Such an iconic 1995-1996 song. Even Madonna went on record and said it was one of the best songs she ever heard even though "they played the shit out of it" and I still remember that quote years later!
You could not get away from this track back in the day. Literally for like a year this was on the radio. It was masssssive. And then they disappeared somewhere, like outer space. They found a better place.
Love this song since my teenage years. This group was huge in Europe, but in US, this was a One hit wonder, this song stayed at n.2 in US for many weeks, behind ''One Sweet Day'' by Mariah Carey and Boyz to Men. At this time, this was also the longest charting single in US charts, spent 55 weeks in the charts, thiers mainting this record for the next two years until Leann Rimes battle this record, with the song ''How I Do Live'' spent 69 weeks in the charts.
Tracey and Ben have actually been together for a total of 41 years!!! Married for 13 with 3 kids together. They've been inactive as EBTG since 2000. This song was my introduction to them (the radio had it playing every hour on the hour when released) and I still love it. Tracey's voice is special.
I can't say enough about EBTG. Tracey's voice is incredible and the songwriting is second to none. How the group was able to sync incredible beats to moody vocals and deep lyrics had me at hello back in the 90's. I own every album they ever made from their more folk days to their last electronica album. Of course, Tracey's songwriting followed her into a solo career where she made some solid albums. Let's not forget the collab with Massive Attack. Soo good!
I constantly play their final two albums when i'm chilling or have guests. Hard to believe they are from the 90s, as fresh as they still sound. People often are like ''You got some cool music playing in the background, who is that?'' haha Five Fathoms should get a reaction, too :)
This dance track wasn't typical of them. Most of their stuff was thoughtful, sophisticated jazzy pop/folk/deep house. A really classy act. Their name comes from a sign they saw in the window of a shop that was closing down. There was a full sized female mannequin in there and the sign said: For sale, everything but the girl.
Hi, Empress! "Missing" is the first song I heard from Everything But The Girl. But once I heard "Each And Everyone" by EBTG, that became a song for my playlist. I seriously can't believe that song "Each And Everyone", is from their Eden album released way back in 1984! It's really frustrating to find out about great songs, twenty years after they were released. But, better late than never.
The two final Everything But The Girl albums are amazing. Still sound timeless and fresh today. Perfect chill late night lounge music. This is one of their most up tempo ones and biggest hit, very house-y
Love this song. Tracy Thorn did music with Massive Attack (Massive Attack collaborated With Madonna on the Remake of Marvin Gaye's song " I Want You") Some great songs she did With Massive Attack.. "Protection" " Better Things.
Great song. I remember it always getting played in clubs and bars back in the late 90s. They are a duo, and a couple. They've been making music since the early 80s. Lead vocalist TT has made a few solo albums and written a few books too👏👏👏
Fell in love with this song when it first came out....heard the acoustic version, and fell in love, love, love with that version. What is the musical term for a song with an upbeat tempo, but the lyrics are sad and depressing? Such as this song is.....
This was very groundbreaking in terms of the music when it came out. I was 14 years old, and I remember that for a lot of us it was one of the first times hearing electronic music. It was something new to hear those sounds.
Used to love the vibe of this song back in the day and remember this remix being played in clubs. I always liked the melancholy sound of Tracy Thorn’s vocals… seemed so mysterious and moody yet cool. This song did get a bit overplayed for me when it was released but it does hold up well and does not sound too dated IMO. Fun reaction Empress!!😊
omg!! I was thinking that I could really sense the heartache in her voice, but then i told myself, that's just because I'm feeling these lyrics and music so much and then like 5 seconds later you said "and I really believe she does" (miss him) 😂😂 that made me smile, as you sometimes say "we're vibing" ❤
OMG 👍I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THIS JAM 🎸I LOVE THE LYRICS....YOU SHOULD REACT TO THE MUSIC VIDEO FROM (ADEVA -IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME) OR (MADONNA- WHOS THAT GIRL)OR THE MOVIE WHOS THAT GIRL.MUCH 💘💜💛💚🧡❤🤍💙❤🖤♥️.
The way I rushed out for this CD single when it came out haha. I can hear Cher singing this now that you mention it. Did you know Dannii turned down Believe? 😂😬
You picked some strange dance remix version and it loses the whole feel of the song. The original album version is so much better. It is more of a haunting melody, not an upbeat dance track. They did turn into a club song, but to me, that destroys the whole theme of the song.
This defines a moment in music if you were there.
After my sister passed away; this song played on repeat! It’s hauntingly beautiful!
So sorry to hear about your loss
This song was everywhere in 1996. It’s a beautiful song.
The late 90s club scene was so good 👩🏻🦳
They were a duo, Tracey Thorn, the vocalist, and Ben Watt, who is in the video playing guitar. They wrote their own songs.
Tracey’s voice soothes my soul.
This is Madonna's favorite singer. And great ear! It's the same producer who did the Cher remix as this remix
wow to both!!
Omg this was my first pick LONG AGO. this song ruled the club world in 1995
Tracey and Ben made some amazing music
🤣🤣🤣right! Finally out of jail

The Walking Wounded album 1996 is lit
and Amplified Heart!
Empress...Bop!!! Of course!!!

My all-time favorite EBTG song is, "No Difference". Sublime melancholy.

Oh wow‼️that's sweet
They recently got back together and started dropping new music today, hopefully there is a tour in the near future.
Oh wow! Come thru EBTG

A 90s club treasure :) mid to late 90s were a fun time for club songs
I absolutely adore this cool track, it was constantly on the radio when it was released. So glad you liked it. 💙
🔥🔥
Love this song.

Protection is a perfect song.

Empress, this a Bop 💯. I love this song. The remix w fire. Thank you
love this album and an eclectic one. such a anchor for my 90's life.

They used to play the hell out of this (version) at the clubs back in the day.
like yazoo and eurythmics, ebtg carry on the flags of the best duo Uk ever produced, Tracey;s voice full of emotion
EBTG is the group’s name. Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt
Got a lot of airtime back then ! I never clicked with them. But I did dance to them. Seems fair. 😎❤
Love this group

Whoa! Had no idea‼️
@@EmpressReacts yeah but the vocoder effect came when Cher recorded it. Brian Higgins who wrote it worked with Dannii a lot at that time.
@@danielhennessey4282 ah interesting
Lana Del Rey mini movie/video for Ride but her song Get Free is a personal anthem hahahah
Girl you got a golden music community in your comments do you have a Discord channel for us?
you have a very cute voice
Thanks 😁
Saturday Night Live damn near ruined this song for me. 😂 if you know, you know.
Para mim foi um sacrilégio o que fizeram com essa musica. Versão tecno pop? O som original é muito melhor.

@@jareds2273 awesome pick Jared!! I have always loved this song ❤
I have to disagree I prefer this version. The original is great too.
@@Honey-bh2jh I'm always going to come in with a remix or a mashup. Especially when they are this GOOD!
