I ask once again, what about his hearing. Are his ears okay? I had an explosives accident and really struggle ever since with hearing and balance. Please tell me.
@@Marauder1981Oh. I guess they forgot how entitled you are to his medical information. Maybe ask again later if you don't get a response? That or draw your own conclusions.
Note to self, if you have ballistics in your channel name you are more likely to have a life changing moment via explosion. So glad he's recovering and being open to sharing this. Dudes a straight badass. He should get a gundie award on principle alone.
If I had a nickel for every time that happened, I’d have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice… But seriously, I’m glad both times they were ok…
The fact he is alive after that, and is able to still smile and joke around a little about it even while seeing it happen is really something. That is one hell of a story to tell for the rest of his life.
@@brandonUwanawich954 so explain children dying of cancer or guns or sadistic parents and tell me again about Jesus and God's master plan for all. This was not religious in ANY WAY. It was ballistics. That is why you are here anyway, right? Sry, I just get a bit heated when people bring my God into it when dealing with things that were solely meant to kill.......
A little late to the story, but I'm a paramedic working in rural Midwest where recreational explosives are a thing. This video is now being used for education in our company for prehospital providers. Glad you're on the mend. Stay strong.
high-speed footage like this must be so incredibly helpful towards understanding injury. unfortunate mishap, but that's awesome that it's being used for good.
As an EMT, I wanted to offer a little perspective about brain injuries. Usually people don’t remember the next 5 or so minutes after an accident, depending on how bad the injury is. This is called a “postictal state” and it also happens after seizures. You go on autopilot so effectively that your brain speaks and moves for you without remembering any of it. Some people become aggressive or vocal, and most are confused and dazed. Honestly I’m surprised he could effectively recall the first aid kit’s location. It’s also normal for anybody with a traumatic injury to drift off and become spaced out while we’re treating them. I’m not sure of the biological reason, but I see it often enough to know it’s not a bad sign. You can also see that he tenses up right after being knocked unconscious. The hands and legs straightening out is called “fencing” or “the fencing position” and it’s believed to be a response to protect the body from further damage. You were also correct in assuming certain things (like facial expression and hand position) are too intricate for the brain to control after such a hard shock, so they freeze in place.
Well you won't remember the next couple of minutes but shouldn't it be possible for your brain to still be able to function semi-normally, of course not entirely normally but like you said you kinda go on autopilot for a while so recalling locations of specific things necessary in that situation doesn't seem like it's that weird.
@@Z38_USespecially since he probably thinks about where the first aid kit is a lot being he has firearms and shit. It’s probably an autopilot response to say where the kit is.
Its a testament to his training, and how he's obviously tough without remembering he was ready to start rendering first aid on himself and whoever needed it.
I'm sure there's a Chuck Noris-esk joke about that for him.... I kinda expect that's what's going to happen to the dude. Basically the new Texas Ranger.
Going frame by frame after the trigger pull the projectile never moved. I'm very curious of this initial blast out of the far side of the middle of the launcher. Then after this huge flame encapsulating his you can see a glimpse of the rocket clearing the end of the launcher. Hun?@@apexkilla
As a medical first responder of 13yrs, you guys should consider sending this to the medical professionals at the hospital and the first responders' organization that responded. This would make for a FANTASTIC training video to talk about treatments. As tough as it is, this is incredible and valuable footage that would make for some fun scenarios to talk through and even recreate using dummies and what not.
Not trying to downplay how lucky Adam was, but I would highly suggest that you watch Kentucky Ballistics accident with his 50bmg blowing up in his face, ripping his jugular vein. He miraculously managed to stay conscious by literally showing his thumb into his neck and applying pressure for like 30 mins before he got medical aid.
Yesterday my disabled sister was hit by a car while crossing the street coming back home. We had open windows and we heard a crash and then her one long cry. Me, my dad and my mom jumped into shoes and ran there in about a minute. She was unconcious but breathing. She was moving her eyes weirdly and making weird sounds. My mom was understandably panicking. Your video and analitical approach that I somehow remembered helped me stay relatively calm because I knew what her symptoms meant and that they were natural shock response and meant that things aren't as bad as they might seem. I could also calm my mom down. It was terrifying but would be much more terrifying if I didn't know what was happening. I wanted to thank you and let you know it was really helpful that you uploaded and analysed the situation.
