Good little stand. Made the foot base a bit bigger, and the seat. Worked like a charm. Just shot a beauty 6 point in Southern Ontario. Made a climbing apparatus that also ratchets to the tree. Used a second ladder to fasten it to the tree. 1 man set up. I'm no lightweight at 240, and could sit up there for a few hours no worries. Good little stand. Thanks for posting
Hello, I really enjoyed your video. You wasted no time, you were very clear in step by step instructions, and I have to say you built a great product for very little money. These type of stands are excellent for putting on public land with less worry about theft. I too enjoy building things and I'm looking forward to making a few of these. Thank you again...
@nicholasclemmons8566 learn the regulations bud. What may be illegal in your state isn't necessarily illegal in all. But we all appreciate you showing the world the quality of your character. 😂
Made one today and your video had great but simple instructions. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to help those of us that don’t have excess money to spend. Mine turned out nicely and if it only lasts a couple of years its just what I needed. Thanks again.
I just made one of those and I hung it up in the tree it works really well great design I would suggest putting a lag bolt through there if you're a bigger guy
Let me start by saying it’s a great video very straightforward and to the point. I’m gonna make one of those using the 2 x 4 as the the back brace I’m also gonna build another using a 2 x 6 for bigger trees I might even go up to 2 x 8 and give that a try thanks a lot for the video.
just have to use BIG eye bolts to both top sides..lock washer & nut on the end.......leave a gap in the eye bolt so a chain can span the distance....throw chain around the back of a tree over a big, strong branch.....hook it to the open eye bolt....use a pad lock to lock it on so it won't slip off & also ppl can't steal it.....use a strong rachet strap for the bottom.....tight to the tree....build a ladder or use screw in steps to get in & out....i've made many stands like this....
Great job young man. I used to be a school teacher so I'm not going to give you the typical sort of generic RUclips feedback and instead give you some thoughts that I hope you can learn from and use to be better. First and foremost you approached this video from and instructor's point of view. you have some proven know-how on something that you have actually done. then, you took it a step further. you thought about your audience and how to present the information in a way that is easy to understand and is useable...without over exposition. You were to the point. that is diy gold right there. RUclips is saturated by very credible and informed people who focus on the medium so much that, tragically, they don't have the best presentation. yours is pretty straightforward. it's not super polished and fancy as if you have a production team behind you. that's okay. Also you have a steady cam, good lighting, good audio with great cadence and language/word choice. it's just easy to listen to and watch you show us how to make a deer stand. that is fantastic. thank you! You do your rents proud.
That was a good tutorial, they look very well built also. For the price of a welded steel stand of that size a guy could spend 70 dollars+.Think I will build my own from now on at the specs you have provided. Thanks, and good luck this year.
Nice design. If more people built their own they would drop the price tomorrow. Usually the neative comments are from those who have invested interests in selling you one of their manufactured ones. Thank you
i am going to try and build this. i hunt with a crossbow and am kind of tossed on the room id have in it. but will see how it all works out . nice video
Great video. It is sad there are so many haters on here commenting. Everyone should be using a fall arrest system so if there was any catastrophic failure of any stand you would be able to recover.
Was thinking about doing something like this so no one will steal my stand!! Just a old house ladder I'll use and paint it camo .. I've had so many stands stolen . Good job and thanx..oh and your moms gonna jill ya if paint gets on the house!!
This is a phenomenal video - thank you for sharing! I was wondering if at the 1:43 mark the one 17 1/2 inch is supposed to have one 45 or two 45s? Any help would be appreciated. I'm headed out to buy wood now and will be cutting in an hour or two - thank you!
+Robert Denninger Thank you! Sorry, I wish I would've checked my messages a couple days ago but I hope you figured it out, the 45 degree cut is only on one side of the 17 1/2in board!
I'd prefer not to trust myself doing that but nice wood work. And a tip is to not paint them because of the smell but the camo still looks awsome keep up the good work
Superbe vidéos 👍👍 Je viens de finir le miens, j'aimerai savoir le poids que les votre font. Le miens est assez lourd donc je vais voir de diminuer les sections de bois pour l'alléger un peu. Encore merci superbe vidéo 👍👍
Yes I use them all the time, my advice after use would be to make the seat a bit wider and stick out a little further so your more comfortable! You could even make the platform larger if you'd like. I weigh 150lbs and they are sturdy for me, more supports could be added if you feel it's necessary, try it on the base of a tree before you go up high!
you should really make a video on how to hang them. i love the idea and seems pretty safe if you attach it right but PLEASE show to to hang them would be much appreciated
A nice video that is very cleanly done. I prefer lighter weight metal climbers like the Tom Cat stands for their easy portability, but for an inexpensive strap-on stand this looks good, although I would put something metal with a grip surface on the parts that touch the tree. I like the notion of something having a higher coefficient of friction against the tree.
you can buy a hang on for 39 brand new with the strap included and it comes painted for the work you put into building in I already have mine hanging but I guess if your bored it works
I've hunted for years from different kinds of tree stands. Hang-ons, climbers, ladder stands and if I've learned anything, you got to make sure your equipment is safe and will hold up against the elements. My experience using wood ladder stands, they usually are only good and safe for a couple seasons of hunting, then they tend to start eroding away very fast! Even treated wood has it's limits on how well it does out in the elements.!
Cool idea but I would not trust the design to be strong enough to keep you safe. Maybe for a 90lb kid like you for short term. I would want beams underneath supporting the stand and a better vertical attach to the tree support using at the very least 6 inch lag bolts. I would prefer threaded rods that go through the tree. If you want a wood stand to be safe, short term and long term that is.
The thing that always bothers me about homebuilt wood stands is nobody uses a good exterior wood glue. Glue is much much stronger than screws, it's very inexpensive, and might save your bacon. Otherwise for a year or two use it's a good design, and I would trust a good lumber stand I built myself over a welded in china $50 hang on from Wal-Mart.
Just buy a quality lock on stand. They are very affordable, lighter, and will last 10 times longer. Although I appreciate the DIY desire, you don't scrimp on peanut butter or lock-on stands.
Decent build but stands are at dicks/field & stream for $40 all day long this time of year and they include a harness (and a padded seat) and are surely stronger. Gently hopping up on down on that front 2X4 I guarantee it will start to shear because it is relying on the strength of the wood's end grain--not compression, and it will just not take that much force. End grain of the wood has very little shear strength. Pretty small fasteners in there, too. Commend your ingenuity but I don't see it as a particularly safe stand and doesn't save that much money, either.
Hang on stands are only 40 bucks at Wal-Mart but next time I wanna die hunting I'll be sure to build this death trap you have here with a 6 inch wide seat I sit in my stand for hours and hours most the time I hunt from morning to after noon my ass couldn't take sitting on this that long
Wanting to DIY? Great idea. Making a lock on stand out of wood that hangs from a single strap? Hell no. Give it a few years of weather and it'll be done. Especially fasteners on the end grain of a board. Plus I'm not gonna kill myself hanging it.

