    When my twins were newborns and I was getting a handle on breastfeeding (they were 4 days old), my grandmother-in-law kept telling me to drink a beer an hour before breastfeeding as that would let my milk down. That suggestion made me understand why 2 of her 5 children were probably alcoholics. Then she told me that I should put them outside in the stroller, even in the winter, for at least an hour a day, by themselves on my porch or in my backyard. This way they got fresh air and they would learn to be on their own making sure they became self-reliant. This one just blew my mind and I told her, "Hell no! Do you want someone to kidnap them, or have them freeze to death?!" We lived in Boston where the average winter temperature is 22° Fahrenheit! She told me I was being ridiculous and my kids would grow up to have no self-confidence and have bad lungs. I reminded her it was the year 2000 and not 1920!

    • @scragar
      @scragar 3 месяца назад +10

      That babies need fresh air idea was popular in the 1920s and 1930s, it's also a time when baby cages were a big thing(a metal meshed box you attach to the outside of the window so the baby is outside but can't fall, then you open the window to bring the baby in or similar.
      If you look further back in history in 1902 there was a pattent for a baby collar similar to a dogs to chain it to a post. There were some really messed up ideas in the past.

      I wonder if your mother was Scandinavian? They often bundle the babies up and put them outside in the cold to nap during the day.
      And as weird as it sounds one of my doctors recommended a small 8oz beer to help my milk come in better. Just every so often not all the time. They also recommend blanched and cooled cabbage leaves for breast compresses when they got sore. Along with lanolin nipple cream.
      It was advice often given way back in the 60s/70s lol. At least they no longer promote smoking as a pregnancy stress relief 😅 you should look some of the quackery up. It's fascinating reading.

    • @lesliehyde
      @lesliehyde 3 месяца назад +4

      I watched a few videos from a content creator from Svalvbard and she's spent some time with her friend's family who had an infant and recently moved to another Scandinavian country and one of the things that was normal for them was to bundle up the baby and cover the stroller with a blanket for the infant's nap time which is apparently a normal thing to do. Of course, the parents would check on the infant to make sure that the baby wasn't too cold.

    • @harmia1278
      @harmia1278 3 месяца назад +7

      Yeah, a Finn here, here it is normal to put babies to sleep in a stroller outside, almost at any temperature (-20c and colder might be too much but I don't have children, just niece and three nephews). But in the city, it's done in balconies, not outside of the building 😂. Normal house? Just put them outside, under a window to keep an eye out on them and with a baby monitor to see when they wake. And like every body said, bundle them up. Lots of clothes, and winter overalls and sleeping bag. I know it sounds odd but it's kind of tradition already 😅

    • @troy028

      @@troy028 This is true, but if the father is trying to encourage it it is parental alienation. That is grounds for the mother (in this case, but the father would have the same if the mother was doing it) to get full custody, at least in my state. Parental alienation does not cover what the child decides without a parent trying to encourage it.

      When I was a kid, we had a house next door to our farm that a family moved into and did an illegal hookup to get electricity. I informed the meter reader when he came around and the electric company disconnected their copper strips and sealed the meter. That same night they had lights in the house. I reported it and the electric company came back out with the sheriff's deputies and had them arrested. They also completely removed the transformer and the wires from the transformer to the house. Before those guys got out of jail, the house was completely emptied and boarded up. I heard later that those idiots were trying to find their furniture and two cars as well as a few engines and transmissions that they had. No one knew anything about it except for a few parts that were returned to a salvage yard that had been paid with a rubber check. Nobody knew where those guys came from or where they went. But there were warrants issued for failure to appear in court over the stealing electricity and trespassing because they were squatting in that house for a couple of months.

    If MiL can't (or won't) abide by the C&D, then I'd get a Restraining Order (No Contact & Stay A Minimum Of 100 Yards Away From Me, Husband and Daughter At All Times) against her...maybe that will open her eyes to the complete absurdity and Illegality of what these Facebook Idiots are suggesting...if not, well, then she can live with never again seeing her Grandchild...

      a restraining order is sure necessary there, cause if that MIL happens to be against vaccines for that stupid reason, then she should be staying away from op's kid.

