I own upwards of 20 of these and some because of this series. Its been great and to have them all in one place seems great. Also helps to bring new eyes to the work you guys do. Appreciated!
Steam has an "Indie Wargame Bundle" that includes "Hex of Steel," "Until the Last Plane," "SGS Africa Corps," and "Cauldon: Stalingrad" for around $60.00. I wasn't going to buy any more games for a while, but this bundle caught my attention.
Hex of Steel is one of my favorite games of all time. I play it with Jays Sound Mod. The replayability factor is high and its got a lot of great mods, scenarios, depth and is easy to dive into. You can configure your units via the editor to your liking. The devs are simply the best. btw i agree panzer corps 2 is like a puzzle. well said
For folks with more of a scifi bent, Aurora 4X is a great space-based wargame/grand strategy game. It's not listed via Steam, but it is completely free (it's originally a hobby project) and the level of detail is mind blowing. You design every warship in your empire, every weapon system, every missile, every fighter, etc.
Ugh, good compilation, but I reckon you should have part deux: anything from AGEOD, Koger's Jutland and Distant Guns, People's General, Shrapnel Game's BCT Commander, Armor Brigade Commander, etc; Anything from Harpoon series.
As a big fan of the Sudden Strike series I recommend people pick up the first two games as well. They’re pretty cheap on steam and can run on pretty much any gaming PC. Sudden Strike 4 does a lot of interesting things but it has a lot of miss-steps. It’s a decent game but 1 and 2 hold up a lot better; Resource War and 3 aren’t half bad either
You missed out John Tiller's Campaign series trilogy namely East Front , West Front and Rising Sun . They're avaliable to buy from the Matrix Games site. The gameplay is a little slow , the graphics are a bit dated and the manual is the length of a novella but if you remember the game from 25 years ago you'll snap it up and cancel any free time you might have over the coming weeks
WarPlan does the Pacific too which is really good. Hex of Steel is the best of the style imho and flows with newbies or old pros it is solid. Attack at Dawn is brilliant
Great video! I was wondering if you and Tom thought that, if Panzercorps 2 is more of a puzzle game (as was Panzercorps 1), what do you think of Hex of Steel? is it less "puzzly?"
Atlantic Fleet is really good. The dynamic campaign on the map is somewhat meh for me, but the other campaigns going through the missions are awesome. And if you lose a ship its gone, and you might not have the money to replace it. A single shot can sink your ships if youre unlucky, so its always kinda tense.
Been playing a bunch of Fleet Command this last month as well! The controls are a bit jank and I hate that you can't Alt-Tab out of it, but it really does hold up quite well. There's a mod for it called Naval Warfare Project that adds a bunch of new vessels, weapons and aircraft but I haven't tried it yet. I wanted to finish the vanilla stuff first! PS. How do you get it widescreen?!
7:15 just want to say, after seeing the absurd war thunder "armoured dune buggies" zipping around the battlefield, seeing the tanks crawl around slowly, carefully, is refreshing.
hmm. Sword of the stars (the first one) is a really great game. command ever increasing fleets, real time combat, where you literally design the ships in your fleet. Can be pretty addictive, and really sits with me being a older gamer. Very cheap on Steam, and when on sale it is a absolute give away.
Regiments,Cold Waters, GHPC, CMO, War on the sea are most definitely NOT forgotten games. They're very popular among wargamers of all kinds, so i don't understand why you included them in a list full of forgotten games, but you didn't include Steel Fury, which is basically Steel Armor but set in WWII and without the weird battle preparation map thing. Or if you like, its like playing Graviteam Tactics but from the perspective of one tank crew. In my opinion the BEST WWII tank simulator ever made.Maybe the best tank simulator in general, after Steel Beasts 2. People are still playing it and there are still mods made for it, but it's largely forgotten.
Hi LT , some very great but underated games ( especially pike and shot). Maybe you and the viewer can held. I‘m searching since a long time for an old turned based game. Should be realeased in 1998 to 2003 ( i‘m sry for not much more concretization of the timeline). The was two faction. One human army ( i think the us army)with modern military equipment fighting against nature monsters like trees and so on. Maybe someones knows the games. Would be awesome. Thanks people👍