@1nfamyX Thanks for asking, her legs have been broken so they needed an operation. Fortunately no other injuries, no tumors, no spine or brain damage etc. which is especially fortunate considering we found her 15 meters from the crosswalk. She is mentally coming back, though very slowly (due to anaesthesia). It seems she will be able to try to stand on her own legs in about 2 months and then go back to rehabilitation. She used to be very active, did a lot of exercise and has a very strong body (except legs, she was walking with crutches), similarly as Adam. I think all the work she did earlier saved her a couple of bones and a big part of her health. When the guys rewatch the video and say "Wouldn't you think it would kill a person?" I think thats the point. It definitely might have killed, but happened to a person that wasted no time and worked very hard to make themselves strong. Take care of yourself guys, exercise. It really might save your life.
The fact that he’s still alive makes me so happy, like I never saw your Chanel or watched a video of you. And even this video is like 11 months old, I don’t care I’m so happy❤
As a combat medic who's deployed and treaded injuries like these, I got really emotional watching this. It brought memories of me treating similar injury with very different outcomes. Thank God you're ok.
i cant even imagine...sorry you had to go through that shit man, stay strong and live for the ones who cant❤ik this can be a rough time of year for people so remember to lean on your friends and family when you need it, ill be praying for you, and have a merry christmas! 🙏
Your injured vets didn't go out of their way to hurt themselves did they? Mate I've lived around ppl who have ended up in chairs for the rest of their lives through a sip from that cup of chance, this isn't worthy of your consideration. And that's all stated with absolute respect to your sacrifices and theirs
The thing that makes explosions lethal is when they're properly contained. No pressure build up = No energy. A majority of the boom (from the 70-80 or so grams of gunpowder that makes up the booster charge) went out the back (as per recoilless rifle design) and the rest saw uninterrupted expansion after the tube disassembled. The mass of his limb being in the way and his armor flying off likely absorbed enough energy to prevent serious lung injuries but the head wasn't as lucky, hence the brain injury.
I foresee this content becoming training footage for both EMT's and weapon's handlers in the future. This is very important information. From the blackout and loss of memory to the actions afterwards. Glad you are still with us man
I and a couple others just got our EMT over the summer and you better believe we‘ll be reviewing this footage on shift as a class. Dudes super lucky to be alive and with his full face and hands intact. I’ve seen much less cause much worse harm.
I work in TacMed training and EMT. I believe this is a heck of a training video. Adam giving directions for his trauma bag, trying to self aid after all that is an absolute beast of a human. You can tell he has been trained because he doesnt remember that even. Brain went to autopilot of self aid and helping. Even giving NKA, No medical conditions, etc. Thank God he had on plates of chest trauma would have been way worse. I'm shocked he didn't have any fragments enter the chest cavity or a collapsed lung.
Glad to see Adam is doing well. As a IED survivor this was a powerful and important video. Thank for sharing your experience, just a reminder to take nothing for granted.
How you and Scott from Kentucky Ballistics survived, is beyond me. But I'm glad in both instances you survived, and your recovery is going smoothly and quickly.
It’s interesting and impressive how the brain protects itself from trauma. You can see that the people who witnessed the incident seem more traumatized than he is because they remember everything. Whereas thankfully he does not. Extremely lucky to still be alive after something like this.
Memories is one thing the brain will purge when it's been traumatized. Recently I fell down the stairs to the basement and I hit my head quite bad ton the concrete floor when I landed, or at least that's what we think happened. I remember starting to walk up the stairs, my next memory is looking up and realizing I'm not at home but in a hospital. Between these memories are about two weeks I can't remember anything from. Four days after I had fallen a friend came by as I hadn't answered the phone or been logged online. He managed to get in the house, which included finding and calling my sister who they had never met and only knew the first name off. There he found me on the upper floor lying in the door to the bedroom wrapped up in a bedcover. So I obviously had crawled up the stairs and into the bedroom where I pulled down the bedcover and rolled into it. He says I looked at him but I didn't answer or try to talk. So he called the ambulance and they got me to the emergency center. There they found that I had cracks in the skull, a broken collar bone, bleeding in the brain and blood cloths in the veins leading up to the head. But I lived. Then I spent more than a week before I suddenly woke up and was conscious. Before that I spoke in several languages, but mostly English which was a good thing as I only know two languages, my native tunge being Swedish and having learned English.in school. The French, German and whatever they thought I tried to use was just throwing out weird sounds like a kid playing at speaking a foreign language. Personally I have no memories of any of that. The full damage list included loosing hearing on my right ear as the cracks in the skull had ripped the nerves going to the ear off. I can still feel touches to the outer ear, but hearing and balance is totally severed. Other than that I got some problems with my language memory, I forget words. Or rather I know the word I want to use, but I can't remember how to say it or exactly what it is. I discovered that when discussing cortison with a doctor. I just couldn't get the word though I really knew what it was. The first time I managed to describe the effects of it and a once well know person who had used it to the degree that he got problems from it. Later I figured out that I had no problem saying hydro cortison, so I just thought that and cut out the hydro part and I got the word. Other than that I'm mostly recovered with intact memories of all of my life, but those two weeks, oh and a day lost to alcohol ten or twenty years back...