It's against the law to hang a stand on public land stupid you can only bring the stand and take it out with you you can not leave it duhhh
You can leave stands in Missouri between certain dates.
@@nicholasclemmons8566 You should check your facts before calling someone stupid. Other than that....why so angry?
@@nicholasclemmons8566 not true. State and location dependent. Ridiculous comment. Do better.

What that cost? Not $25 lol
Great job! It's good to see young guys so interested in hunting.
Just finished a slightly improve version of it (bigger seat). Itested it with only 1 bender and it’s super solid. Thank you sir!
I did the same thing!
Worked great bud thanks! I even added a little cushion up top and a pvc coffee holder
very well made video. you have a knack for verbal and quality instructions and a bargin to boot
Thanks for the instructions, I followed it and got one done. All I need to do is find a place to hang it
Good job and thanks again
Glad i could help! Thanks
Awesome brother going to make one.
Right on
I just made one of those and I hung it up in the tree it works really well great design I would suggest putting a lag bolt through there if you're a bigger guy
Bro thanks a lot for putting the measurements, I'm definitely gonna build one.
You did a great job on the Video bubba!! And those are some nice tree stands!!
Dave S thank you!!
What a great idea I’m gonna have to try it
Im making one for next season, maybe a few small changes
Good tutorial and great stand I'm going to make one

Did you cut out the part when your dad slaps you upside the head for spray painting right next to his house? LOL JK great video.
why? it's just permanent seamless steel siding........
Bill Cenne that’s not fucking steel siding it’s plastic I have the same shit on my house
I was thinking the same thing
LOL! Me too!
Awesome video, on the construction of them. Do you have a video on how to attach it to the tree ?
Unfortunately not but i will make one soon!
DO IT!!! People could die lol
would like to see the tree attachment video also
did you get the hang on the tree instructions?

