Flowey is the evil antagonist of UNDERTALE... or is he? Though he does plenty of terrible stuff throughout the story and has a very questionable past, he redeems himself on an odd few occasions - when you add it all up, is it enough to make him the hero of the game?

I really enjoy this video! However, I have something to add.
On the Genocide Route, Frisk needs Asgore's soul to cross the barrier and kill all humans (as Undyne worried they would). However, right as you kill Asgore, Flowey destroys the soul, forever trapping Frisk in the underground and inadvertently saving all of humankind. I find it to be a very heroic act, especially since Flowey finds it within himself to turn back into Asriel without 7 human souls. He then is killed, dying a strangely heroic death after saving billions of lives.
I dunno. I thought it was a cool addition to this theory. Either way, it was a great video!

Can you do a theory on Asgore Because i think he has more power than we think. For example ive always wondered about Asgores reaction to you telling him hes killed ya before. He just feels bad even though he should be making some sort of wierd face at you... unless he has more knowledge over the timelines than we think...

he's actually stronger than we think because when he attacks he doesn't look at you cause of how asgore is a nice guy, if he really wanted to kill you without hesitation and look at you, his attacks would've been harder
@@Luminous_1700 actually the reason why asgore broke MERCY was because he was determined to get all of Monster kind out of the underground. I'm not saying he has a determined Monster soul but Monsters are so close to getting out of the barrier and asgore wouldn't let that final chance go to waste which is why he destroyed the mercy button. Also if we look outside of the box, when we fight asgore it could just mean that his intentions to get all of Monster kind out was strong and sparing wasnt possible until we manage to down him.

As of a few months ago, Flowey has really grown on me as a character and he's become one of my favorite characters, actually. I genuinely feel bad for him as a character and I find his backstory sad and interesting, honestly

Flowey tells you how to get a good ending if you spare him on neutral route, surprised you left that out.
He had own intentions in that regard. Even if you still ended up getting a better ending for yourself by showing friendliness and kindness, him included, he still gets nothing. It reinforces the unfortunate unfairness of the world. And that unfairness creates people like Flowey. And those hurt people, hurt people. Some of them can be changed, and some of them are so stuck in their ways that don't want to.
Yeah, and when he asks you to never reset after the true pacifist ending so that Frisk and their friends can live a happy life. This dialog immediately cut my will to do genocide just for completion :(

It took countless resets, possibly even years for Flowey to crack and start hurting people, finally killing, and creating the infinite chess game where both players cheat which is his attempt to defeat Sans and get to the SOULs after destroying all other people in the underground.
Is it just me who thinks that Chara and Flowey are actually good because it was Frisk's decision tho pick geno. And Chara wanted to show them the consequences and also Alphys is bad because she made Flowey alive, torturing Asriel in a way.

Flowey is not suffering, he has the choice to die if he wants but he doesn't.
Frisk didn't choose to do the genocide run, you did.
Static Chimera Flowey's Determination prevented him from dying. And even though he had a choice he's still suffering. And nobody should have a "choice" to die. That's like trying to justify suicide.
If we put it in the rigth context, the Player could be considered as the real villian in the game. The Player is the one who choose what path Frisk will follow; and the Player has the power to reset everything as many times he wants, losing all the progress that Frisk had done.
Even after the True Pacifist ending, Flowey mentions about that everyone is happy now, but still we can erase all that happiness and start over again. And because the curiosity is strong, the Player can decide to reset everything and try new paths (the Genocide one), or ignore the game and dont play it again
I think the game is trying to teach you not every scrap of content in a game (or anywhere else) has to be played if it destroys who you are. Flowey may have been a hero, but he still made the mistake of trying everything to try to feel something. Don't destroy the thing you love by doing everything. You may lose yourself.
Without watching the video, I want to post this before. Flowey when we play is by far a villian. However from the Genocide route (of all things) he claims he tried to find love (not LOVE) from Asgore and Toriel, and even attempted to be friends with everyone in the underground at one point, but got bored and reset, becoming a genocidal flower, like most players do in Undertale. TBH, Flowey is usually the player.
Then why, every time when *we* reset, flowey is the bad guy over and over, but when *he* resets, he enters a new world

I am looking at this channels comments and 20% are branches off of this theory. 50% are funny comments, and 30% are hate on "this theory is debunked" or "Undertale is dead" and "this channel is dead". so I just wanna ask. why? why go to this awesome channel and just say stupid 2 sentence complaints on "how this channel is dead" or "undertale is stupid". it makes no difference to the channel. so if you want to leave a stupid comment, do everyone a favour and click off the video.

