Made the Cointreau with Seville Oranges. I made half batches using 2 liter canning jars and supporting the oranges above the everclear alcohol on a small glass measuring cup. I heated the alcohol in a double boiler until it just began to boil, then screwed on the lid. This put it under a vacuum and it sealed. I then put it over a heat register to alternately heat and cool it. Spectacular! Tasted side by side with real Cointreau. Identical flavor profile and depth but slightly little more bitter. I will now try to make marmalade from the spent oranges. Too sour to eat. Thankyou. Cost is about $10/ liter vs $45/liter.
My wife declared it superior to commercial Cointreau by a blind test of our favorite cocktail. It has high notes not present in the commercial product.@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato

I tried to make similar liqueur by using the method of making limoncello, which is to immerse orange peel in high proof alcohol for several days, and mixed with simple syrup. The final product was used to drink with lemon soda, and it tastes just like Fanta with booze. 😄😅
I made mead (honey wine) with orange peel as natural flavouring agent. The sweetness is there due to leftover honey in the drink but result is spectacular. I added cold soda water and it was wonderful experience. I just peeled the upper layer of the skin to extract orange essence as white portion is generally bitter. It's crystal clear after finishing and now it's more than an year old. Still have 8 litres of booze left.

Hi! Thank you for the recipe! If using vodka, why not make the sugar syrup richer, in order to add less water. Also, how does this compare in flavor to a Cointreau or Dry Curaçao in a Margarita? Thank you and best regards!