@@blahorgaslisk7763 wow, what a terrifying injury. I’m glad you were found and it’s probably for the best that you don’t recall much from that time. I’m sorry you had so many injuries and after effects, I’m glad you’re doing better now though. It’s amazing how resilient we can be.
@@batacumba Yes sometimes we are incredibly resilient, and at other times something simple can cause terrible results. In my case I'm back on my legs, though with so bad sense of balance that I use a rollator when walking outside. Mean while a previous coworker had a bleeding in his brain when out walking. The lucky part was that the man taking his dog for a walk that saw him fall to the ground was a doctor with neurological specialization so he got very good care and had a good contact with this doctor. The bad thing was his memory was damaged and it was continuously growing worse. The doctor said that unfortunately it wouldn't stop or get better, ever. No he was doomed to loosing more and more of his memories for as long as he stayed alive. No attempt to hope for anything better. Raw but also totally fair by the doctor. I spent a month at part of the hospital where they worked with helping people with brain injuries to prepare for life with a disability. One of the patients there I called the Five Minute Man. He had a short term memory that was a bit more than five minutes long. Every day he discovered he was in a hospital and got anxious as tomorrow he had to be in Madrid where he would meet some customers. This was the start of every day for him the month I was there, and he had been there for three months before that. He was nice to talk to as long as you didn't expect him to remember talking to you before that. He had been hit when stepping out of his car after parking. The driver that hit him just stepped on the gas and disappeared leaving him on the road. As it happened in the middle of the city a lot of people were there and called for ambulance and the police so he got care almost immediately. Yet he got damage bad enough he couldn't form new long term memory and short term memories just got lost after five to ten minutes. And over the months he had been there it had only gotten worse and the doctors said it would continue to deteriorate even faster. So yes, I know I'm lucky. It just doesn't feel like that when I'm about to fall over if I look around to quickly and have to bring out the rollator when walking to the store. In my mind a rollator is still something that only really old people need. So having to use it feels wrong. I just have to think of how lucky I was that my friend managed to find the phone number to my sister so he could find the spare key and get in the house to find me. If he hadn't done that I would have died on the floor in a few more days.
While you are right that your brain can make you forget traumatic events in order to psychologically protect you, thats not what happened here. His memory loss here is due to the head trauma
I had a HORRIBLE car accident a few years ago. I needed 14 staples to the back of my head. To this day I dont remember it at all. Only being in the car, large gap, then suddenly I was in a helicopter. The brain absolutely protects itself from trauma. I would probably have a hard time driving after that accident but because I dont remember it at all, I am, for the most part, fine and able to drive without thinking too much about the accident
Holy shit. Former FF/EMT here. The fact that you survived this and also with minimal blast trauma to the face is unbelievable. You are a lucky man and your guardian angel was working OT that day. Heres to as quick a recovery as possible.
Seriously bro. FF/EMT as well. If he would have had his hand in maybe just a little different position he would've lost fingers. Surprised he didnt have shrapnel in his face or neck. Its almost a miracle he wasnt permanently disfigured or more seriously injured.
Showed the video to my dad, a combat medic who served in Afghanistan, he said that you are so lucky to be alive and to have friends who were quick to act, I honestly believe that your safety equipment and just your physical health were both contributors To your survival
The fact the leg buckles underneath him and suddenly straightens out is a good indicator he was unconscious. I am glad you are recovering, seeing this similar, freak, accident happen to Kentucky was crazy as well. I'm glad two of my many favorite firearms enthusiasts and educators are still around to give us the education we want
Holy sh!t... The blurred version was already wild, but now seeing this uncensored in slowmotion makes the fact that you survived this is even more wild. AND still having both eyes and all 10 fingers? Almost unbelievable. Incredibly lucky in an incredibly unlucky situation. Mad respect to you and a hopefully fast and well-going recovery!
ive seen worse injurys with fireworks, seeing a rpg blow up in someone's face and "only a few burns" on his arms after a few weeks is someone telling its not his time yet
I’m probably dehydrated only means “there is so much wrong with me that I don’t know yet and I am just stating the only common condition which is easily treatable on site.” What a badass for thinking this right away though, man

