Brother Alton. Glad to see another video from you. 🎉🎉
PitBoss still shows you love.. they don’t even answer my emails anymore.
I wonder after using charcoal a couple times, how easy it is to fully clean up?
Your video was very good, fair and balanced, with some good information
Hey wzup guys? Funny you ask that. I just filmed some clips of cleaning it Sunday. It actually is SUPER simple. Pull the charcoal basket and dump it, then vacuum out the kettle and fire pot. It's pretty quick and easy. I may have to produce a short for this. I appreciate the feedback on the content. I'm trying to get back to consistency here. one day at a time my friends.
Love the color scheme! The temp panel looks super user-friendly, and having dual built-in thermos is a fantastic touch. The top lid venting is really unique and interesting too. The dual-mode design for both charcoal and pellets is such a cool solution - perfect for tackling low and slow cooks, which are usually tricky on kettle charcoal grills. Shoutout to Pit Boss for that innovation. That reverse-sear ribeye sounds mouthwatering! Awesome video and an awesome grill! 🔥👏
Thanks for all the kind words! I'm glad you liked it. I've got high hopes for this unit!
Alton, Thanks so much for your initial review. I enjoyed your balanced perspective and hope to see you do some cooks on this new Pit Boss soon. I have been looking at the Recteq Bullseye deluxe. I know it can reach much higher temperatures, but I am not sure how important that really is. This Pit Boss seems to check a number of the key boxes, so I think there is a new challenger in the pellet kettle arena!
I agree with you about the goofy tool hooks, but I got to look at one in person at Walmart today, and I was overall impressed with the build, especially for less than 400 bucks! You might want to mention that it is a 22" diameter, interchangeable with a lot of Weber add-ons and accessories made for Weber 22" kettles. I know I would want to up the cooking grate, but a really cool addition would be a rotisserie ring that would go on easily with the removable (not hinged) lid. Please keep these great video coming!
Thanks for the tip, I’ll keep the interchangeable Weber stuff in mind when I do some cooks on it!
I'm not sure how well that will work as a charcoal grill. That charcoal basket looks VERY shallow, and probably hard to clean out ash afterwards. I used to love my big ol' Pit Boss 1150 Pro, but then I got hooked on charcoal and I think I fired it up once all of last year. My little Weber kettle became my go-to. It's just hard to beat the intense searing heat of hot coals or the flavour from charcoal and wood chunks. This may be a decent solution for someone who can only have one grill, but wants a bit of both. Not everyone has Grill Acquisition Syndrome where you just get one of everything ... sadly, I'm afflicted. Thankfully, my wife is very understanding. :)
I hear that 1000%!!! I cook on a lot of different grills but the kettle will always be in the fold! And I think you hit it on the head about the use for this for people that maybe only have the space or budget for one cooker that can be versatile.
What a great Idea for a cooker. Love your videos.
Thank you for that. I appreciate it for sure.
Hey Alton. This is a Very Nice looking Grill. So Many options. I absolutely LOVE it.. I am very interested in this unit!!😍👍👍👍✌✌✌. Thank you for sharing Brother.
Appreciate ya man! Glad you're liking what you see on this one.
Love the versatility on this one!
Indeed!!!
This grill is going to be a lot of fun to cook on! And it's pretty easy on the eyes...
Oh yeah! It will get a lot of use for sure!
I love pit boss. they make hundred different types of pits. nice job Alton
They do! This one is pretty awesome.
I would love to see a review on a Masterbuilt Gravity feed smoker. Actually any Gravity feed smoker.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into it.
Can’t wait to see that ribeye cook! Now that it’s warming up I guess it’s time to fire up my Phoenix!
Fire it up!!! Can't wait to see the magic you make with this grill bro.
Thanks!
You betcha! Glad you found it helpful! Thank you so much for the thanks and for checking out hte content!
You made some great points for improvements👍😊
Appreciate ya!
First off great introduction video. This unit shows promise. So I agree there should definitely be casters on the left side. But I like the size of wheels that come with it on the right. About the tool hangers yea I agree better placement is in order. But you know I believe that can be said about most outdoor cookers. It's like they are one of the last considerations in the design process. Now the hook in the lid. They should be larger so as to make it simple and easy to use. Last need for improvement, the pellet dump. To many steps to do to empty. The dumper should be very easy to use so as to encourage the user to ALWAYS dump at the end of every cook. This unit is a very great beginner cooker and I say that as a positive. Far to many folks who have never done bbq are going straight to pellets and I believe in the long run that's a shame. I still believe if you can only have one cooker or are just beginning the Webber kettle is the way to go. That said I believe this unit is a very good option to. Im looking forward to seeing your cook reviews. One more thing. You mentioned the oger was somewhat noisy. That makes me suspicious about how long that becomes a problem and stops working. I'd hate to see them do a epic Webber rollout that goes badly because they have a problem with the motor/auger. By the way, did you ever notice it's less cold when you add a shot of Kahlua to your coffee or hot chocolate. Hmmm so nice ☕️🌤😂.
