    There are 2 distinct Centauro: the B1 and the B2, completely different beast except for the name and with very little in common. Both the Hull and the turret are different, with different engine, transmission and gun calibre.
    The B1 is now out of production while the B2 is entering service both in Italy and Brazil.

    The USMC should purchase the Centauro 2 since letting go of the Abrams if not then the new ACV should have a dedicated FSV variant to recover some if that capability left vacant by the Abrams departure. The Centauro 2 will be a better platform since it was created to be that beast of an FSV.

    #3 - It's Patria AMV, Armoured Modular Vehicle (which is the original Finnish version) and AMV XP is Patria's flagship model. The most heavily armed variant is Fire Support Vehicle which is fitted with a Leonardo’s HITFACT 1 turret, and armed with a 120/L45 mm smoothbore gun (as seen in this video's thumbnail image).
    Poland bought ~700 Patria AMV's in 2002 under license, KTO Rosomak is a Polish licensed variant of the Patria AMV. The most heavily armed variant of KTO Rosomak is called WWO Wilk (Wóz Wsparcia Ogniowego = Fire Support Vehicle), which is generally referred to as ‘Wilk’ (Wolf).

    Built specifically for the hot climes and rough (and soft sands on occasion) terrain of Africa, but no buyers interested.

      @@robert-trading-as-Bob69 yeah they are a little overpriced for what they're offering. They should look into the DF90 that the Belgians are moving from or the French ER90 or AMX 10R

    • @robert-trading-as-Bob69
      @robert-trading-as-Bob69 4 месяца назад

      @@bennuredjedi The Japanese MCV would suit the Philippines though, in that the Japanese also have damned hot summers, the vehicle would be more suited to the climate and marshy terrain. I'm not sure about the Belgians strengths there. The French are more used to operating in hot climes and terrains as well.
      The Rooikat would be, possibly, the cheaper choice, and used to hot climates too. It was designed to operate in the very soft sand of Angola and Namibia in hot or wet seasons over long ranges, so should be capable of monsoon ravaged mud roads.
      If your country is more jungle than open fields, what use is a 105mm cannon in close quarters?
      The 76mm armed Rooikat might prove faster in this scenario, carrying more ammo too.
      The SADF found most of their armoured clashes in Angola were short-range affairs, and only the superior training of its troops helped keep the Olifant 105mm from being overwhelmed, hence my argument against 105mm armed vehicles in overgrown country.
      I will admit I am biased to a degree, being South African.
      I served in School of Armour as a clerk for the training team of the Rooikat.
      I once inspected the 2 or 3 T-54/55's that the Olifant tanks took out. They were brought back to SA for study.
      All the enemy tanks were destroyed at such close range by APFSDS rounds, that the sabot had barely separated from the tungsten dart and dug ± 2.5 to 4 cm (1 to 2 inches) gouges into the turrets around the darts entry point.
      (Incidentally, Major Rudman was the squadron commander and commanded his own tank during that battle... and he chewed garlic like it was chewing gum. From the second story of our offices you could immediately smell his breath when he entered the ground floor.
      If you're American, that's a 3 story building, but elsewhere it's only 2 stories.
      Now imagine being in a tank with him!)

    Funny how absolutely backwards thinking the US Army is, they've always needed that capability ever since they adopted the Stryker as a Rapid deployment type platform, but they should have went with the LAV 600 series in that role that had a dedicated FSV variant with a 105mm and if they knew they wasn't going to aquire the 600 they should have incorporated the Stingray turret the 600 used for the Stryker MGS variant, a common sense move instead of going with the turret from the Expeditionary tank concept ( now that turret will fit well as a FSV variant of the AMVP) the Stryker should have come base line with a 25mm turret or RWS ideally the Army could have made it to where the Bradley turret could have been adopted to fit the Stryker that way extra costs would have been reduced and Stryker Brigades would have been more lethal as they would have the same exact armaments as the Bradley sharing parts ammunition and upgrades (that 25mm and TOW combo is a lethal punch) Now it need to be replaced with a platform that have dedicated variants that makes sense an IFV variant equipped with 30-50mm turret with atgm's a FSV variant with the Ares turret or 105mm turret (to include atgms)a traditional apc variant with a 20mm rws combo turret to include a aaws (Carl Gustav or the like) plus the other traditional variants an anti tank variant will be optional since the first three variants will all have anti tank weapons (distributed lethality) what vehicle can fit that need is up for grabs, the LAV 700 Patria XP or a new build platform and it must be capable of performing amphibious operations (the Army must get that capability back again, regaining their Expeditionary capacity once more like they had during WW2 having both Airborne and amphibious capabilites, fully Expeditionary Divisions Brigades or Regiments) thoughts?

    • @Leptospirosi
      @Leptospirosi Год назад

      The Stryker is a mess: just check that "Home air conditioner" hanged out on a side. The idea of having a single adaptable platform is sensible but can only go so far. You canno simply adopt a tank turret ona armoured transport vehicle and call the day: you either go with an infantry support vehicle or you go with a tank destroyer hull properly low on the ground and fully fitted for the role. Of all the strikers the 105mm is the worst by design!

    • @bennuredjedi
      @bennuredjedi Год назад

      Agreed! The MIC always pimp the Army into purchasing sub par or over expensive equipment (with a few exceptions) they care more for the profit of the design and performance rather than the actual performance goals of that platform, just think the Army chose the lesser of the two MPF platforms, why? The Army originally requested for the MPF to be Expeditionary in its role (deployable from aircraft) to better accommodate both Airborne and traditional light Infantry Divisions, then all of a sudden that requirement was not needed, but the reality for that capability is still needed per the Army,smh. The Army had and have plenty of contenders for a wheeled MGS/FSV (Patria XP Centauro 2 Pirahana V or LAV 700) all are built to be dedicated GSV/MGS platforms sporting either a 105mm or 120mm weapon (primary) with a secondary 20mm RWS or 12.7mm/aaws combo RWS, funny how Abrams X have that setup in spades. The Army leadership really need to look at their needs and stick with it for example the 50mm requirement for the OMFV to replace the Bradley IFV ,funny how the 50mm becomes a 30 or 35mm ,just stick with the 50mm and build around it and evolve it moving forward.

      the centauro II has a better gun and protection,both vehicles are good but they were designed with different needs,the type 16 needs to be easy to transport by air since japan has got a lot of small islands to defend,so it is lighter,italy doesnt have this issue and built the centauro with different requirements so the 120/44 autoloaded gun to engage even modern tanks,ammo stored in separate compartments with blowup panels to defend the crew and very good mine protection,plus protection against rounds of up to 40mm on the front.The centauro II weighs a lot more than the type 16,because it was built with diffrent needs in mind
