    Hope you have a fun and anxiety-free trip! 🙏🏻 Im happy for you guys. It’s been a long time! Cant wait to see Herky at the beach. Those are my favorite vlogs. Some day you will stay at the southeast coast. Yes Milton, how rude about the ESA. Most US airlines also have a weight requirement of 20 pounds: dog + pet carrier weight, and some representatives are very strict about it. My cav gained a little bit of pandemic weight I dont know what Im going to do for our next trip.

    • @DaniAlexandria
      @DaniAlexandria 2 года назад

      Its not rude it is about safety. too many people were faking ESAs to not pay the pet fee and their untrained dogs were making flights dangerous for service animals who are considered medical equipment under the law

      Do they actually weigh your dog? If you’re slightly off by a few pounds, it should be fine, right?

    I wanna travel to Mexico with my male Shih-Tzu, his name is Chaplin and he is about three years old ❤ He is very sweet and shy with strangers but I think I can work with that. I’m trying to get his certificates also, but I’m also curious about the the carrier matter. When traveling…..do we have to bring an extra bag for our pooch or can we just put it all along with our luggage? How does it work? please respond! ❤ I’m new to your channel.

    I’m trying to travel with my cav to Vancouver from Toronto and I’m super anxious because the dimensions of the carrier vary depending on the aircraft you’re flying in. I bought a carrier that meets the requirement of H10.5” W15.5” L21.5” but when I was about to book with air Canada, they told me for one of those flights the max height was 8”… I’m super scared of getting to the airport and then having them telling me he can’t fly. I can’t imagine leaving him as a checked bag, he’d be terrified. My carrier is a soft-side that does have some flexibility but not to the point of being 8” high. Can you help me figure this out based on your experience?

    Hi! I have a dog who is pretty small (15lbs Italian greyhound, 15" tall), but would need to be sitting/lying down with the carrier fully zipped. On the Air Canada website it says that dogs need to be able to stand in their carriers but is this rule enforced? Or are they allowed if they just fit in the carrier (given they are comfortable of course). Thanks for the video

    Hello ! How heavy are your dogs ? Do they weight them at the airport during the checkin ? I have a 9kg cavalier and usually the airlines in Europe only accept a dog + bag up to 8kg.. 😞

  • @DaniAlexandria

    Just an FYI for everyone the rules of air travel in North America (ACAA) has changed and no longer allow ESAs to roam on flights. This is now only reserved for Service Animals. If you are traveling with a Service Animal you will have to fill out paperwork that needs to be submitted no later than 24 hours before your flight and each airline has different paperwork

    I’m preparing to travel on Air Canada with a puppy. I’m concerned about being turned away if the pet carrier ( Medium Sherpa) isn’t the exact size. The Sherpa can be compressed. Have you had any issues with this? Any recommendations?

    We used the Sherpa Deluxe in Large (same you use for Herky) to fly with Air Canada last summer from Montreal to Calgary and then from Vancouver to Montreal with Air Canada and for both flights we were threatened that our dog won’t be allow in cabin as she couldn’t stand fully in her carrier!! :(
    Our dog is 15 pounds and 14 inch high from paw to shoulder. She lowers her head when she enters her carrier (like Herky does) and she can turn and lay comfortably. We had to insist for both flights, but the one from Vancouver to Montreal the agent was very rude and we were very afraid he wouldn’t let us board with our dog. She slept all the way for both flights!
    We are going back to Vancouver this summer and we will fly with WestJet this time as I have a response in writing that her height won’t be an issue. I hope it will be okay this time!! :’)

    • @herkythecavalier
      @herkythecavalier  2 года назад

      This is what we are afraid of also! I guess it depends who the agent is at the counter? :( How did you convince them otherwise to let you on?

    • @christineg.3041
      @christineg.3041 2 года назад +2

      Yes I think it depends of the agent but also how strict the airline is. I sent a message to Delta and they also replied me in writing it won’t be an issue if my dog can’t stand fully. And same with Flair airlines (actually they don’t mention the usual “stand up/turn/lay” and when I messaged them they just replied the dog had to be comfortable in her carrier, that’s it.
      With Air Canada, before we booked tickets last summer, I called Customer service and the agent told me it shouldn’t be a problem. So at the checkin counter when the agent told me my dog was too tall, I told her that the agent at Customer service told me it wouldn’t be a problem. She didn’t insist and gave me my ticket.
      At Vancouver, I was so stressed because of what happened in Montreal. When we arrived at the checkin counter, my dog was already laying comfortably in her carrier. The agent took a look at her and said rudely “Sorry but she’s too big. It’s cruelty.” I was sooooo upset and I immediately asked to speak with a supervisor. He was “Yes sure I’ll call him but she won’t be able to board, sorry”. I was almost crying and my husband had to calm me. Then the supervisor told the agent over the phone if she could turn and lay comfortably. I pointed my perfectly calm dog who walks already laying with still lots of room (she’s only 15 pounds!! But she’s fluffy so maybe it doesn’t help her haha). Then I asked my dog to turn, and she turned without issue a few times. The agent sighed and finally said “Ok, you’re lucky for this time as she shouldn’t be in cabin.” For me, I was done with Air Canada.
      When we landed in Montreal and we were waiting for our suitcase, we saw someone with a poodle as big as my dog. I asked her if she had issues, and she told it always depends on the agent! But what helped her is to shave her dog before flying (I can’t do that to my dog, she’s meant to be fluffy haha) and have a paper from the vet that her dog has numerous travels and fits perfectly in his carrier.
      So I bought a tight pyjama for my dog so she would appear smaller while wearing it, and I had a paper from my vet that the carrier is perfectly ok for my dog and she already travelled with it. And I also have the response in writing from WestJet that as long as she’s comfortably in her carrier (which she is!) her height won’t be a problem.
      Hope it helped you a bit! I wish you a comprehensive agent at the checkin!

      Can the carrier fit underneath economy seats or do you sit in premium economy or business class?

    • @christineg.3041
      @christineg.3041 2 года назад

      It fits but you have to squeeze it as the lifevest is under the seat! We were lucky as we were allowed to put her carrier under the seats near the toilets; there’s no lifevest under them! And we were 2 rows behind so we could see her and she was calm - and passagers in front of her kept smiling and waving at her! :)
      And during both flights we were allowed to have the carrier on my lap (not during take off and landing).