That's one hell of a life story to tell in the future. With all the bad things that were caused, this whole video, of someone reacting to their own accident with explosives, this is SO baddass. Thank god you are recovering and were not fataly injured.
Can’t express how impressed I am with the way Adam responded. The amount of hard work to become that well trained. Calling out for supplies and instructing your own triage after suffering a case of explosion is about as hardcore as it gets.
i had a popper explode in my hands (it already went off and still it exploded) and it hurt like f*ck, i can imagine how numb your limbs must have felt bless you.
I was an Air Force medic, and I saw even in your time of simi-unconsciousness your training kicked in. I am so very glad you are still here with us healing and still doing the things you love.
The fact that even after getting essentially blown up and regaining consciousness, Adam still had the instinct to tell someone to grab his medbag, what yo get from it, and how to use it, is amazing. Glad to see him on the road to recovery.
It was a failure of the rocket motor and/or booster fuel section (an uncontrolled explosion), not the grenade going off. There would be pieces of him spread around if the grenade ignited. Anything inside 100 ft with the grenade going off and you, and anything around you, becomes a mist of death. So, not blown up in the typical RPG sense of the word.
Adam, man, I'm so happy you are still with us. That was unreal. I would have never thought a person could survive that. You're a badass, man. We love you, brother.
As someone who has experienced some extreme things in life, you have absolute courage and respect for being able to sit and process something as insane as this, it was/is nearly impossible for me to recount a few moments in life of extreme stress and trauma and I commend you for being able to calmly and collectively see and process what happened in a 3rd person. So happy you are safe and the knowledge and perspective you offer in life can still be shared for people like me. Thank god it was only a serious scare and not a fatal scare.
There are several things here to realise. 1. The fact that this guy did not die INSTANTLY from the shockwave forces, is unreal. 2. The fact that his carotid artery was not ruptured, his lower mandible was not torn off and his eyeballs were not forcefully ejected from their sockets are all entirely amazing. 3. The fact that his organs weren't catastrophically damaged by the shockwave and the shrapnel is just so utterly lucky. You, sir, had someone or something protecting you. If you recall, Kentucky Ballistics got his carotid torn apart from a .50 rifle exploding. This failure was far more energetic and likely to cause injuries incompatible with life. You are truly blessed, brother. I hope your mental health is okay. Feel free to reach out if you wanna talk.
what protected him was the location of the weld. it was on the bottom which means the force and heat would be directed down at the ground instead of his head
As a former Fire Department training officer, with 25 years of experience, and as someone who understands how safety equipment is supposed to work, it is my opinion that the fact that you didn't have that chin strap secured probably saved you from getting your neck broken or worse. Safety headgear is mostly designed to deflect impacts and not take the full force of such impacts to the head. The angle of the forces that impacted the helmet you were wearing was unique in that the forces were thrust upon the helmet from below (rapidly expanding gases ) and not from above or laterally which is what you are usually trying to protect yourself from with a helmet. In the early 80's my Fire Department started using Cairnes "Philadelphia F.D." design helmets and when we noticed that there was a plastic tab on each underside of the helmet that captured the inner shell to keep it inside the outer hard shell of the helmet we were informed that the U.S. Navy had issued the same helmet to ship board fire fighters and that the reason the break away tabs were there was in case someone wearing these helmets wouldn't breaK their necks when they hit the water, if they fell from a ship, in an upright position. I'm glad that you are recovering and I wish you well my friend .
I had been asking myself exactly that question whether the helmet would have hurt him if attached and then I found your comment. Very interesting thank you.
I was wondering about the fact that it wasn't buckled. I could definitely see an unintended direction of force being applied to a helmet, or any other type of protective gear, severely wounding someone because physics always wins.
Bro, you went through such a traumatic event...like a beast! I would've been freaking out. You handled the situation like you just got knocked down, instead of someone who just survived an RPG blowing up in their face! I'm so thankful you survived this.
5:48 (For educational purposes) Direct somone specific to call 911. If you yell it at a crowd, the crowd effect will most likely set in. This effect is when every person in the crowd assumes "someone else can do it" and therefore doesn't take action themselves. All was well in the end, but I'm just putting this out there. It may save lives some day.
@@vishwarao6064 and it took a minute or so for someone to actually make the call, everyone was so concerned about what was happening right there in front of them. If someone of those 5 had been directly told to make the call, it would have been done faster. As it was, thankfully in this case that slight delay was within tolerances when medical response is basically on the time limit of minutes.
It's incredible how our brains work to protect us, even in a situation that can be as fatal as this one. Completely shutting off its ability to make memories and simply working on surviving. Right after the blast, he was responding honestly pretty coherently too, but the fact that he can't remember any of it is astounding to me.
Same as being blackout drunk, you cant remember what happened the morning after, but you will remember what happened in a few days or longer, or maybe just forget all about it. Severe mental/psychological trauma can do it too.
@@TospikKingI would say what happened to him was an instant system reboot with the brain. The brain was literally trying to run diagnostics after getting concussed, and acquire as much information as possible to have the highest probability for survival. It didn’t have time or energy to spare to prepare the memory save ability as it was searching for the source of the errors.
I’m glad I met you dudes in Texas and I had no idea this was what had happened but it definitely helped contextualize my initial perceptions. I’m glad you made it through the experience. I can imagine it was terrifying for both of you.
Wow so sorry but proud u took it like a champ glad ur still alive and a huge props to you mentioning @kentucky ballistics... all you guys are what I watch to learn the affects of catastrophic gun fails! Thank you don't stop doing what u do!
The fact that he was still communicative a few minutes after the fact shows that Adam is a fucking monster. Absolute legend, I’m glad he’s with us still.
No normal person takes an RPG explosion at point blank like that and is conscious less than a minute after. dude has tungsten nuts and a will stronger than steel.
Glad to see we are free from the RUclips Jail! Edit: glad Adam is still with us, and especially thankful for the learning opportunities from this video. Truly shocking to see the slowmo, but gratifying to know he survived like a boss.
Oh buddy I know all about RUclips Jail I've been in there so many times I can't count last time when they were censoring people I pissed him off so damn bad they threw me off RUclips you must have told the truth cuz that's the only time when they throw people in RUclips jail
Never thought in a million years you guys were gonna post the footage. Has to be one of the most insane things to watch in slow motion. Glad he survived cause i think you guys nailed it when you said "if you watched without context youd never think youd survive that." What a badass to be able to watch that back and break it down. Truly is an educational thing. Amazing whaf the human body can take and how it reacts to these things.
Considering the chances of this happening with a couple hundred grand of camera equipment pointed at the person, it would be a waste not to preserve it tbh. even if its morbid. genuinely unique footage with possible training value for future EMTs and or military personell.
He had an instant concussion and his body triggered a fencing response. It truly is miraculous that the barrel didn't expand and explode into a million piece of shrapnel into your face, glad you are ok and that you have a team that cares about you !
7:25 "Where did the launcher go?" "It launched" That was a good line at the right moment to break the tension I was in when I saw the footage. I'm so glad you survived that...
If I had a nickel for every ballistics channel getting hurt doing what they love- I'd have two nickels. Which is weird, but I'm thankful that both of them are okay, and are still with us. Godspeed on your recovery.
its very rare to see slow motion let alone extreme slow motion in good quality of accidents and injuries. This is exceptional footage. Glad to hear that Adam is doing much better!
Man if I ever see you guys I’m hugging you both. I’m so glad you’re here, Adam. I love seeing the friendships and the responses of action by everyone on the scene. God bless you man. He wasn’t ready for you to meet him face to face yet. You got a lot left to do in this life. Thanks for the education and the candid look into one of these dark moments.
My son and I watch Scott from Kentucky Ballistics and that's how we found you guys. After Scott's accident and now seeing this.... we are so glad that you're ok and hope you make a full recovery. We love everything you guys do.
So happy you are ok, my jaw dropped as soon as I saw that explosion for the first time. Take all the time you need for recovering my dude, you are a champ.
If i had a nickel for every channel with ballistics in its name that had a host explode. Id have two nickels. Not a lot but weird its happened twice. In all seriousness so glad youre revovering. So glad youre okay and hope you guys can keep up with your amazing work

