I’m pretty convinced these days that either Disney is laundering money through these movies, or people are just flat out stealing money and that’s why the budgets are so bloated. I mean, it’s getting pretty ridiculous. Every movie and show spending like PowerBall money on EVERYTHING.

The series probably cost around 40m to make in actual fact, but then Disney would only get -at most- 10m back from the UK govt.
So instead what Disney did was spun off a bunch of shell companies to supply the production with materials, labour and creative and marketing services, then those arms length companies quadrupled the price of everything, so that Disney could fleece the UK government for 40m (i.e. the actual cost of the series). Congrats UK, you got pwn'd.

The way they destroyed this classic IP is criminal. It gained almost nothing by having the Willow IP attached, being yet another generic ideology-pushing piece of activism. They even relegated the titular character to a minor supporting role. I couldn't help but feel they treated the character of Willow in almost the exact same way they did Luke Skywalker. Luke, Han, Willow, Thor, Indiana Jones... am I not allowed to retain even one childhood hero, or do they plan to emasculate and/or kill off all of them?

Disney wrote off the majority of the Willow production costs filled with the IRS for 2022 - 2023, & by removing it completely from the Disney streaming platform completed a full tax write off process, it cost Disney virtually nothing to make Willow even following a limited streaming release.
Further more Disney use non preforming content on its streaming platform to file large tax write offs with the IRS, explains largely why lucas film are commissioned by Disney to continue turning out dreadful content, Lucas film are paid by Disney, while Disney write off the production costs as none preforming content deemed to have no commercial or resealable value…. Lucas film use UK tax incentives to reduce over all production costs by filming Willow in the UK.
This will continue as long as tax loophole remain intact by the IRS in the US , and tax incentives in the UK are kept in place to enable Disney and Lucas double write off overseas production cost , much like Disney and the BBC Coproduction of DR Who, & Lucas film with Willow and Live action Star Wars series and movies.

:D I can't help but wonder is this because everyone with a brain left the industry in past 20 years?
150 mil is like 100-140 episodes of knightrider.
you know whats the problem with the current producers who spend investors money? absolutely no concept of "making do with what you got".

It takes a lot and I mean a metric shyt ton a lot of editing and reshoots to make 110 lbs girls fighting full grown men look terrible at best. 40 takes on one sword swing is gotta cost a pretty penny for every fight scene.
Add on... Love the spin on dropping titles from D+ for a tax right off, when Disney dropped them they themselves said it was because they couldn't afford having all these shows on their servers. So they were to broke to even keep much less air the shows and IPs they paid billions for to fill D+ programming.

in the past having a smaller budget or at least a maximum amount, made studios work harder to make best with what they had
    same goes for videogames

Serious question- Why doesn't Disney just pay us all to watch old shows on Disney+ instead of wasting all this money on new content?

Don't they calculate inflation by saying it's roughly doubled every decade? Always seemed excessive to me.. it would mean the original Willow budget was roughly $250m by today's standards?🤔

For reference, $35 million in 1988 would be about $87 million in 2022. Also, multi-episode tv shows can quickly add up. So it being 50% more expensive is not really that unexpected viewed solely in a financial sense. The problems were really in how that money was spent and who/what ideology was being allowed to do it.
