I was that kid who always envied people who could draw well (my friends were AMAZING) but never made myself learn...until 9 months ago. You don't have to be good at a hobby. You should get good at your profession, but a hobby is supposed to be something you do out of joy, fun and personal growth. Don't compare yourself to a professional who NEEDS to be good. We are way too compatitive nowadays and we seem unable to enjoy activities that we suck at. I say: don't worry about it, just enjoy. You'll probably get better, but if you don't, it's ok. Suck at it with joy. lol

A nice thing to compare your progress is to remake old drawing. I like to do that quite a lot, now that I've been drawing for about 5 years like a hooby. The results are VERY satisfying.

You have the best kind of motivational videos. Oddly enough because they're _not_ the usual kind. The one that aims to invoke emotions with pompous yet vapid big words, which will quickly wear off like an inflated baloon. Instead you have a grumpy, yet unadulterated matter-of-fact approach. It doesn't embellish anything - in fact you'll call the audience out on the excuses. But it also doesn't need to because the reasoning has an intrinsic motivational value that won't wear off.
After watching this video, I realized that it really is a fear of making something ugly or messing up that's keeping me from drawing. Before this I wouldn't have said that I'm afraid to start drawing. And if I end up being even medium-good at it, it would be amazing because I've spent years conditioning myself that I can't draw. And it's not just me, even art teachers when I was small used to tell me my drawing was bad. I mean I was just a 5 year old trying to draw some umbrellas and teddy bears
Now I’m 15 years old and I want to become an artist, too. I was always interested in drawing, but because I thought I wasn’t talented I gave up. This video was in my recommendations and it was exactly what I needed because I saw so many artists who started drawing from a very young age and that discouraged me so much. Thank you for this video! It really helps me a lot! 💖

And i will give you some tips first dont be sceared of making misstakes it is importent to make misstakes becaus by doing them you will see your misstakes and can fix them. A other thinge is draw every day if you want to get rly good at it if you dont feel like it draw It is very importent to be consistent. And dont watch tutorials if you dont execute them after. the last one you feel insperatet right now so you have the feeling you want to do smth but truest be this feeling will go away and you nead to be able to motivate yourself to do art. For animators you nead to learn drawing too. Sry bad enhlish i am not a native speaker
Drawing is the best stress buster I know. I took up drawing three years ago and haven’t looked back. I try and draw every day and I am completely self taught. While drawing I get so focused on what I am doing everything else seems to just melt away. I possibly had a head start through being a photographer, photography taught me how to see which is also vital when drawing.
"I'm never comfortable in the spot i'm in. I want to be better." Those 2 lines are the whole point of a hobby. Never get too comfortable where you are or else you might stop or never improve. Even though I'm way above everyone in drawing in my school, I never get comfortable in the spot I'm in.
I used to know someone who was a "natural" at drawing since she was super young. I noticed that, as time went on, she never changed her art style, and never felt like she needed to move on to different ones. I think she was afraid of the thing new artists are afraid of: being bad, so she never tried to move on and do something new and different.
I've always seen talent as some kind of illusion, like this magic trick everyone is impressed about. But behind that magic there is a complex net of factors, mechanisms, pulls, strings and gears that makes this magic feels "real" and "convincing" in some way. Same with talent. On first hand it looks like magic, but when you see behind you find this complex mechanism determined by a lot of factors: experience, practice, time spended, the pasion and dedication this person has for their particular activity. And, in a psychological matter, is even more fascinating than the "magic" "divine" or "gifted" (or whatever you want to call it) explanation. Talented people are facinating, same with normal people like us. We all are talented in some degree, all you have to do is take control of whatever passion you have, and push it with hard work, practice and most importantly, experience. And, if you don't find your passion yet, just be patient and don't stop searching. I know, is more easy tell things rather than do them. And, specially in the beginning, is even harder. The trick is remain persistent, and continue when you feel like trash and you aren't getting anywhere, just do it for the sake of doing it. Eventually, you will get somewhere if you don't quit.
As a 23 year old who didn't draw much growing up and just looked at other people's art instead like you did, this video appeared in my recommended at perfect timing

I'm 21, used to draw a lot as a kid, but because of school, I dropped out of it. Now I want to go back to drawing, I've lost all of my abilities, I need to learn back from scratch, but I'll try anyway. School really is your enemy when it comes to creativity. Having a lot of homeworks, people laughing at you for what you do, it's not something you can ignore with ease as a kid... I've been studying computers and stuff for almost 6 years now, and I still don't feel like I want to do that for a living, so I'll just try one thing after another until I find something I want to do, being good at it or not. Anyway, all of that to say, thank you for your comment, it gave me a bit of courage to not give up on myself yet. Also great vid, to that guy who made it.