it's odd what shock can do to people- some people freeze, some get super emotional, and some like adam seem to jump into a focused survival mode trying to keep practical matters under control. All valid responses,of course, but glad he was able to contribute his medical training towards his own first aid and super glad he's doing physically basically okay now on the road to recovery
Fucking testicles the size of watermelons, that. The footage got a "Jesus fucking Christ..." out of me, am very glad he's recovering and is in good spirits.

Im a retired disabled army guy and some of my IED hits are on camera. It is neat to preserve and learn from, but will always be weird because there you are, doing, saying, going through things, you simply have no memory of. You probably got brief polaroid like memories of seconds inbetween whole minutes of no recollection at all. It's alright to have swiss cheese memory, welcome to the club and glad you made it!
@@ylondes9927 It varies. I have hearing aids with a function designed to reduce (or reduce my noticing) the squeal tone. They work alright and most days it is completely manageable, nearly unnoticable. Other less often times, it is so loud and continuous that I can't hear anything else. But that doesn't last too long or get that bad that often. :D
I am not a doctor, or anyone who knows anything specific about what something like this should do to a person. But I do know enough to say that the fact he survived is astonishing. The fact he not only survived, but suffered relatively little injury is a miracle. The energy released by this type of explosion is not something the human body is equipped to deal with. I have never seen any of your content before, but I’m very glad you are ok none the less. Thank you for making this video and I hope you heal up quickly.
this was an innert rocket used for testing the damage from backblast which didn't require an actual HE warhead. it had the booster but no explosive. if it had been an actual warhead they probably would have been picking up pieces. iirc the RPG doesn't have a safety fuse the prevents it from denoting before it flys a certain distance.
@clydecraft5642 its always struck me as crazy that a thin metal cap is the only safety they put on a literal grenade you put next to your head to use lol
So glad you're still here to tell the story yourself, brother! I know things unfortunately happen, and you guys are as safe as you can be, but continue to be careful! Thank God for the fast response by your crew and all of the first responders!!!
When your buddy hits the ground and doesnt move right away, theres something about that sight that can damn near break you. Im glad youre still here man.
I had that happen to my brother and that kinda stuff sticks with you. And my brother was only on the ground for maybe, half a second. I can’t imagine how they felt seeing him lay there as they ran over.
3 1/2 minutes for his memory to come back is damn impressive from that. I have 12 hours of memory gone from a dirt bike crash from 7 years ago. Also his recovery in general is just impeccable. That was one hell of a blast. Glad you're alright.
I had a diving accident in '98 that broke my back(T-8-10) and fractured my C-5 neck vertebrae. I'm now a paraplegic. I don't have any real memory from slightly before the accident to almost a month after. It's interesting how the brain deals with trauma. I wasn't unconscious for much of the time and still have very little real memory of it.
I got into a gnarly moto accident a few months ago, lost about half of my memories and had a month of headaches and eye pain, doctors said i should be disabled mentally but we made it.
I remember in college I concussed the fuck out of myself in a bike accident (without a helmet) and there's just a solid 10 minutes that don't exist for me. I remember looking down at the sidewalk thinking "this is going to hurt." and the next solid memory I have is me looking at myself in the mirror in my room thinking "that looks like it really hurt." After a while I remember someone physically picking me up and helping me back to my dorm, but I couldn't say who they were or what they looked like... Just in the moment going from curb>mirror>realization of the scale of my injury. Kind of nice actually, but also really scary. I don't remember any feeling of physical pain from the crash.
"It is possible to commit no error and still fail. That isn't weakness. That's life." You guys did everything you could to keep safe. It was just bad luck. Godspeed on your recovery. I don't have to tell you to listen to your physical therapist. "I bear hugged an explosion", is one heck of a story to tell.
"It was just bad luck." It wasn't just bad luck, but a complex combination of bad luck and luck. He's alive, his hands are in place... And this is the only record of such an incident in the world. It's a strange thing, isn't it?
No wonder Scott from Kentucky Ballistics keeps saying his neck scar was itching.😂 But in all seriousness, Adam your are lucky to be alive right now. That was a lot of pressure escaping right under your arms, the fact you still have arms and fingers is just a miracle. You definitely had a guardian angel looking out for you there. And let’s give some love to the quick response from your team, they did a great job responding to this unfortunate accident. Glad you’re ok and recovering. God Bless.
Coping with comedy: If we don't laugh, we'll either start screaming or start crying, and we don't know if we'd ever stop. So laughter becomes the best medicine.

