Endless Nameless was originally a hidden song, it started 10 minutes from the end of Something in the Way
Yeah so its the proper ending to the album
Yeah it was sweet
Yeah that's why i never really count it as an actual song. Nevermind feels better ended with something in the way
Kurt also smashed his guitar in the studio while recording.
@@ellie_olivia. nah that arpeggio riff, mama part is one of the best riffs ever
Since you gave Polly a MID and didn’t understand the song, I’m gonna explain for you. Polly’s easily the darkest song on this album. I’m gonna explain the story of this song. It’s pretty long, and scary.
Polly is a song about the kidnapping of a girl in 1987, written from the perspective of the kidnapper. So some backstory. In 1987, there was this 14 year old girl who’s name wasn’t found yet, go to a rock concert. She didn’t find a way home though. So the kidnapper named Gerald Arthur Friend,(ironic last name I know) threatened her at knifepoint to go with her. Gerald took the girl to her house and repeatedly raped and tortured her. Like in the most inhumane ways possible. Burning her with a blowtorch for example. The lyrics give description of that with a play on the phrase “Polly wants a cracker.” Lyrics like “I think she wants some water, to put out the blowtorch.” Demonstrate the terrible things that happened to this girl. In the perspective of the rapist. “Let me clip dirty wings” This means Gerald also cut some parts of her body. Horrible.
Now you might be asking, did the girl escape? Fortunately, yes she did. When she was in a car when Gerald was taking her for a ride, she was able to escape the car, and her friends came over to save her. Truly upsetting stuff. It’s easily one of the darkest songs I’ve ever heard and that’s why I’d give it a Diamond.
EDIT: also yes the kidnapper was sent to prison for 150 years. Honestly I think he should’ve been killed in the most inhumane ways ever like being set on fire. Like the victim.
Mad facts
Thanks for this, awful information but it makes me understand the song a lot more.
This song wasn't my favorite listening to as a teen until I found out the story a little later in life.
Not how justice works
@@Heisenberg882 Well from the research I did on this song that’s what I heard
Polly is based on a true story about a kidnapped girl who was raped and tortured with a blow torch, but it’s from the perspective of the kidnappner Definitely one of their deepest songs
You gotta understand the context of this coming out in 1991. It’s rock but it was a completely new sound. This album effectively ended 80s cheese and opened the door for 90s music.
The alternative era of the 90s was a time where rock bands could enter the mainstream and still be experimental, weird and real, and Nevermind opened the door for all of it. It’s the line between classic and modern rock.
Also - for you kids - Endless Nameless was the secret song at the very end of the CD after minutes of it playing silence. Talk about crazy back then. Also - Kurdt is actively smashing his guitar while plugged in - that's what you're hearing. Peace Love Empathy
You have to understand, that slow songs are an essential part of an album so the listener can catch a break between all the hard-hitting songs. Songs like Polly, Lithium, and Something in the Way are some of my favorite Nirvana songs ever. Try to understand the lyrics and the meaning behind them so that you will not underestimate their impact on the discography.
I'm doing ALOT better now when it comes to actually listening to lyrics :)
its all about learning from past mistakes and growing and thats what im doing
btw Kurt never said he hated Something In The Way, he actually hated Smells Like Teen Spirit
I could of stg I saw a clip of him saying he hated playing SITW lol
@@KnightReacts He probably hated playing it since it’s so depressing
Kurt hated how popular it was and he didn't like to perform it all the time. He once purposefully screws up the lyrics to that song to show his distaste for it.
bro is the embodiment of what in bloom represents
How I’d rate this album:
1: Smells Like Teen Spirit: D 10/10
2: In Bloom: D 9.8/10
3:Come As You Are: D 10/10
4: Breed: D 9.3/10
5: Lithium: D 10/10
6: Polly: D 9.2/10
7; Territorial Pissings: W 8.4/10
8: Drain You: W 8.3/10
9: Lounge Act: D 9.2/10
10: Stay Away: W 8.2/10
11: On A Plain: D 9/10
12: Something In The Way: D 10/10
Overall Rating: 9.3/10
What can I say this albums a classic.