Thanks Victor. I couldn't agree more about the kettle. I've told people that as well. Kettles are so versatile and are great for the beginner or a seasoned vet! As for the pellet dump. you could just leave the lever plate out and just pull the plug whenever you need it. Having both on there is a great safety for the "just in case" type event I believe. I think it just depends on the owner and how they want to do it. The other thing missing on this is the easy slide out fire pot dump. This unit is back to using a vacuum to clean out the fire pot. BUT, it's pretty easy to do.
@TheDawgfathasBBQ does anyone other then Lonestargrillz have the pull out fire pot? Currently because I'm such a big Lonestargrillz fan their pellet is the only one I would get. I LOVE my large IVS from them. But I feel no one new to bbq should spend much more then $500 on their first cooker. That's why I'm looking forward to seeing your review on this cooker, both smoking and grilling. It would be great to have two options to give someone who asks for a starter unit. I really need to learn how to give links. Yesterday I mentioned to someone to check out your latest video. And that this cooker is something that they might want to check out. Here's a funny thought about the popularity of set it and forget it cookers. I believe the best of all time of that class of cookers is the electric rotisserie. Simple and easy to use. Not expensive and became so popular back in the 50's & 60's. Occasionally you see manufacturer's add rotisseries as a accessory but the public doesn't really understand what a fantastic tool it is. I mention this because it appears far to many folks who truly don't understand bbq think it's only the "best" if it's "new" and expensive. Lastly you mentioned about what we might like to see you do in your videos. I miss your trips to the occasional bbq competition or bbq place. Those were fun. Anyway take care of yourself and your family. Soon it will be spring and im looking forward to saying the words " Fish On ". 🎣🐟🍻😀
Alton nice review. Interesting smoker my friend
Nice review
Glad you liked it! Good to see you cranking out those Primo videos too my man. Sweet cooker!
I've watched a few videos on this thing. It's one of those does different things ok, but not one thing great. I'd wait a couple of model years to see if they can make what it does, great.
You're likely right, but it's a great value for the money.
To be honest that spice box is kind of useless. I generally cover everything inside to begin with. But also if you keep spices outside that humidity will ruin them. Overall it looks cool though
I can understand that. I'm sure we'll find a different use for it as needed. I don't keep any spices outside either. BUT, if I am cooking something that gets seasoned as we cook it, I find the value in that space.
Interesting setup in that grill, looks like it’s going to be a great cooker!
I hope so brother! Thanks for dropping by...
Seen your video and really liked the grill! I was wondering, is it big enough to cook a brisket?
If so, I'm buying one.
It is the same as the Weber kettle in being a 22" grill. So yes, you could cook one on it if you wanted to. Good luck!!!
Are u able to sear with this grill like you can with other pit boss grills?
Absolutely. Light up the charcoal and off you go.
Can you augment charcoal cooking with pellet smoke? Seems like a missed opportunity if you cant.
I think you could with a pellet tube. But I would probably add wood chips/chunks at that point and not even bother with the pellets. Hopefully that makes sense.
I believe you can load up your charcoal grate and run in pellet mode , eventually that charcoal with catch fire do to heat
What is the diameter of the grill? Is it 22 inches like the Webber?
I asked ChatGPT and it said 22 inch
Yes it is. Sorry I didn't mention it in the video. Thanks for the comment and watching.
That looks way easier to clean than the tabletop pellet grill from them. Getting in those corners is no fun.
It is definitely a lot easier to clean!
I really wish these had been out before I bought my Rec-Teq Bullseye. You'd think for what they want for it they could design in a grease drain the way Pit Boss did, but nope.
I hear that. I think all grills have something they missed in the design phase. lol
What size kettle and honestly I'm not real big on pellets but this is looking sweet for the price. Also not knowing that much about them, you didn't mention an air intake adjustment for the bottom of the grill just the top. How does that work with charcol?
This is a 22" kettle. As for the air intake, there is only the exhaust on the lid that I know of. I haven't noticed it struggle with charcoal to this point, but with that said, I haven't tried a low and slow with charcoal as of yet.
@@TheDawgfathasBBQ appreciate the info.
@@smokinwithskruggsit has a fan like the gravity cookers with charcoal
@@TruckinRoundTv so the fan can be activated with out running the hopper then?
@@smokinwithskruggs You got it.
Nice
Appreciate you bro!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Appreciate you my man. Looking forward to seeing you do your thing with this unit!
No recommendation for types of videos all of them are great I want to see a snare drum solo segway
😂😂
HILARIOUS!!!!!
This is just a bad design. Can't use pallets and charcoal at the same time. While using charcoacl (grill) the controller isn't active. If i wanted a Weber Kettle I']d buy one. This "Hybrid" will bomb on the shelves. Lid won't even close tight when smoking. Buy a Savannah and a small Weber Kettle. You couldn''t give me one of these things.
Thanks for your opinion.
You can use both. Leave it in pellet mode and light your charcoal manually with a comet or what ever method you prefer. It’s a great little package for someone that does not want or have space for multiple grills. There are some compromises for sure but overall great design that I’m sure will improve with time
