  • Wow! I've actually managed to get the rudder back on. Smooth as clockwork - no problems at all. This means that, in theory, Serenity is actually seaworthy. Also, a bit more progress on sorting out the Honda Civic. It's only done 190,000 miles. I am determined to fix it so that I can take it over 200,000.

Fascinating video Paul as always and great to see the Rudder up there and the tiller looking so good... Good luck with the last bit of painting and the final antifoul before splashing... Michael

Michael, it will be quite a while before splashing. But, yes it is great to have the rudder back on. I'm going to get Lucy to do the anti-foulng early, just to make it look nice; even though I know I will have to do it before launch.
      Cheers, Paul

Good to see you again Paul.
Poor Lucy certainly earns her Chocolate!, I did think the division of labour was a bit skewed pulling that rudder up 😅 ……. just saying!
And the car engine, don’t you just hate it when you have to take off a bit, to take off another bit , to get to a bit you’ve got to take off to get to the bit that you actually wanted to take off….. give me a good old fashioned Morris Minor ‘B’ series engine any day…… so many ‘happy’ hours keeping one going during my student days…. I became quite good at it!
    All the best,
    Richard.

Yes. Actually, we played a bit of a trick on Lucy. Her job was really to take up the slack on the safety line. We could easily have lifted the rudder and then got her just wind up the rope. - But that wouldn't have been funny.

Well done old chap. A very big milestone getting the rudder on!

James, yes. Quite a small step - but it feels really good to have an 'operational' boat once more.

Speaking of biblical floods, boats have always been major projects going way back to Noah's time. Scholars who have done the math say that it took Noah 100-120 years to build his famous ark mentioned in the book of Genesis. I'm sure he had to stop now and then to milk the elephants and giraffes -which would certainly have cut into his boatwork schedules.

Well at least I now have a target. If it takes me less than 100 years I will be doing fine. But, milking a giraffe - that would be a good subject for a video.

Working for chocolate options might be very profitable nowadays :-)

I'm pretty sure the whole economy would work just fine with a chocolate currency.

Ha ha. Yes, I should start one of the episodes with, "This video has been made possible by Cadbury Milk Chocolate Flake".

Do chocolate fingers qualify as digital currency in your family?
I formed this joke based on my misconception of what a "digital examination" meant when my Dr said my prostate needed one.
I thought it was a piece of kit that had evolved from an analogue version.
I had a lifelong techy career and tend to overthink some things.
I had a bit of a Frankie Howard shock that day.

Yes, the word 'digital' was brought into being specifically for such jokes. Not a digital currency as such, but those chocolate doubloons we hand on the Christmas Tree soon become 'bit' coins the moment they are unwrapped.

So did you mark every pulley wheel that the cam belt went around? If not and the belts still on, I'd go back and do it.

    • @verynearlyaboutsailing8114
      @verynearlyaboutsailing8114  Год назад

No I didn't. The lower part of the belt is very firmly held against the two lower pulleys. There is a very strong tensioning wheel. Nevertheless, after having decided to do this I did double check. Apparently, this is the standard way of managing the cambelt if it does not need replacing. Of course, most people would replace the cambelt at the same time - but mine has only done a few thousand miles.