Where’s Endless Nameless ?
@@Free_Bobux-1988 Bonus track. But I’d give it a W
bro how is it possible that polly is at the same height as lounge act
lounge is very underrated
Territorial pissings is a bit higher
Honestly the whole album is D for me just the style in general (except) lithium
Lounge act is my favorite Nirvana song of all time. But the whole album is amazing to.
1993 I saw Nirvana live in concert. Best concert ever.
Something In The Way is absolutely not boring, but certainly is depressing
U in bloom bro
Polly and Something in the way are the ends to each side. I know this has been lost due to the media, but that was the intended journey.
I really don't listen to this music, but I remember being about 8 years old or something, and some one gave me this tape, this album is incredible!!!!! Teen spirit isn't over rated bro.
Yes it totally is. It overshadows every other song they’ve ever played
@@thegravewalker7645 I have no rebuttal. Lol
@@THE219GHOST I used to listen to this all the time until I actually listened to the rest of the album.
Great album, I would still say In Utero is my favorite.
I loveeee something in the way. It feels very personal and lyrically he’s somewhere that caused him a of sadness and he takes us on that journey with him.
He was homeless for a period of his life apparently which is why he says “living off of grass”
“Animals ive trapped have all become my pets”
Didn’t you say you would change In Bloom & Breed to a Diamond? Why aren’t they Diamond?
I loved that video, always nice to see full album reactions, but you really have should checked out the meaning of polly.
God Polly is such a sad song.
Great video!!! Please do In Utero 🙏🙏🙏 that album is full of bangers!!
100% will
Fun Fact: Kurt’s favorite song he sang for this album wasn’t Smells like teen spirit, It was Actually Drain You.
Krist was horribly underrated
The Strokes is a must album marthon. I PROMISE you that you will not regret it
You never mention his knack for melody that everyone calls "Beatle-esque".
Lounge act is my favorite off nevermind.
You should listen to everywhere at the end of time by the caretaaker
btw polly is about a girl who gets abducted and raped in 1987 after going to a punk concert go back and listen to the lyrics again
Bros talking about the lyrics being deep but it’s nothing compared to in utero 😭
Agreed
Something in the Way was the last song on the album, if you have ever listened to vinyl, that's what most artists do, play it out on a melancholy low. That's why Polly ended side one, so you are ready for side two. Endless, Nameless was never part of Nevermind, it's an add on for the CD, probably to make more people buy it. Remember that baby chasing a dollar on the front cover?
fucking lair but okay it was on the original record just 10 minutes after Something On The Way. they never had to chase money it came to them. stop spreading misinformation wtf
endless nameless was the secret track that played 10 minutes after something in the way. they improvised the whole thing out of rage because they couldn't perfectly nail "lithium". the guitarist smashed his guitar and broke all of his strings while playing.
@Paul_Bond…like the last commenter said. Endless Nameless just happened n the studio. When Nevermind came out. The 1st 50k copies had”Endless Nameless”. But in re-pressings due to popular demand (yup, they unseated Micheal Jackson from the #1 Billboard spot.) it was left out. And some people returned it bc it didn’t have a that track….so its the total opposite of what you suggested. Its also a throw back to a prank Kurt used to do with an old roommate. Where they’d be asleep Kurt would tape voices at the end a Cassette and play it. 30 min later after 30 min of silence. The voices that Kurt had recorded would sound…and his friend would freak out and wake up….lol. So Endless Nameless started a trend (trending is all Nirvana did once Never mind was released) in rock albums at Time. Where bands would have secrets songs at the end of their albums…lol
Fantastic record! Agree with some, disagree with others. It’s all subjective but I’ll give it a go:
SLTS -D
In Bloom -D
Lithium -D
Lounge Act -High W
Breed -High W
CAYA -High W
Drain You -W
Territorial Pissings -W
On a Plain -W
Stay Away -Low W
Something in the Way -Low W
Polly - Low W
Endless Nameless -High M
Lithium is the best song of Nirvana… all time
Heart Shaped Box be like “HEY! WAIT!”