Adam, I have no words after watching this, other than it wasn’t your time, and I am so glad you are recovering. I retired from the US Army in 2001 after 21 years and change. I was a 90mm RR main gunner, LAWS gunner, AT4, stinger gunner. In the early 80s we didn’t have the technology and RUclips we do now. I had no memory of getting blown up with a grenade that landed about 3 meters to my front left. It was about 2200 hours on a night mission, when we hit an ambush. I was prone, firing my weapon and never heard the grenade hit the ground. My last memory was feeling like I just took a huge hit like running full tilt into a brick wall, instantly followed by a bright flash. Back then we had the steel helmet with the helmet liner, but we never wore the chin strap, because if you were ever hit with a blast, the chin strap would not detach from the helmet, but the helmet would pull away with the chin strap ripping away the tissue of the anterior of your neck, possibly even creating a closed decapitation. Because I was mostly firing from the prone position, I escaped most of the shrapnel. I drifted in and out of consciousness, I couldn’t hear anything, I was told my left ear drum was blown, left eye orbital blowout fracture, what they call TBI now, but back then, the brain hit one side of my skull from the initial blast, then hit the other side of my skull when my head suddenly stopped moving when it met an immovable object (AKA: the earth). The injury known as a coup-contra-coup brain injury. I don’t know what size of hand grenade blasted me but I kept thinking in the hospital it wasn’t a regular grenade. I was later told it wasn’t a grenade at all, but the first round of the mortars used in support of the ambush. I’m 100% disabled now because of the harm we put ourselves in just to complete the mission. Seeing your accident with today’s technology capturing every millisecond, brought some of the foggy memory of that moment 41 years ago. I am so glad you are doing well. Thanks guys for sharing this, painful and emotional life changing event with us. Adam, you have a great support network, remember, we fans GY6 too!

