I'm sure Kennedy timetraveled to 87 and whispered this in my newborn ear! 😅
haha I was like, 'Whaaat??'
Newborn in 87, lol I saw this tour in 10th grade.
The new Presidential candidate Kennedy has worm brain and kills bear cubs and dumps them in Central Park NYC. No wonder his entire family has disowned him. lol
I was gonna say something but let it go by, haha
How about, “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall….”?
This footage is from my favourite tour, the Snakes & Arrows Tour. Alex always has such wonderful solos, he's so great. Geddy's voice is solid on this tour and Neil's always a powerhouse. So good.
From the Alex solo to the end is just chills the whole time...this is one of many Rush songs that have those moments for 30 to 60 seconds that the emotions kick in, especially live🤘
Rush had so many different phases & directions they went in. Some bands sound the same their whole careers & that's fine but I loved how Rush never stood still. Some directions were more popular than others but if they didn't try then they would never have been the band they were. They really were the epitome of that cliche of being 'true to yourself.'
Love that!
One of my absolute favorite Rush songs. This one, and Marathon from Power Windows were a couple of Rush songs that kept me going through tough times.
Knowing how you love to analyze Neil's lyrics, and how they touch you, I knew you'd really appreciate this song when you got to it.
Neil usually wrote the lyrics, and Geddy and Alex would write the music. That's how the songs usually came together.
The outro guitar solo is one of my favorites
This album also has Time Stand Still, which was probably the most covered song after Neil's death. Many covers on RUclips, The US Army band did a cool cover at the time. (Rush fan since 1977.)
Must check out that song at some point.
@@SaeedReacts. When you reacted to Fountain of Lamneth, you wondered how old they were at the time they wrote it. That's a great question when a band has been making albums for 40 or so years. They were in their early 20's for Fountain, in their mid 30's for Time Stand Still. A lot of growth in between. For a different genre of storytelling, I suggest Marty Robbins's song Big Iron.
This song and Middletown Dreams swap places for #1 pretty often on my list. This kept me sane through my teens and college years. It still keeps me going as an adult too! Not to mention Alex's playing on the verge of teras for that outro solo...
shades of David Gilmour, where the guitar sings FOR him....
One of my all time FAVS!! RUSH just never misses. This album has many great tracks on it, so I hope you explore it further.☮
Such a great song. Definitely want to check out more from this album as well.
Rush does it again. There’s nothing more you can say.
I miss these guys so very much. 🤘🎶💜
I love that Rush is your new Tool. Love seeing these songs connect with the younger crowd
I really like them both. Tool is a bit darker though. I can use some light once in a while 😄
Thank you for reacting to this; one of my favorite Rush songs! The lyrics always especially move me, but the music is amazing, as always. I had always thought the 1988 live version from Birmingham was the best live performance of this song, but this later career version might now be my favorite! It's such a moving song (and I do love Rush's keyboard era). As for writing credits, Rush made the decision early on to always distribute writing credits equally, to avoid the money squabbles that so often break up bands. Or, as Geddy said in an interview, they decided upon equal credit so "they would never have to have that conversation again.' If only more bands would follow their example! (Incidentally, 1987 was a special year for me, too; I was 10 years old and got my own personal portable radio and discovered the Top 40!) :)
Its an amazing song. Thanks for letting me know about the writing credits.
And for sharing your story about your own portable radio. That is a great memory to cherish .
I saw them twice on this tour. Incidentally, the Hold Your Fire tour is the first time I saw them in concert. February 1988 in Jacksonville. I never heard of them before going to that show. They have been my #1, my go to, and the soundtrack to one wild adventure of a life.
I saw Rush live for the first time on their Presto tour, which they released after Hold Your Fire. They played a few songs from HYF as well as older and new material. Met Center in Bloomington MN 1989 I believe. Seats were far from the stage, but it was awesome. Went to Roll the Bones and Counterparts concerts as well. Counterparts was floor seats 15 rows back, so had a clear view of the band.
This is such a great album. I saw Rush for the first time on the Hold Your Fire tour. My friend had an extra ticket. I left that show a Rush fan for life. 15 to 51. Wow.😎🙃
Thats awesome! Great friend!
You never cease to amaze me, the way you can delve into these lyrics, and break them down, giving your analysis of the meaning of what is being said, and be so on point. Kudos, Saeed and thank you for a great reaction 😊
Thanks so much for the kind words, Deborah ❤️
Typically Neil writes the lyrics and Geddy and Alex write the music. Early on in their careers they decide they would split all royalties equally among the three of them. Just another reason they were able to stay together for over 40 yrs.