    Story 2- it’s not correct that children end up happier from a single parent household (unless it’s the father). Studies have shown kids who grow up in a 2 parent household do way better and staying with a father versus a mother is better for the child as well but that don’t change family court.
    Also, you see the fear fathers have of mothers running go with their kids, that’s if they are even told they have a child….

    First story: Unfortunately, in my line of work, I see a lot of elderly people fall down these rabbit holes. They discovered online groups that tell them that they are right and build them up on these false beliefs and these elderly people are so lonely that they believe them because now they have "friends. " And mental illness only the situation worse. I have had to explain many times that not everything on the internet is true and have to give them basic internet safety tips.

    Why in earth would mil be allowed to be alone with the baby even once after pure neglect? What is wrong with those parents?

    Honestly what did that mother in law expect. You kidnapped a baby and assaulted police officer yeah jail for you. Lesson here is be careful who you trust. Some people will do anything to get their way.

    Story 1: after the incident where she put the child outside then proceeded to fall asleep on the couch would be the last time that woman would EVER be alone with my child EVER AGAIN, it wouldn’t matter if she immediately left those groups & started acting like her pre-Facebook self again, the damage had already been done & she lost her right to be with my child unsupervised again not to mention I’d be reporting her to the proper authorities

    So first story. By the insane harrasment of phonecalls and such, it would have been down to me telling my wife, "Deal with your mother's insanity before I do." Given her response would have been "Shes my mother, I will deal with her." (As it was, in a few situations early on with our kids.) She would have (and actually did) drop the ultimatum "you do things our way, or you will not be seeing them until they are much older." Fortunately in our case it worked rather quickly.

    last one, i dont think the "false police report" will realy go anywhere there because it could defenitly be argued that something illigal was done or that it was a reasonable reason for the subleser to feel that something was illigal there.

    No, no the Ex doesn't need to be in your or especially your child's life if the Ex is a danger to them, either directly or indirectly by allowing contact with someone who is like the MiL.
    I personally know of at least one case where the kid would be tons better off without one of their parents because said parent is a neglectful borderline abusive piece of crap.

    I've been on Facebook for more than a decade. But I take some of these photos with a grain of salt. I also only belong to a few groups, like a humor group, etc., Putting a baby outside ALONE while you sleep!!!! NO more baby sitting for MIL I would say - but no, they let her do it again. She left the baby in the bath ALONE. Babies can drown that way. MIL going to prison - hopefully they give her a mental exam as well.

    second one i can defenitly belive it is a true story. there is 100% true cases where the person with just rights for weekens or even if 50 50 rates flees with the child/childdren to another country. luckily op was able to catch this case in time and the mil and the ex husband might be facing some serious criminal charges for the attempt to, but it would depend on the extent of evidence the police can find during the investigation.

    I don't like this KP guy already. You know when you are trying to scam fast food people that you are HURTING the workers with stress and later blame if they do give away free food by accident. "He was wealthy, but it never made any differences" Yes, it does. All those little things that make him LAUGH makes poor people's lives a little shorter and gives them stomach ulcers. I hate selfish people like that.

    Parking Violation Story: Ummm when this Bugger was snooping at OP's home and going through his Physical Mail, why didn't OP report him to the Police (for the Trespassing) and the UK Postal Inspector (for the Mail Tampering) and how exactly did he have access to OP's Company Email Account?
    If I was OP, I'd have reported him to the Authorities for his Stalking me/Snooping around my flat and Stealing/Tampering with my Mail and to our Manager and HR for reading my Email...
    If it didn't stop, then I'd escalate the Criminal Complaints (even in the UK, snooping through someone else's Mail is a Federal Offense) for the Mail, Stalking and Trespassing and call a Lawyer to send a Deal with him or get Sued Nastygram to our Manager and HR...if that didn't work, then I'd Sue him, our manager and HR for Creating a Toxic Work Environment and Workplace Harassment (or whatever the UK equivalent's are)...I wouldn't let it go on as long as it did because if he had such a Nasty Temper/Anger Control Issues, how long would it be before he lost it and physically Assaulted me instead of the Guard?