I had a serious motorcycle accident that was all on video. I had a TBI and don’t remember the accident, the ambulance ride, or the next 3 days. I had a log of gear so I only had some broken ribs and bruising outside of the head injury. I didn’t have an PTSD and watching the video feels like I am watching someone else. I am really glad you are ok.
Similar experience. Bounced my 650 pound Harley of a guardrail at 80 miles an hour and then slid down the highway for a quarter mile with its mangled wreckage on top of me. Only lots of gear and luck kept me from losing limbs or life. Interestingly, I suffered more PTSD from that incident than from 21 years in the Airborne Infantry and Special Forces with multiple combat operations and many friends dead or maimed. Don't know why; maybe it's because, in the Army, I always anticipated the worst, but my motorcycle accident was a total surprise. The brain is a bizarre thing.
So do you go on your motorcycle and run it full speed into a concrete wall to see what would happen? Well these idiots tried this in effect, ZERO sympathy!

At time index approx 19:50, where you're discussing the failure of the booster and the sealing of the venturi and catastrophic pressure, it looks like your "guess" is on point. Something you didn't say or discuss directly is that you can see the warhead moving out of the front end of the launcher before EVER seeing any back blast exiting the venturi. If you look back at your previous video, you can see this in EVERY firing, it is clear, especially at the 30,000 fps segment, you see exit gases well before you see any gases escaping from the front opening and certainly long before there is any discernable warhead forward movement. This certainly supports the idea that a booster charge failure can potentially seal the venturi and prevent proper back venting of gases! Glad you survived, god speed in your continued recovery.
Is it possible that the ballistic gel dummy was too close to the exhaust preventing gases to escape aswell? Back Pressure and Damage: When the exhaust pipe is blocked, the high-pressure gases generated by the rocket motor have nowhere to escape. This leads to a significant increase in pressure within the launcher tube. The launcher’s structural integrity may be compromised due to excessive pressure, potentially resulting in damage or rupture.
Wouldn't a fix here be to create a booster that is always smaller in diameter to the venturi tube so it just ejects out the back side in case this ever happens again?
That was excellent analysis. The booster charge splitting in two and blocking the exhaust port is EXACTLY what happens in experimental rocketry on a regular basis. MYTHBUSTERS had this happen when they attached rockets to a car and tried to jump it off a ramp. The rocket exploded because the propellant came apart inside the rocket, blocked the exit nozzle, pressure built up, and Rapid Unscheduled Disassembly (RUD) occurred. Very good analysis. Thanks for handling this in a mature and appropriate manner guys. Best wishes on your recovery
I don't see where the exhaust gets plugged. It has massive amounts of propellant exiting. The only reason it stops, is because there is now a much larger and easier exit out of the big hole in the launcher. I believe the booster either overcharged, ignited too many charges when it started, or it just burned way faster than it should have. You can even see other parts of the steel bulging out before the welded panel blows. But the entire time, that back is letting out as much exhaust as it possibly can.

Cops are well aware of the lapse of memory right after traumatic injury.

How is her recovery going so far?
It really might save your life.

so *lucky*
The shrapnel bits went mostly away from his vital areas
The thing that makes explosions lethal is when they're properly contained. No pressure build up = No energy. A majority of the boom (from the 70-80 or so grams of gunpowder that makes up the booster charge) went out the back (as per recoilless rifle design) and the rest saw uninterrupted expansion after the tube disassembled. The mass of his limb being in the way and his armor flying off likely absorbed enough energy to prevent serious lung injuries but the head wasn't as lucky, hence the brain injury.

Thankfully it wasn't a live warhead. Could have potentially made a horrible situation even worse.

Military training kicking in. Glad he’s alright!!!
Everything that came out of his mouth was useful and constructive, regardless of the absolute shock. Very impressed by that.

@@jonakneen6875if by god you mean physics and safety equipment

@@nehemz432this is not even close to that
Haha, the brain is incredibly selfish. It will do whatever it can to protect itself, even if that means the destruction of other organs.
That's common with concussions. Has nothing to do with survival and everything to do with getting completely knocked unconscious.

I was trying to alert him in comments that you may need his guidance or support.
Yeah, if i saw first part without context it definitely looks likes he couldnt survive
I'm glad his friend was able to talk thru it all with him too. He seemed still very shaken by witnessing that and I think this whole talk really helped him come to terms with and just fully process that this happened, that he's okay now, what might have went wrong, and what to watch out for in the future. Such a scary fuckin sight watching his helmet FLY. Fuck that was terrifying. Glad he's here to share it and educate.
@@SaltyAsTheSea yeah in real time that helmet basically despawned from reality. This is a rare time that a real accident was caught in slow motion and I can’t help but be intrigued by it even though I wish it didn’t happen to him
This is wild. Ngl. I saw this footage through some other outlet and I thought it was clipped and edited and the explosion part was a dummy. Glad you are ok. God is good.
During our monthly electric powerline construction safety meetings during the 1980s, Washington State Safety Officer Allen always reminded us that "Safety rules were written with splintered bones dipped in blood.", which has stayed with me and helped me be more conscious of hazards through all these decades. Your video all too clearly demonstrates just how true that warning is. Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery. By the way, you got all of my Gundie votes for best video. Your channel is a blast. lol
Thanks for doing this guys. It would be easy to lock these recordings into a drawer and throw the key away. I'm glad that you decided to show it uncensored and explain what happened.
I'm very glad to hear Adam is doing well and I wish him a full recovery.
I have been struggling with crippling anxiety from lame ass reasons. And if this man can sit here and watch this than I can try and get through my own stuff thanks for that.
It's one way people handle trauma. A dark sense of humour.
In the future I believe there will be amygdala surgery to get rid of crippling anxiety without drugs. The cons is that the person might become too fearless that he’ll be a menace pop drugs go psychopathic
Nah man. Everyone has different reasons. Different feelings. It’s okay! Don’t compare yourself to others. You’re you and you’ll get better. Keep your head up. You got this!
Anxiety is anxiety no matter what reason you're having it, stay safe man, you can push through it.
Speaking as a trauma therapist in training, having been set on that path by my own crippling anxiety and GAD: there are no lame ass reasons for anxiety. It is an entirely normal response of our nervous system when it gets overwhelmed. I found my way out of it through somatic experiencing and I believe it may help you, too. Feel free to reach out, if you think my experience may offer you any kind of benefit. Stay safe
Great to see you’re alive and recovering fast. Thank you for sharing your experience and you’re all in good spirits.
Adam, I cannot express how glad I am you're still with us. You and your family will remain in my prayers.
Exactly. I've had a bad burn experience myself. My face and hand were badly burnt. But I got away with no scars or long term effects. Burns are no joke. Glad your alive and doing well bro. Only up from here!

