My sister Becky's favourite song back then, always reminds me of her. The backstory to the song is good, how the police officer wrote the song about his current girlfriend who he would marry. You can see David Foster at the beginning of the video with the long hair, his wife DJ is singing back up on the record. RIP Donny Gerard who passed February 2022.
Your sis has great taste! This is the first song by that impressario, David Foster, that went big, in the mid 70's. So beautifully interpreted by Skylark. Stunningly soulful and melodic, it pireces you to your very soul. The gorgeous power of music from the greatest decade, the magical 70s.
As I understand it the song was written by a police officer about his girlfriend who was a nurse for cancer or hospice patients. They were supposed to go out for dinner and she came home upset and crying needing having lost sever patients that day. Needing some time she laid down to rest and fell asleep. He watched her sleep and thought it best not to wake her but let her get a break from it all and dream away. And that inspired this song. Understand the story behind this song makes it that much more powerful.
I met my wife in 1973 and this is one of the songs that I associate with that wonderful time in my life. Also, this song employs a brilliant metaphor that made me and still makes me realize how delicately special she was.
I describe it as ear candy. Nice soulful ballad. Nice guitar work with a touch of Wah. Thanks for this selection. Stay beautiful inside and out and I'll catch U L8R! Ciao Bella! 👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
You described this magnificent song perfectly! This song has very deep significance for me, which I'd rather not discuss, but it touches my very soul, essence and core! 😲 Wow!
What an amazing, dreamy, soulful song which takes me right back to Jr. High. This awakens so many deep, profound memories of early love. So rich and heartwarming 50 years on.
This ProgRock song was from the first band of Canadian David Foster (keyboads), later a famous producer and composer (Chicago, Pete Cetera, EW and F, Celine Dion) many more !!!!
this was david fostersbfirst song he did go on to have great success with celine dion gret writer hes written many song for loads of artists this is already on my playlist mike from england thank you angela
the good old 1970's... great lyrics, unique music and killer lead & background vocals ! try another one hit wonder from the 70's a group called Spiral Staircase song More Today Than Yesterday
From what I remember, a classmate of the lead singer had wrote this song as a poem and lead singer formed it into a song I could be way off, but I’m pretty sure I’m close that is awesome. What a mega hit for all your women out there you’re irreplaceable!!!!
I didn't know until just now that the artists were black. Back then, the race didn't matter to anyone I knew. Everyone was making solid, elegant, high quality music.
Great!!! Skylark - Wildflower --- love it Thank You for doing this one it takes me back. I get a little confused these days and I was mixing the title up with another great song called Wildfire.
Hi Ms. D., This is one of my all time favorite songs/ versions.. Done by another group a few years later.. I would love it without any words, it is Great.. ♠W.G.
Check out the Four Tops. Levi Stubbs has a superb baritone voice and the rest of the Tops, consisting of two tenors and one bass that compliment his singing with spot on harmonies.
The look on your face listening to this said it all. Just a Beautiful song Angela. Love me some 70's anytime. l Grew up listening to this on the radio.
Hi Miss Angela, and Welcome, I seen you and seen the way you care about feelings , that's normal , I had lost a wife in a car accident , later about 3 yrs ago I lost my Mom , Now I'm 67 yrs old and been alone for 18 yrs , I have a song for you to listen to and also your people on you program, The song is More than Love by Los Lonely Boys , you'll love it , Thank You , Samuel , Your doing fine and keep on 🌹 🌹
You do you and I will do me! Even though I have met New Birth's lead singer I love their version because of the killer harmony. Skylark's version is sweet, but too boring and I'm a die-hard soul lover. @@sukie584
In his PBS special (Hit Man) back a few years ago, David Foster had Blake Shelton cover this song and it was a sweet country version, but this original... it just hits in all the right places and is dreamy, melancholy, and romantic. This is a perfect song to me. ❤
Hi Angela, This ballad "Wildflower" by Skylark is a timeless classic that will never grow old!!! The next best cover of this song was done by a band called NEW BIRTH, which is also worthy of reacting to, as their build up, add-libs & harmonies raised this song to another level...and here is the Link to NEW BIRTH'S version of "Wildflower" ruclips.net/video/YE0pbXD5ILA/видео.htmlsi=6BynkLaHq5lloK-Q
I'm not knocking Skylark's version at all because it was very good & done well, but I totally agree with you, that's why I said that New Birth's version with "their build up, add-libs & harmonies raised this song to another level." In other words, they upgraded this song, which makes it better!!! And I hope that Angela reacts to New Birth's version also!!! @@lavantwooten2581
Day one if you're reading this, that's a nice song. But listen to the New Birth version of this song. They killed it! I've seen how you react to things, and trust me, you won't be disappointed.
There are two other groups that sing the song both do a great job in their own style. The groups are New Birth. The other is the O jays, it's on the live in London album. Tell me what you think
Hey Angela. Great reaction to this classic. I know you may not react twice to the same song, but please check out the O'Jays rendition of Wildflower......you are in for a treat
1973. I was dating this brickhouse named Heather. I thought things were copacetic but then she laid a guilt trip on me, saying how I was a total spaz. But between LBJ dying, Roe v Wade and the peace agreement with North Vietnam I needed to take a chill a pill and watch the boob tube (“DY-NO-MITE”) Have a nice day.
Listening with one earbud and playing with your phone while "reacting" is very disrespectful to your audience. I'm always on the lookout for good new reactors. That kind of disinterest is always a red flag. Bye.

