Oh, and before I forget, this season was also the one where the Toronto Maple Leafs lost to a 42 year old Zamboni driver, who works for them. May or may not have been the true beginning of steve dangle’s joker arc.

Best moment of the season was Toronto losing to a 42 year old Zamboni driver who was employed by the Marlies (maybe not for Leafs fans but it gave the rest of the league something to laugh at as it was around the time of the first official corona outbreak in China). Worst moment was that game between Boston and Tampa shortly before the pause. Boston shoots the puck at the Tampa net, it looks like the Tampa player just kept it out, play goes the other way, Tampa gets a shot off, it is kept out, as Boston starts to carry it back up the ice the goal horn goes off, stopping play, and a line brawl breaks out. It turned out the Tampa player wasn't quick enough to keep the puck out of his net, Boston was awarded a goal, and at least a couple players from each side were removed from the game. Reason why this was the worst IMHO was play should have continued until the next whistle, then the refs could have looked at the video review to see if there was a goal during the previous play because it happened so fast that the ref behind the net couldn't tell if it went in or not. Then they wouldn't have had a line brawl to deal with when it was all said and done.

Brayden Point might go down as having the best playoff performances without winning a Conn Smythe. Both his 2020 and 2021 performances were amazing, but Hedman and Vasy in the respective years deserved it a bit more.

Yes, I am a Tampa resident. So I'm biast to a certain degree. But its absurd when I see those who claim Tampas cup doesnt count. Which hypothetically. Sure, lets pretend. This season will always be special to me. I never cared about or even watched hockey before this season. It wasn’t offered as a sport growing up, and I didn’t even really know hockey fans at all.
I was bored during Covid and decided to start getting into it, and I totally got bit by the bug. I go to as many games I can locally now, and I even picked up playing hockey in a beer league. While this season/time period had a lot of dark things with it, I’ll always remember it introducing me to my favorite sport.

The Tigers had the second worst season in their history with 114 losses, the Lions only won 3 games that season with Matt Patricia as probably the worst head coach in football, the Pistons were one of the worst teams before the pause, and the Red Wings had the worst season in the salary cap era.

The Red Wings this season would have reminded Mickey Redmond of the Red Wings when he played for them. The playoffs looked like one of those pre-season hockey tournaments where you get random teams playing towards the end of the summer in front of a handful of fans, so it didn't look completely strange except that it was for the Stanley Cup and not a bunch of rookies playing to try to make the team.

That 5OT game was bonkers. If the Jackets would have won that, well Tampa would have still won it all (more on that next paragraph) but that doubt is still in there. Also for game 5 of the QR, the sum of Leafs' top line's cap hit is just above the entire Jackets' forward group
This season was supposed to be a "hey let's have some fun" for the Jackets since we lost everyone that was a UFA and basically see what we have. There were times in which we have iced a 50% AHL team that was squeak out some wins which was worthy for Torts to get the nomination. At the pause, the team was in free fall and, going off from memory, the rest the games are against teams who are in playoff spots. I knew we weren't going to make it. Because we made it to the 1st round, I can point out this is which the FO decided to go for it one more year instead start retool/rebuild. Next video I'll go into more detail.

Stars fan pain, but this was the season that truly got me hooked on hockey.
I’d always been exposed to it thanks to my dad; we had season tickets to the Texas Stars game growing up. We always had hockey on in the house, but I never payed too much attention to it besides at a superficial level.
Then the Stars went on a run at a time when there was nothing much else to do but be home and watch. I’ll never forget Gurianov’s heroics, Miro’s defensive prowess (that seemed under appreciated by national media), JFK’s insane game 7, “we’re not going home!,” nor the pain of defeat when it was all said and done.
And as a fun note, I got to go to the Winter Classic in Dallas with my dad, just a few months before the whole world shut down.

The hockey gods imposed their will on that season by causing Boumeester to have heart issues and then brought on the pandemic as they had no interest in the Blues repeating. Of course it's the Blues luck when they are at the peak of their play winning a cup and then leading the west in the regular season in 2020/21 that a pandemic happens and upsets any momentum they had. It's possible that they win again if not. Would that have continued? No, they had a few aging players that weren't going to stay (Tarasenko and O'Reilly and Perron). The Blues over the years had teams that had more talent than that team, but that team played as a team like I've never seen out of Blues team. They were relentless in the offensive zone and had that huge defense. Losing Boumeester hurt.