I would just like to take this moment to officially nominate Adam as a madlad. That first video with the blurred footage didn't do any justice for just how violent that was! To still be alive, and continuing the channel absolutely qualifies as madlad level. This is such a good educational video from multiple aspects. Hope it stays up without issue. Hope the recovery continues to go well! I'll try to pick up a shirt or something to show some support
What i learned from this is to not use rocket launchers!!
Thats a crazy interesting story thanks for sharing.
Death really said to you "Not today".
And all i have is a like button.
You’re legendary sir! Glad you made it home!
@@notsure7799 - Thank you, for your kind words. It took a lot of courage for Adam to show this to us milliseconds at a time. In doing so, it brought a bit of clarity for me after all these years.
First video I've seen of you guys. watching that footage is jarring. I'm glad you are relatively unharmed. hope you heal up well brother
Remembering Scott’s situation with his 50 cal it takes guts to show something that goes wrong like this for learning and safety props to you guys glad my man is safe and alive.
@@JonathonPawelko I don't think this gentlemen purposely rigged the rocket launcher to explode in his face. What, exactly, is the point you are trying to make, mate?
This proves an important point. Despite his mind being gone and not completely responsive, the training he had gone through took over by instinct which helped you guys do a better job in helping to treat him, even though it hadn't registered what had happened or that it was him needing that help. Good training can make a huge difference
Finally a measured and intelligent comment.
I was seriously impressed. Dude wasn't even present but still had the programming to treat whatever was wrong.

I can’t tell you guys how happy I am to see Adam up and healing.
I absolutely love this channel.
Thank you guys for not shutting this channel down. What you do is important and educational. Fan for life!!!
It's insane to me that he survived. Judging from the high speed, his head was pushed incredibly fast from the blast. Insane.

he didn't even have it strapped on which is a good thing, the wiplash from the helmet trying to rip off his head could have killed him which is why a lot of soldiers don't strap up.
Good point!
Is it possible that the ballistic gel dummy was too close to the exhaust preventing gases to escape aswell?
Back Pressure and Damage:
When the exhaust pipe is blocked, the high-pressure gases generated by the rocket motor have nowhere to escape.
This leads to a significant increase in pressure within the launcher tube.
The launcher’s structural integrity may be compromised due to excessive pressure, potentially resulting in damage or rupture.
@@Trymb96 no
@@Trymb96 There is 6 inches to that head, how would that stop anything from coming out?
Wouldn't a fix here be to create a booster that is always smaller in diameter to the venturi tube so it just ejects out the back side in case this ever happens again?
So glad that u are fine and alive. And thanks for showing it so clearly, was rlly interessting and heavy
But the entire time, that back is letting out as much exhaust as it possibly can.
refurbished stuff isn't the same as when It came out of a factory, I wouldn't take a chance on a refurbished laptop, hell no I wouldn't fire a refurbished rpg, this guy has balls of steel, it was like taken out of a war movie, take note everyone, every youtuber and gun enthusiast, if you are not a soldier and you are not in life/death scenario, don't operate nor shoot this kind of weapon, or at least do it in a remotely operated rig! get healthy soon, hope you recover 100% soon mate

Blessed. Wasn’t your time. Hard to watch this footage, but great to see you came out so well from this. Sorry about your TBI, I have one too. Mine affects my short term memory pretty badly at times, I hope you healed well without any bad side effects of the TBI.
The 911 operator was probably very confused when they heard a call about someone hit by a blown up rpg. That would be an interesting, scary, odd, and concerning call all at the same time.