Creative Name well, put your self in his shoes. Over the last year, he has been talking about patron and money problems. He could be going broke. So he makes a theory video. He makes money keeping food on his plate and makes people happy. But people like you and other haters just want him to feel bad about his work. It's not just the theory I look at, it's all the editing too. It would take me 3 days to do this level shit. Scripting too, it takes a long time to script things too. But people come on his videos, hating away because he is saying facts to support the theory. I find it pretty fucked up if you ask me
To be fair yes he puts effort in editing, yes he works hard to upload in time. But is it deserving? Stealing other theorists ideas and recycling them for the past few months isn't really what a theorist does. Scripting isn't really a key claim you put out since most of if not all Underlabs recent theories were made by other theorists long ago so he's simply reading the theory again much like how it's like reading off wikipedia. Also his channel is a theorist channel he should expect some backlash headed toward him. After it is just a theory, But the difference is Underlab makes theories that either A.Gets debunked 5 seconds later in game(ex . his most recent true lab video) or B. Obvious answers to his theory(ex. "Is sans the weakest character"). People want new and fresh theories from this guy not recycled garbage that was already debunked ages ago. People aren't "hating" him or being a "troll" it's just criticism and if he can't handle the flames he better get out of the kitchen.

Well, a hero is defined as
"a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities." While Flowey does have the outstanding achievement of breaking the barrier, he doesn't quite meet all the qualifications. You see, it is the first part of that definition ("admired or idealized") that makes him not a hero. This is due to the fact that none of the monsters remember Frisk's battle with Asriel and even if they could, I highly doubt they'd idealize the same person that captured them and took their souls. We also know that Flowey has a very high LV, which means he has killed many monsters. We also know that his desire to kill, came from boredom and he said that it feels liberating to kill the monsters. Truly can you make a hero out of someone who has done so much harm?

I like the start where you “walk away” from flowey.
I think Sans has a human soul. Hear me out: what characters remember things you do after resets? You, of course, Flowey, and Sans. The former two both have a huge amount of determination, so who's not to say that Sans doesn't have a lot of determination either? Asriel Dreemur was a very powerful being with a human and a monster soul, and Sans also posses a lot of power for a monster. However, you may point out that this evidence just means that Sans has determination. However, notice that Asriel Dreemur never recalled melting with his determination, either. If monster magic + determination equals a melted blob, then why does this not happen to Sans? Simple: he has a human soul, likely stopping him from melting. Also, Asriel and Chara had control over the same body. Notice how Sans acts: He constantly uses modern-day slang, a lot like the stereotypical American. How come he is the only monster that acts like this? Maybe it's because the human soul he'd absorbed also knew modern slang. He also doesn't eat his food at Grilby's. This is a detail that may slip over others' attention, but perhaps Sans has lost his appetite because it reminds him of human food on the surface, which the human would hate to be reminded of. Sans also seems to dodge attacks, a trait which only human souls seem to posses. Perhaps that is why Sans can dodge attacks from the player so well. Now, if Sans had a human soul, how come he isn't across the barrier by now? Well, hear me out: In his secret room, you can find a picture of Sans with other people. How come Sans is standing with humans? Perhaps he has crossed the barrier already and taken a picture with humans. The humans might have gotten use to the nature of monsters, which might be why they were so easily installed into society above ground. Sans also notes that "the surface doesn't seem to appeal anymore, either." Sans might have seen the surface so many times that it has lost its appeal. Perhaps he stays underground to take care of Papyrus, whom cannot cross the barrier. Maybe that's why he would kill you if he had the chance: he and Papyrus would cross the barrier together.
All of the above evidence seems to point at Sans having a human soul. One thing's for sure: There is more to Sans than meets the eye.

Sans's abilities seem to point to the fact that he has absorbed a human soul. He acts like a human in his slang and his dodging ability, and posses powers similar to the ones that Asriel Dreemur has. He can see things across reloads, which only Flowey and the Player can do, both of which have determination. (I forgot to put it in the comment, but both Asriel and Sans survive fatal blows, or at least for a time.) Sans appears to even have gone over the barrier, perhaps because he is no longer interested in it anymore.

