfers use it for enjoyment as well.
There an actual reason behind it. And doesn't destroy beaches it actually does the opposite. It prevents destruction. Places where this is done is done on a regular basis. So tell me if the beach was destroyed how does the sand return? We use to do this in Maryland in calvary County where I used to live. There are houses that live one these lakes so when it floods either the houses are destroyed or the entire beach get washed away so to prevent either of these thing happening you drain the lake via a little trench in the sand. In doing so is lowers the water level and only washes a section of the beach away instead of the whole beach. The the next storm thatvrollsvthruborvwhenn the tide is strong the sand that was washed away get pushed back to the beach thus repeating the process over again. And who says u can have a Lil fun in the process. I've seen lots of communities try putting concrete sewer tunnels from the lake to the ocean but that never works because it get filled and clogged up with sand and it's alot more expensive and time consuming to clean out a tunnel every time it rains than it is to just make a trench with a 5 dollar shovel. Doing this stops land erosion, house flooding, washing out entire beaches and in some cases damaging reefs
dude, ffs
it's natural
it happens to many many rivers

@@petestronach4949 dude ffs, all I did was ask a simple question in a very reasonable way. So I could learn. Ffs, I literally ask if it was done for fun or for a reasonable reason. Tell me whats wrong with the tone or syntax of my question.

Anybody else see an Avenger go flying across the screen?
Waimea Beach was greatly changed about 100 years ago when businessmen took the sand from this beach and transported it to Leeward O’ahu to create the man-made Waikiki Beach.
New fishing spot unlocked
It's a perfectly natural occurrence. All they did was make it happen sooner and prevent some property damage.
It's where a little river is trying to flow into the sea, but the waves pile up sand in the mouth of the river, blocking it. The river water backs up in a pool, flooding the property around, until it goes over the sand. Once water starts to flow, it erodes the sand away, and the pool empties. When the flow stops, the waves put the sand back, and the water in the river floods again.
It happens all by itself.
All the people did was start the water flowing sooner than it would have done by itself. They didn't destroy a beach, they didn't waste water, they didn't cause a flood. They actually prevented flood damage where the river backs up.