Another great song to check out is Marathon. A song with deep lyrics and great music, as always.
Simply 3 geniuses on stage at the same time.
This tour (Snakes & Arrows) was the 10th time I'd seen Rush live. I caught the tour in San Antonio, TX. This song is absolutely gorgeous (as is most of the very underrated Hold Your Fire album). Every time I see one of the later Rush songs live, I can't help but crack up over whatever random piece of something Geddy has behind him onstage to offset Alex's stack of amps on the other side. For this tour, it was a bunch of rotisserie chickens, tended by a stage hand in a gorilla suit at random intervals during the show. Loved their senses of humor, miss them being up there SO much. Rush remains my favorite band of all time...
1987, Kennedy was killed 23 years prior. I'm from Dallas, born in '63. Two months and 4 days when it happened.
Right! My mistake 😅
I’m always excited to see a musician find Rush, but it’s equally satisfying to see someone who appreciates the art of writing discover them as well. Neil is a keen observer of humanity. Try the song Territories for another great 80’s tune.
He definitely was a great observer and knew how to put it onto the page. Thanks for the recommendation!
I was 16 when I saw Rush live on this tour. They played almost every song on the album. Absolutely fire. How do you pick a favorite song when they’re all so good?!
Thats is a good question 😅
Glad to have a writer reflect on these lyrics. Love the chickens as well.
Incredible writing in all these songs. Its a masterclass going through these.
@@SaeedReacts. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters & Nirvana at their induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame said " When did listening to Rush become cool?" Or something like that
My favorite off the album Open Secrets beautiful song. I've been a Rush fan since 1983. I was just 9 years old when I heard Tom Swayer on my dads radio in the car, l said to myself I just have to have the cassette tape and found out later the album was Moving Pictures. Ever since then, they have taken me on a journey all these years. I got the chance to see them once in July of 2013, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, something I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thanks for your awesome reactions to Rush, and keep them coming
Thanks for sharing that. Awesome you got to see them!
Hold Your Fire is a great album. Not everyone likes it, some feel it's still too much synthisizer, but for me, it just *works* I think you'd particularly enjoy Second Nature, and Prime Mover.
I love your reactions. You really get Rush! The writing credit is usually all three because Neil wrote the lyrics, but Alex and Geddy wrote the music. They shared the money equally because they wanted to minimize any potential conflicts. They are a band others should emulate if they want long and happy careers without the normal pitfalls that come with the music industry 😮❤
Thanks so much for letting me know about that. Even more reasons to love Rush.
one of the things i always liekd about Alex Lifeson is how he plays rythm instead of hot dogging, their arrangements are built around the song, the lyrics, the singer.
Grandioso tema de los mejores !!!
I saw this show in Tampa,Fl. It was awesome, as always. But my favorite was the Test for Echo tour because they played all of 2112. Not just Overture & Temples of Syrinx. And I believe it was their first tour that was called an evening with RUSH.No opening band just them playing for like 3 hrs. It was totally badass!
1987, DAMN that be a LOONNNGGGG time ago. I saw that tour(3rd time/tour seeing them) and at least once every tour there after till the last. 1984-2015🤘🖖✌️🎸🥁🎹🎤
Saeed, Mission Live incredible. 🔥1988 version. If you want to hear this beautiful song twice. Another great song Lock & Key on Hold Your Fire. I saw the Snakes & Arrows tour in New Jersey USA July 2007. One of my favorite solo's from Alex.
Amazing song. Thanks for the recommendations!
I remember when I bought this album ... bought it 'blind' and had favorites on the first listen ... the rest had to grow on me - this one was an instant winner. I also appreciated 'Prime Mover.'
As long as you are controlling the addiction, not the other way around, where's the problem??
I think that Neil's lyrics here perfectly capture what makes introverts like himself and me so special: while extroverts are mainly driven to seek external validation, our motivation mainly comes from inside of us; and although Alex is commonly thought of as an extrovert, his feelings are introverted, as his passionate guitar lines here beautifully exemplify. For another performance taken from Hold Your Fire that you may like, I recommend Force Ten from A Show Of Hands. Have a great evening, and Rush on!
🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🐐 🐐 🐐
Got to see them many, many times, the live show was an experience.
Thats awesome!
I wish i could have seen them live.
Thanks so much for posting this reaction. I am a huge Rush fan, and I have never heard this song. And to see it live, Awesome. And to see the Professor, Mr. Niel Peart working his magic on the drum kit. Wow. I need to listen to this song a few hundred more times.