Comment #2 I love the addition of all the Vietnam games at the end of this list. Feels like a war that's not covered all too often in games. Sure, we have some great hex games for it, but I'd love to see something more.. 3D / pretty, but with the depth of the hex games.
Man I sat and listen to this massive video and didn't get to some real forgotten games like On The Western Front, Klotzen! Panzer Battles, Dangerous Water, Deity Empires and wow no Strategic Mind but a mobile game like Frontline series.
To use the title of this video and missout Wargame: Red Dragon is a real bummer for me. Its a real gem and only community that can wipe our your dreams
Worth mentioning War Thunder. While it's your typical F2P, - Air battles in simulator mode are really something to behold. While the flight model is behind DCS, and the cockpits are not interactive, the stuff like modelling of the missile seekers, radar cross-sections, etc. is... perhaps the best of all the games on the market??? - Tank battles in Realistic mode are also something amazing, volumetric armors + volumetric physics + the fact that it's a combined-arms PVP with helicopters and airplanes really makes for an unique experience. - Naval battles - here, I would recommend Arcade Bluewater, as it's where most players are, plus: select more than one sever - at the moment it's the naval game with *by far* the most detailed damage modelling. While the map design is awful, the sheer detailing of the vessels and their interiors, including individual decks and armor plates, goes way beyond anything you can find in any other naval game.
those 10 dollar "early access" games by one or two highly devoted people, l am happy to sling them that if the game looks worth the help, some l know l will never play but l enjoyed the concept and wished them with with a early access purchase. I still have a second playthrough as the allies on talonsoft's Bomb the Reich, and at least one as the Germans, (having completed U.S.A.A.F. as the allies on the C64 last century), then l have War in the Pacific Admirals edition to START, at 65, time is running out.
@@LTGamingRUclips IM gonna get the Middle East one cause when studying the battles they were close to evenly match in capabilities. Just Arabs were incompetent tactically and had poor training. But the weapon and arms capabilities was similar.
I don't understand the choice you made here... That you talk about Ultimate General: Gettysburg, which is only the beta version of the full game Ultimate General: Civil War is strange. Gettysburg has ONE battle, lacks ALL of the player customizable units and army composition, and ALL the dozens of other battles. The FULL title, and therefore the one you should've brought up is Civil War, not the beta, Gettysburg! I don't understand the choice here...
@jonathanallard2128 its a lesser known game and is a different game in its own right. I reviewed UA:G on the channel. People have forgotten a game that came before it. A very good game 🤷♂️ easy to understand...you almost prove the point in your own comment 🤣 also going on about Beta and full game is just silly. Two different games 🤦♂️ you don't understand the legacy of these games back too the Sid Meier's games to have written this.

+1 for Close Combat 3. An oldie but goodie, thanks for adding it!
Hi, I made this digital implementation of Castle Itter. What a lovely surprise to see it mentioned here. thanks a lot !!

Glad that you found many games due to our videos!
Pike & Shot and Sengoku Jidai are great wargames along with the Field of Glory 2 series!
Love them all! ❤️🚀
Another great end of year compilation brother! Maybe we have one more left? :D
Hmmmm what could it be!

Great video! I was wondering if you and Tom thought that, if Panzercorps 2 is more of a puzzle game (as was Panzercorps 1), what do you think of Hex of Steel? is it less "puzzly?"
Yes I felt that way personally and Hex of Steel feels more of a wargame. But it is subjective! 🚀

ive been playing pc games since 1983. But ive never heard of military tactics game, where the US military engages with Soviet trees....:P
Would Shadow Empire fit into this ? Its not that old or anything, but ive had a really good time with it once i understood how some stuff worked.
