Modern celebrities also live extremely superficial lives and are unable to make songs that truly connect to us. Plus, Music streaming services have also made it so it's much easier for people to find their personal music taste, but this also means that there's no longer a way for everyone to experience mainstream music anymore. All this leads to inspirational music never really getting out there because there just isn't enough people who want to listen.
I feel like only back then when everyone was tuned into the same 3 news channels and few record labels, no social media, could a man like this be a breakout hit. The bar to entry was really high because everything was centralized, but if you got past the bar, you were a hit. RIP John Larkin, what a gentle soul.
