@@lisandromartinez. You confirmed the point of the original comment. GSP lost a fight, and came back stronger. He didn't lose his soul to another fighter, he got better. Conor lost to Khabib in more than just the octagon. Khabib took Conor's will to be a champion. I won't say Khabib took Conor's will to be a winner, because we can clearly see that even though Conor did win fights and belts, he was never truly a winner, just a flash in the pan. I believe the saying is accurate: money won't change who you are, it will just show the world who you truly are inside. The world now sees how ugly Conor is inside.

      I couldn't disagree more.
First, in full disclosure I think he is an insufferable Irish prick, but . . .
He was way ahead of his contemporaries with his striking. Yes, the world has caught up to him, but he pushed the envelope.
The quality of UFC striking has greatly improved since him.
He was one of the first 2 weight division champions, which is now a goal frequently expressed by rising fighters. He showed the way.
He captured the world's imagination with statements about precision beats strength, and timing beats speed. That was Bruce Lee level stuff.
He broke free of the UFC management and made his own deals, became fabulously wealthy, he wasn't afraid to lose.
The UFC didn't make him a star. HE did that.
He was, is, and for some time will continue to be an inspiration for fighters whether they admit it or not.
He was an original, mad Picasso like genius that burned out once the wealth took hold.

But there is NOTHING like Khabib, and now with Islam?! We have never seen such a complete fighter before or since. His English is shit, so the plebs will never really give him his flowers. But the die hards that eat, sleep, and breath combat sports?! They get it.. They know the greatness they are witnessing.
IMHO.. This is why Daddy Dana hasn't let Islam go up. He KNOWs that Islam will win the next weight class up.. Hell, we could make a strong, REALLY STRONG argument that he could go up two weight classes.. He could very well be the fist living 3 division Champion.. But that's not good for business.. So Dana will never have that. Just the same though.. Connor is a Dinosaur now. IDK why guys still blow this man..

Anyone in the top ten at 170 makes him look like a guy off the street now. Really not a Conor hater but let's be real. His trick back in the day 2016 or so was being a weight bully. Starve and dehydrated himself into a skeleton then beat up guys like Aldo. Those days are long, long gone.
It is over for Conor unless the FIX is in via corrupted judges vs Chandler. That is the ONLY reason I will not be betting on their fight IF it happens.

If there are lessons to be learned here, it's not about what you have, it's not about lauding what you have to people who have nothing. It's about how to be a decent human being. It's about staying humble. He might say that he's glad he's gone cuckoo, but having your sanity is more important than wealth. Khabib shattered the illusion that McGregor created for himself, he thought he was invincible. To suddenly learn that you are not, is a huge shock to a person's psyche, similar to a near death experience. If wealth turns you into an asshole, then you have learned nothing. Be grateful for what you have, treat others with respect. I thought McGregor's behaviour was an act until he did what he did to Khabib's bus. I was a big fan of his but he went too far. If you do drugs and have an underlying mental issue, this can happen. Success in isn't everything, it's how you deal with it that counts. Some people, when they have unlimited money, can take it to excess and clearly this is Conor.

  • @steve10

I enjoyed the ride , he spoke a good game , came up with one of the best put downs in a press conference ever "who the f** is that guy" , its hard not to get excited when someone is good on the mic and good in the cage.
I used to really enjoy the fights , the whole thing with throwing the trolley at the bus became very
WWE but it was all part of it.
Then he goes and does something you do when your career is over, star in a pantomime crossover that was farcical and pointless, it earned him 100 million and that's the downfall, once you turn up to a press conference drunk against the best in the division you know its gone to your head , offering a Muslim a drink was one of the reasons Khabib enjoyed that victory.
The first loss to Diaz showed he wasn't this pound for pound fighter , he was basically a hard punch and a low threshold in stamina, through his career he gassed in the second or third rounds meaning if he couldn't finish a fight then he became easy to beat in the championship rounds.
I dont think he was a great fighter , but its hard not to give him credit as one of the biggest characters , the red panty line , his vince mcmahon walk were all classic bits of his character.
What stopped me liking him though was the sly punch of an old bloke in a bar , his ridiculous comments about dustins partner as he was sitting with a broken leg.
In fact him sitting down after being stopped looking up at the person who beat him is hard to to forget.
A likeable "character" in the ufc with great hype chat on the mic , but not a likeable person outside of it.
Had he walked away when he broke his leg then he goes into the hall of fame , but a drunk , drug addict continues to stalk the UFC fans with absolute nonsense of fighting again, Chandler must be kicking himself , but I dont feel sorry for him , he should have got on with his career to get a title shot , not chance the red panties fight for money.
Anyone still thinking Mcgregor fights again is deluded.

I reckon it began when Connor took that break after beating Alvarez to be with his family.
As he stated himself, he had realized his worth, and that he and his family were set for life. From there on it was all about money, having fun, more money, and ego masquerading as fighting spirit. Which I think probably left him the day he basically openly told the world that he didn't need it anymore.

I was actually sad when they announced Mayweather Vs Mcgregor and thought back then "Ohh no! He's never going to be hungry or the same again." He was bouncing elite Champions like Aldo and Alvarez around the octagon and destroying them when he was hungry. Then after 3 years of partying he didn't even come back for a warm up fight, instead he took on Khabib after 3 years of inactivity and while drinking hard alcohol and doing who knows what other drugs...meanwhile Khabib didn't drink or drug and was still hungry. I would have liked to see a 2015-2016 hungry and obsessed Mcgregor face Khabib a lot more. But what other MMA fighter has accomplished everything Conor has in his career?? Nobody...thats who. 2 belt world champion simultaneously, Boxed boxings king for 100 million, Built up Proper 12 and sold it for 150 million, became the most popular mma fighter..EVER, starred in Roadhouse the remake, has a net worth of somewhere between 3-500 million dollars, brought MMA into people's living rooms who didn't know anything about UFC, On the Burger King commercial, and on and on. He's had his problems, but you gotta give credit where its due. I'll say this.."My 70 year old mom(RIP, she died last year) didn't know a damn thing about the UFC..But she new who Conor Mcgregor is!!" (And Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm. I used to bring my mom and brother to the local sports bar to watch Conor and Ronda fight and I loved seeing a 67-69 year old mom rooting for them and enjoying herself.)