Good work. I made a couple years ago similar to this. I couldn't sit in one now if my life depended on it. Dont hurt your back.
Good job. Ill be making a couple of these. Thanks!
i cut it 6 times .. and its still too short ;)
ty dude.. most kids these dayz are recluce and glued to the cell phones
Great job. You have a future in public speaking . Just what I was looking for to hang up in my coniferous tree.
Dave Mitchell thanks dave!
awesome idea!!!!!
I agree - awesome. I can do it now. Just the video I was looking for to build a cheaper hang on.
Glad to help!
That looks fun to put on a tree with them weight.
Made one this winter. Just painted it and tested it out...

Thank you, glad to help! If I would recommend anything after using these many times, I'd say make the seat a few inches wider in each way!
+Ohioutdoor Addicts TV I was thinking a decent seat pad stapled in place would go a long ways on this thing
Great video and precise instructions. Going to build one for my next season. Just wondering about the finished weight and portability though?
Nice design. If more people built their own they would drop the price tomorrow. Usually the neative comments are from those who have invested interests in selling you one of their manufactured ones. Thank you

i am going to try and build this. i hunt with a crossbow and am kind of tossed on the room id have in it. but will see how it all works out . nice video

Great video. It is sad there are so many haters on here commenting. Everyone should be using a fall arrest system so if there was any catastrophic failure of any stand you would be able to recover.

Great instructions looks like fun to make and cost effective you will go far in life with your speaking talent s and ideas good luck. I subscribed
built one it works great! To solve the small seat problem I just used the original seat with a smoothed (sanded corners) out of a piece of plywood
Thanks for your input! Good idea, Maybe others will consider your idea as well.
Thanks great job I got about halfway through the video and realized I’m walking about 3 miles in to where I hunt
How much does it weigh?
This is a phenomenal video - thank you for sharing! I was wondering if at the 1:43 mark the one 17 1/2 inch is supposed to have one 45 or two 45s? Any help would be appreciated. I'm headed out to buy wood now and will be cutting in an hour or two - thank you!

I’m subscribed to your channel man this video this is definitely awesome 😎
Great but what do you use to hang them on the tree, and how do you attach the hanging mechanism to the stand?
Dad comes out:
"I'll shade your ass if you get that paint on my house"
Moves to yard..
I'd prefer not to trust myself doing that but nice wood work. And a tip is to not paint them because of the smell but the camo still looks awsome keep up the good work
Just leave them out for a few days for the paint to cure before you hang them, there should be no smell after that

nice vid. how do you attach and hang these stands? I'd like to at least see hardware used to hang them
+red dog I use 2 ratchet straps to hang them! thanks
Yo how do you put it in a tree
I would appreciate it if you would answer
Making one today thanks bud
Did You ever use them...really want to
make sure they are safe?

+Ohioutdoor Addicts TV Thanks, did you ever find out how much they weigh?
Man this is pretty cool 😎 but man it’s this safe? I mean I do really really like this idea man big time!!!!!!!! And definitely it’s cheaper !!!
Just out of curiosity, this stand being wood, does it hold up in the elements?
Yes!
you should really make a video on how to hang them. i love the idea and seems pretty safe if you attach it right but PLEASE show to to hang them would be much appreciated
+Jeremy Balbaugh I use 2 ratchet straps to attach them. You could also add a lag bolt to add security.

