    I agree with your opinion of loop-to- loop connections - They hinge. The nail knot is an improvement, but the needle and super glue method is the best for a delicate, stealthy turnover and especially for dry flies on light lines cast to spooky trout. Nice demonstration George.

    That is how I started doing my leaders about ten years ago, and its brilliant, never a problem. Then I have a 2mm tippet ring attached to the leader and to that I have my tippet. as the tippet wears down all I do is replace the tippet and the leader remains complete attached to the main line. Thank you its a great way to do it, I never liked welded loops or braided loops.
    I also think that loops are a sort of "dumbing down" of the art of fishing, I am all for progress but its not any use if its not really better. I went to a fishery once, when the owner saw my set up, he raised his eyebrows and told me it was the proper way to attach my leaders.
    Again thank you and your video is brilliant, just love content such as this.

    I’ve been fly fishing for about forty years George, and I’ve never seen this method before! You can learn something new every day if you’re open to it. Many thanks, I’ll definitely be trying that this season.

    I used a needle knot for years until braided loops came along. I use a long cast (hate the word leader!) anywhere from 12 -18 feet depending on whether I am fishing river or lake. I fish chalk streams in Germany, big and small alpine rivers where presentation can be more important than the choice of fly! Braided loops haven’t been a problem yet.
    It looks interesting and I will try this on a 2 weight for small streams. I‘d have my doubts about it for sea trout or saltwater fishing. Would you use it for your larger set ups? Love the channel. Tight lines from an Irish man abroad

      I find braided loops to be detrimental to delicate presentation, I use the method in the video for all my flylines, whatever works for you I suppose, thanks for your input Jim.

    Great video. The 2nd dab of glue where the capillary action comes into play, is that at the very end of the fly line or the hole 10mm from the end where the overhand knot is pulled in?

    • @springerspanielful
      @springerspanielful  Год назад +1

      At the end of the flyline, it's absorbed into the flyline thereby forming the bond.

    This is such a brilliant idea and I'm keen to try it. Some videos I've seen on RUclips along this line suggest it will only work on a braided core, I have know idea what the core of my fly line is and am nervous about cutting the loop of and then finding its not a braided core. Will this method work on any core ? 😁😁👍👍

    Hi George,really enjoy your videos,I had a go at the tapered leader super glue connection it's a brilliant job,I was just wondering about the fly end,as the leader gets shorter do you add a small length of tippet material as required and do you keep the tapered leader all season,thanks look forward to your next video.

    How often do you chane the tapered leader throughout the season George? The reason im asking is they can get curley pretty quick after being stored on the reel or do you have a method for getting the curls out of the leader?

    • @springerspanielful
      @springerspanielful  Год назад +1

      I change the leader whenever it gets well worn or too short, where reel memory is concerned some makes are better than others, however a quick pull between finger and thumb will straighten most.

    Brilliant George. Would that hold a big fish? What I normally do is kind of same method, but what I do is I peel a bit of the line so you have a bit of the braid sticking out, put the braid through a very small tipped ring, then with a needle I do the same but I put the braid through the flyline and secure it like that with glue. Last a full season and never had any issues it coming loose on me. 😊

    Top man, good video tis to besure. Is there a make of tapered leader you prefer, also moving down aways what 'X' or diameter of leader do you use and what knot for tippet to leader? Thanks and keep up the great videos.

    • @springerspanielful
      @springerspanielful  Год назад +1

      I like Maxima,and have recently discovered Varivas which I also like,as regards size,I generally reduce diameter as the river fines down mostly 7x,occasionally down to 8x.

    Pre fabricated fly line loops are rubbish.
    You need as seamless a joint as possible.