They named a Sirius channel after Lithium. Shouldn’t be a mid
It grew on me a lot since :)
@@KnightReacts It’s my second favorite off the album. High Diamond for me
You gotta have energetic high notes and slow emotional ballads to balance things out.
Territorial pissings sounds like Green Day’s bang bang
You seem to like the noisier stuff...you'll love In Utero.
Definitely react to in utero. By many considered to be the best and definitive Nirvana album. Also the bands proudest work.
my parents would’ve beat me if it took 30 years to listen to never mind and i was born in 2002😂
my dad was more of a Paramore, Linkin Park, and Three Days Grace Fan :)
@@KnightReacts I also heard from you that your mom hates AJR so safe to say your parents have great taste.
@@rayanthepretentiousnerd she likes Ed Sherren though RIP 😔
@@KnightReacts Oh goddangit! Well at least your Dad has good taste. Wait a sec doesn’t he like Rise Uo by Imagine Dragons? You’ve gotta be kidding me
@@rayanthepretentiousnerd he likes NF too 🥲
i can tell u like hardcore lol not mellow
cant believe you called something in the way boring, had liked the video then i disliked u got bad taste
I love the song lol
I just think because of how much energy the album brings that the song bring the entire flow of the album to a stop because of the slowness
@@KnightReacts That's what it's for, it's the last song lol other than the hidden track 20 minutes after
@@KnightReacts tbf it's the literal closer to the album lmfao
DUDE😮
Can you listen to freaking out the neighborhood by Mac demarco?
Wow your reviews got a lot better
Thank you
@@KnightReacts you’re welcome
Yooo listen to Siamese Dream next by The Smashing Pumpkins
In utero please
if you like the hevier stuff you should check out bleach its rlly got the punk grunge feel to it
Listen to Polly again, dude
I have come to the conclusion… it is amazing
My favourite is lithium
That awesome :D
@@KnightReacts Mine is Polly. But idk I haven’t listened to the full album
@@KnightReactsNow it’s Something In The Way and Lithium. What would you rate Lithium now?
Be true to yourself, give a mid where you feel it belongs, even if its a huge historical album, your taste is your own, any good experienced metal fan should know all too well, that their shit aint the mainstream cookie cutter music that their parents would approve of..
We know its not everyone's thing and that's ok :D
So you be you, fu*k anyone else ;3
Respectfully, you don’t understand a thing
What’s there not to understand?
@@KnightReacts He’s talking about Polly.
Pollys more about the story it’s telling rather than the music
How would u know something in the way is his most overhyped song when u havent even heard most of Nirvanas songs
Bro your grading system aint it but still sick video
it really is lol
its a easier and more accurate way to score the album instead of giving a random score at the end.
plus it sets my channel apart from how other channels rate album :D
@@KnightReacts Like I said, you should take D by 1 point and W by 1 point and E to 15 points so it’s hard to get a 10/10. My philosophy is that an album should have at least 2/3 10/10 songs on the album and the rest be almost 10/10 for an album to be a 10/10. It really has potential, i feel like it just needs some reworks and it would be perfect.
@@rayanthepretentiousnerd valid honestly
@@KnightReacts Let’s use that for the Radiohead marathon
U the person on in bloom his referring too
When a Zoomer tries to understand Nirvana...
brad taste in music copy ngl
He’s actually commented on my videos before so nice try lmao
@@KnightReacts what are you talking about? Why does that matter you still copy him
@@willsster explain how I’m copying him?
@@KnightReacts the whole rating system with the diamond instead of his smile ball and how you talk is so much like him.
My rating system is completely different 💀
He only has “Smily Ball, Shrug, and Red headphones”
And they have no system to them
While I got “Emerald, Diamond, W, Mid, L, and Dumpsterfire” which all give it a set amount of points so I can accurately rate the album 💀
And bruh I’ve been talking like this since I made Gaming videos from 2016.
Stop acting like just cause someone makes a reaction video means they are copying brad
I think you are a baised reactor. If it is slow its boring and not good. If it is upbeat and fast you like it and it is good/hype. Not a good way to judge music.
Weird assumption since some of my favorite songs are slow and hell some are even over 10mins long lol