thank u very much for this. i started drawing few months ago and i think this is something i want to do rest of my life, i practice everyday i see progress, but i wasn't sure about things and this video was a great reminder of things
Beautiful video! This is exactly why I love art so much and learning about new things. After I started photographing and learning more about it, I feel like I have a whole new perspective on life. Even when I don't have my camera with me I notice the colors, the lights and the shadows and little details that I wouldn't notice before and everything just becomes more beautiful. This also applies to of course, drawing, cooking, reading or even just learning about other artists. It's truly a shame a lot of adults don't feel like learning anything that won't bring a clear benefit to their life. Once you learn more about things and the process behind it, they have a whole new meaning and you just appreciate life a little more.
I teach my students how to draw different objects. It is good for them to learn. I’ve even had kids who were at first reluctant to try it find out that they are capable of doing it and they find themselves trying to improve. I know this will help them later in life for the reasons you’ve explained. Also the kids get a huge boost of encouragement and nothing makes me happier than to see them realize what they are capable of.
Dive fully into a language and you get it in no time. And with ‘dive’ I mean: Only talk in that language Don’t use your known languages to communicatie Set your phone in that language Watch tv in that language Etc
@@cecillewolters1995 Do I have to know a basic knowledge of the language to "dive" in the language? For example, I want to learn Japanese, I know how to read hiragana and katakana, but I don't know how to read kanji and I only have a basic vocabulary.
I've been drawing for my whole life, so I never really noticed how it changed the way I thought. I've just always thought that way. But after learning a new language, the way I interpret words and the way I solve problems, etc, has changed greatly. I can only guess drawing changes your mind just as much. It's astonishing how much learning new skills changes who you are as a person.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this video was about a whole lot more than just drawing. There are a million and one things from surfing, to Spanish that I want to get good at in my life, and this video explains really well how and why you should get good at them. The only thing that is missing is that you need to find your priorities and focus on those, priorities change over time but focus on the things that are most important in your life right now and disregard everything else.
Started doing pencil portraits of my kids since getting divorced and not being able to see them every day. I’m 33 and never really did any drawing previously. I’m starting to get good enough that the pictures are starting to look like them. It rocks.
Good vid. Well done. I particularly like that you also include the point that your artistic skill development also carries over into your life skill and personal development. I've noticed throughout my life this phenomenom not only applies to art, but any personal interest we pursue that involves extending ourselves, through commitment and over time. I'm 51, and in short, have been drawing since I could hold a pencil. 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain' and 'Drawing on the Artist Within' are two very good resources for anyone who wants to really learn to accurately draw and reproduce what's before you, instead of drawing what your brain tricks you into habitually 'believing' is there. I bought my copies over 30 years ago now, but I'm pretty sure they'd still be around.

I'm 19 and I don't have any skills aside that I can draw something (not by myself tho I need some picture or thing to draw, can't imagine in my head). It's just that I don't want to do anything. I just want to sit or lie down watching anime, RUclips, scrolling Instagram etc.
@@anuragsosa Same here buddy, except I'm 18. But I really want to make manwha comics and animations. I know that lying around watching RUclips will never accomplish my goals.

I don't want to be in my 20s or 30s wishing I could have done what I have time to do now.
"Drawing as a skill" ----Spent a lot of my young life thinking some people were just "gifted" and so why bother. Really great to teach skill development to people, thank you.
Yes it is a skill. I get better with practice for years.
I was that kid who always envied people who could draw well (my friends were AMAZING) but never made myself learn...until 9 months ago. I did my first drawing without references and simply used the image I had in my mind. While the end result wasn’t bad, I knew I could do better. And so I began my art journey, studying everything from human anatomy to color theory and perspective. I did traditional art for a few months before transitioning to digital. Now I draw digitally almost exclusively
I always drawed without reference, I really like to draw literally what I want I thank that's what s so good about drawing.
Here's one of my drawings for example.

I used to know someone who was a "natural" at drawing since she was super young. I noticed that, as time went on, she never changed her art style, and never felt like she needed to move on to different ones. I think she was afraid of the thing new artists are afraid of: being bad, so she never tried to move on and do something new and different.
translation for non artists: she does anime or cartoony stuff because it's easy
These videos always motivate me to continue drawing
For me they always do the exact opposite

I went to school for painting at age 26. Its funny to look back and think how embarassed I was to be an "older" art major. I assumed I was way past the cut off line to start doing art. So glad I decided to face my fears, its also helped me come out of my comfort zone in so many other aspects of my life.

I'm 21, used to draw a lot as a kid, but because of school, I dropped out of it. Now I want to go back to drawing, I've lost all of my abilities, I need to learn back from scratch, but I'll try anyway.

It's astonishing how much learning new skills changes who you are as a person.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn that this video was about a whole lot more than just drawing. Good vid.