Hovey Smith thanks for the suggestions Hovey! I watch a lot of your videos, i also have the original "tree lounge" treestand. I love it!
Quick question...what is the approximate weight of each stand? Thanks!
Thanks, and I didn't weigh them, but if I had to say probably 20lbs give or take!
could you add a hardware list ?
A box of 3" screws (exterior) and 2- 5" (5/16) bolts with washers and 5/16 lock nuts! That's really all I used, thanks
How would you climb up the tree with it?
Carson Lunde its not a climber stand its a hang on, you use pegs to climb up to it:)
Ohioutdoor Addicts TV oh okay. I am making one in school so thank you. this is a very awesome video.
What do you use to hold them to the tree
How heavy is it?
you can buy a hang on for 39 brand new with the strap included and it comes painted for the work you put into building in I already have mine hanging but I guess if your bored it works
what brand
thanks
I’m 7 foot 4 inches 450lbs is this ok for me
How many 8 foot boards did you use?
I've hunted for years from different kinds of tree stands. Hang-ons, climbers, ladder stands and if I've learned anything, you got to make sure your equipment is safe and will hold up against the elements. With the 45s is your measurements to the point or from the short sides
What's the weight limit
Great idea I would just make it bigger
J&Loutdoors ya i agree after using them a lot!
Sam Hunt outro? that blew my mind.
I'm 5' 3" and 390lbs. Do you think it would be safe for me?
Naw man. It was a joke.
No I'm 6 foot 4 and 275 I wouldn't dare try it
Zna lol
Did he use the word "Petru doing"?
Nice job
When he says 16 inches with a. 45 cut is it 16 inches on long or short side
serme16 yes
??? put them on the tree ?
How many 2x4 do you need to make 2 stands?
Chad Dillard I just made two and used 6 2x4x8
good job if I used stationary stands I would build it in a heartbeat but I'm a climber kind of guy....
smokehouse 1987 the way he builds its a quick pick up and run stand
Okayyyyy so how do I hang it I just made this for nothing?
Benny Arens just like a normal hang on! I like to use 2 ratchet straps around the main post (under the seat) and around the tree
Haha
thanks
also I would go with grade 8 bolts they r heat treated an will not bend
Houseknives Thanks for the tips!
Not necessary, as the wood will give out before grade 5 or even grade 2 will.
how heavy?
TheBlackicehunter its about 20lbs
you sit in that all day..?
Mountain Made yes
I bet hanging this stand compares to hauling logs out of the woods.
now get some blood spilled off of it. good job.
how many 2 x 4's to make one stand?
Shane Rose you need 3 2x4
It used to cost $25.00.
Would of been cool if you ended the video standing on them in the tree with the camera just zooming out.
Hola, está muy bueno! cuanto pesa? en kg o Lbs ? Gracias.
Cool idea but I would not trust the design to be strong enough to keep you safe. Maybe for a 90lb kid like you for short term. WARNING DO NOT MAKE THIS STAND OUT OF 2X2 WOOD LIKE I DID TO KEEP THE WEIGHT DOWN .YOU WILL DROP LIKE A ROCK OUT OF THE TREE . HA HA
Did you really? That's wasn't a good idea lol
NO JUST MESSING WITH YA . GREAT VIDEO GREAT IDEA
+butt head oh darn I would love to see a pic of one built with 2-2 😂
Ohioutdoor Addicts TV well god never put me on this earth to be a engineer i guess
2x2. ahahahahahah. ouch!
Aluminum
Just buy a quality lock on stand. They are very affordable, lighter, and will last 10 times longer. Although I appreciate the DIY desire, you don't scrimp on peanut butter or lock-on stands.
Shannon Lane that looks solid as a rock... i have been in cheaper store bought ones, i would rather had that. He knows what he is doing

could just nail on a piece of plywood to the top of the footrest...then tack on a couple of shingles for a non slip grip...?
I bought Woodglut once and now I have lifetime access to thousands of woodworking projects.
You should visit woodprix website if you would like to make it by yourself I think.
Wym, thats like $200 in lumber right there😂
you say the measurement to fast
Now as of 2021!!!☝️ TRIPLE your prices now!!!!🤬🤬🤬
Hang on stands are only 40 bucks at Wal-Mart but next time I wanna die hunting I'll be sure to build this death trap you have here with a 6 inch wide seat I sit in my stand for hours and hours most the time I hunt from morning to after noon my ass couldn't take sitting on this that long
Your a punk to talk about a kid trying to do something cool with his life. Unlike your kids probably being meth heads
plans from woodprix are awesome!
Splendidly to see Woodglut have new plans which helped me save some money and energy for this construction.
or you could just buy one dam there not that expensive

No thank you!!!!!! I did NOT ASK!!!!!@!