He's recently passed. Great man. Great fiend. Marvelous singer.
Donny Gerrard. Rest my friend.
Amazing…love it…Timeless Classic!!! Wow I wish I was a Grown Man in those days…
Back when music was just A Beautiful Story 🙏🏻❤🔥❤💯

So....yes many versions, but if I recall correctly, this is the one that was the radio hit. 😊
Hell yeah! And it's the only version I care to hear!
Another great one. Hardly anyone reacts to this gem. Thank you.
And I don't know why!
Smh
this and 1000's of others these reactors pass on...theres so MUCH more out there being missed.
I haven't heard this in years.❤
Me too but surprisingly remembered all of the lyrics.
I would listen to this and many great 70s tunes as a child. But this one I loved the most.
I met my wife in 1973 and this is one of the songs that I associate with that wonderful time in my life. Also, this song employs a brilliant metaphor that made me and still makes me realize how delicately special she was.
I am 60 years old and love it as well. It’s probably one of my favorite songs of all time.
Love this song so much, thanks for reacting to it.
great reaction and its about time someone requested one of my favorite songs of all time!! wildflower is just an awesome song
I love this song❤. A great band and this man’s voice is definitely one of the best voices I’ve ever heard! Incredible!
OMG, haven't heard this in decades. SOOO love it. Thank you Angela and requestors.

I love this song. I still stick this vinyl LP on once in awhile. Such a nice warm sound from this man’s vocal cords.

the good old 1970's... great lyrics, unique music and killer lead & background vocals ! try another one hit wonder from the 70's a group called Spiral Staircase song More Today Than Yesterday
Angela, i love the way you said...that voice!! Like you do...when you olay Karen Carpenter! Please so much more of her!!

You got great taste in music. And you have a pleasing voice and smile. Makes me enjoy coming here everyday...
Great!!! Skylark - Wildflower --- love it Thank You for doing this one it takes me back. I get a little confused these days and I was mixing the title up with another great song called Wildfire.
Wildfire by Michael Martin Murphey released in 1975!
Wildfire was really good too.
Yes. You guys got it. I love Wildfire too.
This is one of my All Time fav songs… You Need to hear “New Birth”’s Interpretation!!!!
This song is dear to me! Thx Angela!
Hi Ms. D., This is one of my all time favorite songs/ versions.. Done by another group a few years later.. I would love it without any words, it is Great.. ♠W.G.
Never knew this song's name or artist. It's a classic from the era. Thanks!

Memories ❤❤❤❤❤
I only heard this version of this song from Skylark and I simply love it!
It's a timeless Masterpiece!
Loved your reaction to it baby girl!
That brother can sing!!
Pure heat..that voice could sing a Chinese menu and kill it
This is a masterpiece!!
I love this song
The look on your face listening to this said it all. Just a Beautiful song Angela. Love me some 70's anytime. l Grew up listening to this on the radio.
I hadn't heard this one and enjoyed it. Great vocals and backing, reminds me a bit of the Commodores-Colin Ward
I love this original one now I love new birth too but this one makes me cry it’s something about his voice
Oh wow! I used to really like this song back in '73, '74, and I haven't heard it in decades, I'm sure. Thank you, Angela!
Jamie Foxx's song "Upredictable" samples the version of this song by the group "New Birth"......Good reaction!
Canadian classic.
David Foster wrote and played keyboards in this group
She's such pretty baby pretty baby she is angel
Sleep's the only freedom that she knows . Wow !😢
My favorite version was Newbirth until I heard this version, I never heard this version. Keep up the good work
Aaron Neville while in the Neville Brothers does my favorite version of this, a live one at Tipitina's in New Orleans, but this is good too.
RIP Donny Gerrard

Always reminds me of my mom😢
That was damned good!
Donny Gerard is the man lead singer what a voice young lady for sure
My favorite version of this was done by New Birth (The angelic harmony is awesome) and the O'Jays did an awesome version of this song.
Oh stop!
Stop what?@@nkcbrazil
New Birth Church it up .Like they do all their songs. But the guitar solo in the Middle makes this song the best by far
The main vocal on New Birth version is great but really it’s far too busy overall for the lyrics. This version respects the gentle, quietness..
You do you and I will do me! Even though I have met New Birth's lead singer I love their version because of the killer harmony. Skylark's version is sweet, but too boring and I'm a die-hard soul lover. @@sukie584

CANADIANS! YAY! Vancouver band - David Foster's first band.
Love this song !! Haven’t heard it in sooo long. Beautiful!! 😅
The original!❤

Im an oldster...and kive this song...but gotta do some research...becuz this guys voice is incredible.

The music to this song was sampled by Jamie Foxx on his song “Unpredictable” - he chose well though, it’s a classic and beautiful song 👌🏽
Didn't know that! But I will give it a listen.
Even though this is my favorite version of the song.
I strongly suggest Little Red Riding Hood, From Sam the Sham

This was a great song, completely forgot about it, thanks, nice slow dancing song

She’s paying for a debt she never owed
Hey Angela... Can you react to the full version of this by a band called "New Birth?" Soo much soul it's crazy!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😃
Some serious baby making music.
Reminds me of my ex girlfriend Debra D who passed away last September
Not sure, but I think David Foster had something to do with this recording. Early days for him!
Hmm first time hearing this version. Very different from New Birth’s…
Please listen to. New Birth. Version of Wildflower. Is as good . Both versions are great😊
I did, completely disagree this is so much better.
I agree ' New Birth's is better,,,
I always thought he had such a great voice. It’s a shame that song was the only hit.
1 hit wonder
