    I finally got to see a Pit Boss Phoenix assembled and on display at a different Walmart. I was pretty impressed. The lid is nice and solid and overall, it is a REALLY nice grill for under $400. I would love to see you do a simple high heat cook with pellets to see if this pellet kettle can deliver a simple weeknight meal like burgers or pork chops. The Pit Boss Phoenix has already risen on my wish list!

    Wow this was probably the most anticipated review I have seen. I think you are the first to post any videos on this. I don’t think a lot of people know about it since it is a walmart exclusive. I don’t know if I can pull the trigger on it seen to be too many bad reviews on pit boss in general. It is prob worth it for the money as a budget option, but I think I would probably go with the reqtec. It will be interesting to see if we see Weber ever do something similar. They just released the smoque so probably not.

    I think I'd rather just use a charcoal chimney instead of the pellets to get the charcoal going. Looking forward to more videos on this.

    Cool. Agree with their front shelf’s. What would be really cool is if it works like the spider venom, where the fan would control airflow in charcoal mode to maintain a certain set temp.

    How about one of your famous mods. I agree. Shelves always seem too small. A large cutting board looked like it would bolt up just fine to that shelf. Great work. Keep it up.

  • @davez5941

    Nice video. I would light charcoal with a chimney and wire a rheostat to power the fan with the unit off and now you can feed the fire and use the fan speed and the dampers on the lid for temp. One could probably buy a pid controller to monitor temps and adjust the fan speed to turn the charcoal, similar to the spider venom. So a controller to rn the pellets when you want to use them and one to run the charcoal when you want to use it.

    I went to the two large Walmarts near me last night. As promised, both had one Phoenix in stock but still in the box. I seriously doubt anyone who wasn't on a mission to find them like I was would even notice them. I was very disappointed that neither store had a Phoenix on display alongside the other Pit Boss grills they had out for you to inspect. I really want to touch and feel one to see what impressions a close inspection would give me. I can't see how these will sell very well with so little news about them and not on the floor of their sol retailer. Maybe Walmart will do more to promote these when warmer weather arrives.
    I also have my sights on a Recteq Bullseye Deluxe, but they are twice as expensive. The Recteq offers more, of course, and looks to be better built. But you could buy TWO of these Phoenix grills and keep one in the box as a backup! If I were to get a Phoenix, I would swap in the cast iron diamond pattern grate I was lucky to get used and cheap, and I think I would substitute one of my excess black Weber kettle lids.

    Front shelf is a bit skinny. Still overall a cool grill. Great video Tom. Thank you 😃😃

  • @tedz.
    @tedz. 17 дней назад +2

    Lot going on there Tom. It's like the Bullseye and Weber got together and had a baby grill. I thought you could snuff the fire with a Weber kettle lid, but the grease drain opening defeats that. I also thought the controller would control the temperature when using charcoal like the Venom does. That would be very interesting. (just saw davez's comment, he gets first credit)

      Thanks Ted! Kinda makes one wonder why they didn’t go the next step, the mechanicals are all there, although the fan set up venting through the burn pot probably isn’t the ideal way to maintain it also promotes the possibility of additional fire in auger tube and the blowing of pellet ash through out the grill

    I'd wait a model or two down the line so they can further flesh this thing out. I don't like the lack of a "real" lid catch and I really don't like that I don't see an ash clean out system. Kind of looks like two different cooking systems that were done ok... But not great .. if they eventually figure out how to do both great, then this will be an awesome product.