I was getting a video delay on this one. You hear it, then you see it. The human brain can work better the other way around better (seeing it then hearing it), That’s because the speed of light is faster then the speed of sound. The human brain can deal with this when watching (for example) a car door slam as a distance. All PC’s phones, tablets etc. need a knob to adjust this annoying issue with Video/Sound sync. Maybe they got it wrong on the 4K re-master, maybe it’s just my setup I have here. Sorry for the off-topic digression.
Its a great song! And always great to see how they do these songs live.
There might have been a bit of a delay. I didnt really notice it myself.
@@SaeedReacts. I probably notice it because I'm an amature drummer. And I see what Niel is doing on the kit. And when there is a time delay, I notice.
Neil's lyrics really matured over their history, along with their playing. Many fans reacted poorly to Hold Your Fire but I think there are some real gems on that album that actually sound better live!
Marathon live from the Hold Your Fire tour has lyrics on a similar theme and the playing is amazing as always
This was the last tour I saw from Rush but what a great show!!!🙏🔥🤘🏻
Another great reaction Saeed. Belgique, mon dieu, si vous parlez Anglais, Francais et Deutsche et Flemish je suppose. Your command of English is incredible. My wife is tri-lingual (French, Spanish, English). Not sure what impresses me more about you now, your love of Rush or your language ability. Very impressive mon amie.
Thanks so much.
Flemish, English and French (not as fluent) i speak. I know a bit of German, but not that much. And also Urdu.
Another amazing song by Rush!
cool version,,,,sound very good,,,,🤘🤘🤘
I always think money holds me back, but then I think about Rush's early days. They were making $40 bucks a month sometimes, couch surfing and sleeping in their cars. Talk about drive, perseverance and hard work, wow!
Great way of looking at it.
I see that you are a fan of Rush's story telling. I wanted to inform you that the drummer, Mr. Niel Peart (also known as the professor) wrote most of the lyrics for Rush’s songs. (although Getty and Alix contributed to them to smooth out the feel of the song while in production)
I love their storytelling. Neil is a great writer.
Loved his book Ghost Rider as well.
I might be missing a joke in the intro, but Kennedy had been dead for at least 23 years in 1987.
This is an incredible song from one of, if not their most underrated/underappreciated albums.
My integrated computerchip gave me the wrong information .
Great song!
Neil's mind was a busy and beautiful place.
Indeed!
Nice to see you again
Thanks for being here!
Great reaction Saeed. Had a good laugh about your pinned comment. I love 80's music. Simply have to love your channel. Greetings from South Africa
Sorry just had to add; my passion was in my police career and people, now after retiring it is about caring for people
Thanks so much! 😄
It seems your life is based around helping people. Thats a beautiful way to live and We need more people like you ❤️
Love your reactions and insight! Thanks for all you do. Keep the spark alive!
Thanks so much! ❤️
Usually Geddy and Alex wrote the music and Neil would write the lyrics. Thank you!🤘🎸
Great song. Thanks for watching.
More RUSH please! Deep, deep catalog my friend!
New subscriber 😊
Been enjoying the Rush journey. Such an incredible band. And the storytelling is next level!
Thanks for subscribing
Neil was obviously facing some sort of existential crisis when he wrote this.
Then again that was sort of his modus operandi
excellent reaction. thumbs up!!!.......try THE CAMERA EYE....from RUSH
Thanks so much!
Check out RUSH warpaint (live) 1990 Presto tour.
Thanks for the recommendation!
you need to be there the keys just vibrate your whole body.
Well hold your fire, and power Windows were a heavy synthesizer album songs on those 2 albums, even though they are good songs, us die hard Rush fans disliked it somewhat but not completely.
🤘🔥🤟
MASTERS of melody. For some reason, Hold Your Fire receives a lot of criticism and perhaps considered their "worst" album (along with Test for Echo). But I don;t know why. Maybe because it has Tai Shan on it, but that's not a bad song, just maybe irrelevant to most people. Hold Your Fire has Turn the Page, Mission, Prime Mover, Force Ten, Second Nature (as well as Time Stand Still, which many people love, but I am not enthused about)
I did not know that. And maybe thats better 😄
I enjoyed this and definitely want to hear more of this album.
@@SaeedReacts. Well, what most people think is irrelevant, isn't it? I like this album, but also Caress of Steel almost sunk the band early on, but it's my 3rd fav Rush album. I've always said, if Caress came out after 2112, Kings, and Hemispheres it would have been a huge hit.
Here is an OG version from the 80s. I prefer Geddy's voice in the 80s and 90s, although this one isn't bad. ruclips.net/video/RRrZWUtzJOY/видео.html
