Wow! You posted the newer version of the video today, just as I was looking into how to set up a new tank! What are the odds? I really like this version a lot more. Much more descriptive, and now I know what else to buy. Thanks for the advice!
Awesome! Thank you for the comment. I'm glad you liked the video! I do have links in the description for those extra things, in case you wanna check em out.😉
Wow! Amazing how long turtles can live. Great job caring for her so long. What a nice gift to her. :) Glad my video helped you out. Thanks for commenting!
Thank you for both videos, very helpful! I noticed in the first video, you had put the air pressure control valve first closest to the pump, then the check valve, then connected everything to the air stone but in the second video you connected the check valve first closest to the pump, then the air pressure control valve and connected everything to the air stone. My question is, does it matter what you connect first "check valve" or "Air Control Valve"?
Oh yah sorry about that. But no, it doesn't matter where you place the air control valve. You can place it before or after the check valve. Unless of course you are using a Tee Connector.
@@AnimalLoverChanL It does! Lmao, I JUST picked mine up and noticed that it does come with it. Was already doing searches online. Thanks for the vid and quick reply!
One air wand that fits a 5 gallon should be enough to aerate a 5 gallon for a few fish. If there is just one fish, then an air wand or an air stone will be fine. If you want to use air stones only and have 2 or 3 fish in your 5 gal., then a couple air stones, with the air control valve completey open, will suffice. *Extra Info-* I don't think there is a limit to the amount of air stones in a tank when it comes to the size of your tank. But it's really about how many air stones your air pump will power and how big the air stones vs the air pump are. I know that a 10 gallon air pump is powerful enough for either several small air stones with a small spondge filter or a small sponge filter with a 12'' air wand. But any larger air stones and wands and sponge filters may require a larger air pump. If you have a lot of fish in a fish tank, you would need more air going in to accommodate each fish's air needs. Air enters water from the air stone bubbles breaking at the surface of the water. The more breakage at the water surface, the more oxygen enters the water for the fish to breathe. It's also good to keep in mind that warm water holds less oxygen than cold water. So if you had to crank up the heater, let's say, to get rid of ick, if you ever got it, you would need to add more air stones to cover breaking more water surface so that there will still be enough air for the fish in such warm water.
Hi! So not all of those porous air stones are going to work right away because they may need time to soak in the aquarium water before bubbles really start coming out. So all you need to do is setup that air wand in the aquarium and just keep your air pump on and over time the air wand should get better with letting bubbles out of it. With your sized air wand, a 10 gallon air pump should be strong enough. Also make sure to keep the air control valve open enough for the maximum amount of air force to get through to the air wand.
If you think that water will never drip down along the cord and into the outlet, then putting your air pump anywhere should be fine. Still try to make a drip loop though if your air pump is above an outlet. Make sure you have a check valve installed in the airline tubing to prevent water from back-siphoning up the inside of the airline tube and into the air pump. Back-siphoning happens when you cut the power to your air pump. I have my air pump on the floor and have had no issues. Most of my air pumps power cord and airline tube are both lying on the floor. So if any water did somehow drip down along the airline tubing from the tank, the water would get to the floor before, impossibly in my case, getting to my outlet. I suppose the risk of water getting onto an air pumps power cord is higher when the tank and the air pump are both on one side of the outlet. Unless it is all set up like in the instructions picture. Unlike the instructions picture, I have my fish tank on the left of the outlet and my air pump on the right of the outlets location. So it is only the airline tubing that is crossing in front of the outlet. And the airline tubing isn't even touching the outlet or touching any other cords that are attached to the outlet. So it's pretty much all about making sure to keep water from possibly getting to your outlet in any way. As well as keeping water from getting into the air pump.
The bubbles it makes breaks the surface of the water which allows oxygen to enter the water for the fish to breath. If you had only a couple fish, then the filter may be enough to provide oxygen. But if you had a bunch of fish in one tank then you would need to provide more oxygen with an air pump. Also, warm water holds less oxygen than cold water. So it's especially important to be providing enough oxygen for tropical fish. Fish with lungs like betta fish are able to gulp oxygen at the surface of the water and so they don't really require extra oxygen. But they would still appreciate it because they do still have gills and It is also good to have something in a bettas tank to break the surface of the water so that the surface doesn't get a biofilm. Now if your filter quit working, an air pump could be a good oxygen backup. And if you ever needed to have your fish in something small and temporary, like maybe a quarantine tank, you could use an air pump to provide oxygen for that, instead of installing a filter that might take up too much room. an air pump is also adjustable so if your quarantined fish needs more or less current you can adjust that with an air pump. You can also use a Tee connector to have two airlines going into two fish tanks from that one air pump.
@brodyeikmeier9408 You're welcome. But in seriousness, I am sorry about whatever led you to feel that stealing wasn't seriously wrong. Stealing needs to feel wrong. Otherwise, you will get used to doing it, and then you will be more likely to get caught and into serious trouble. I don't mean to annoy you, but I care too much to not say this. Since stealing is a serious crime. No matter how small. And I am a convinced person that God is real and always watching. He is a merciful God, but also just, and will judge you if no one else will. Unless you believe and feel genuinely sorrowful over your sins and ask forgiveness, then it will be forgiven and forgotten by God. Because He loves you no matter what you do. That love towards you should be enough for you to never want to let God down by sinning. You get one chance at this life. I say don't mess it up when you can help it. You might not like me mentioning God, and if so, you might also have a lot of questions and doubts concerning God. I have had the same questions and doubts. So, just take my word for it when I say that God really is good. Because I have already been convinced. Seek the Lord Jesus, and you WILL find more than you can imagine and that you didn't even know you needed. I really am very serious and hope you will be too. I will help you find Jesus if you are willing.✌️
Hello, i just discovered your channel and subbed. I just got this and am new to the hobby. It states to put pump above tank but i want to put it under in cabinet. Is this for leaks? I put a check valve on it to prevent back syphoning but do i still need to have the pump high up? Thanks
👋HI. Awesome! Hope you have lots of fun with this hobby. As long as you have a check valve on, I'm sure it's fine to have it below the tank. I have actually always had my air pumps on the floor. And it's been fine.🙂

Thanks, I got a turtle back in 2003 and finally got her an air pump this week for her. They were always intimidating but you made it incredibly easy.

I can't find a recommended length for the hoses. If it matters. I'm going a little longer than needed.
Should I have more than one airline tube/wand/stone for a 5 gallon tank or is just one enough?

Do you have to have it set on a shelf above the tank like the directions showed or is it ok to set it beside the tank?

Can I connect this to my Baby Groot bubbler?
Yes. You can connect it to any smallish bubbler. If it is a big bubbler, then you may need a larger air pump. But go ahead and test it out. :)
what are the benifites of the air pump?
The bubbles it makes breaks the surface of the water which allows oxygen to enter the water for the fish to breath. If you had only a couple fish, then the filter may be enough to provide oxygen.