When i tried to pacifist the first time, i didnt befriend with undyne.
I got the neutral ending, flowey was it who gave me the hint to befriend with her (after i spared him)
So I did what he said, got into the underlab and got my true ending.
Flowey got kinda pity with me, despite my struggle with the pacifist run I didnt got what I aimed for so he helped me.
I dislike how people say Flowey is not responsible for his crimes. He is virtually a Psychopath. He is still Asriel, like it or not. Memory’s make a person, not their body, not their soul. He knows what he is doing is wrong, but he still does it. He is accountable for his crimes just like everyone else. People who can’t feel emotions in real life (Have ASPD) are still accountable for their actions. Asriel is Flowey and Flowey is Asriel. They are the same.
And you are being a total hypocrite saying that Flowey is forgivable but Chara is not. The player does the Genocide run, not Chara, they only kill one person themselves and two more with the players impute (Sans - battle and Flowey though having to press a button to kill him.) And Flowey and Chara both wanted to destroy the timeline how is it different. The player made the choice to the Geno run and cause it for Chara, but in pacifist they help in the battle with Asriel. (The memories)
The characters in Undertale are built from their depth, having a character be pure evil or pure good is not what Undertale does. (Maybe Papyrus, but he still tries to capture you.) They all have storys, the all have flaw, they are all people in their own way.

Flowey makes his intentions for claiming the Souls very clear. He wants to reset the timeline with their power and go back to how things used to be.
He actually wants you to keep playing the game so that he won't be alone as he says in the pacifist ending.
So what your saying, is that there's method to his madness.
Feel bad for flowey/asriel. He got the forgiveness, but he never got the freedom. When he first became a flower, he had no emotion. He got so miserable because he couldn't feel live or anything. He met his parents thinking they'd help him, but it failed. He spent weeks with them, but nothing. He ran away and just ya know, killed himself. But he came back alive, back in the garden. He soon realized the power of "Reset, and Save". He started experimenting, over and over again he kills himself. He then used his power for good, soon everyone became predictable. It got boring, so he thought "What happens if I would kill someone.." So yeah, he killed everyone. It liberated him to be like that. It was like it was as the first time he was entertained. Then frisk comes in, they have more determination then flowey so they take over the power. Flowey can no longer reset or save. But he can still come back alive if he dies. At the end of pacifist, he chose to stay in the underground alone while everyone was on the surface, he didn't want to in danger them again. He even told the player to not reset and let Frisk have a happy life. I feel like us the PLAYER is the true villain for doing a reset and starting Genocide. Chara isn't even the villain, yes she wanted to destroy the whole world. But you CHOSE to do genocide and YOU killed everyone being her little partner.

Alright! A theory on my favorite character!
I see the Deltarune prophecy different. I believe the circle with wings represents the surface, while the three triangles represent those who would free monster kind. The three being Frisk, Chara, and Asriel. These three form the Angel, because none of the endings could happen without anyone of them.

Now people can surely stop asking “Why you so evil flowey?” (Souls...)
I want to believe this but there are several things in this video that I disagree with.
1. Comparing the Amalgamates to Flowey doesn't hold past their Determination connection. The Amalgamates, in fact, have several souls of several different monsters inside of them and when they are finally re-united with their families there is no signs that they don't love them anymore.
2. Flowey doesn't "settle" for six souls. He takes the six souls and the entire boss battle with Photoshop Flowey is him trying to take your soul too. He even says that once he had your soul he would "become god." ZERO empathy here.
3. In the Genocide route he is showing no empathy whatsoever. He is showing fear. Him imitating his goat face and voice are JUST that, imitations. He showed Asgore's face when he had the other six souls as Photoshop Flowey and he didn't seem very empathetic then either.
All this aside he was definitely the angel of the story, the shape of his form as the God of Hyperdeath is just too similar to the symbol.

Hey so when I was watching ur videos I realized that Frisk has to be the person is the Delta Ruin because it also happens in the Genocide route. She makes the underground go empty. It works for both the Genocide and True Pacifest route though it may be Asriel on the True Pasifest =]

You have it backwards with the end of the genocide route. Chara resists killing flowey, And the player is the one that initiates the kill By pressing a button.

Flowey is bad but he is technically good because flowey is asriel and asriel broke the barrier AND Flowey tried to stop you from resetting on a pacifist so frisk can be happy
Me and my sister thought maybe since your supposed to reflect yourself as frisk, but what if your also supposed to reflect yourself as Chara too. Both of them are like the Angle and the devil sitting on your shoulder. That’s why when you choose the Fallen human’s name your supposed to type your name. That’s why when you do the Genocide run it’s the worst part of you shown as Chara, because you gave into temptation, and you give yourself the punishment.This is only an idea though.

On Pacifist Flowey becomes somewhat of a protagonist, but on Genocide, he's nearly as bad as us.

You forgot that during genocide, Flowey destroys Asgore’s soul so that Chara can’t kill all humans
But Sans mentions that they got all the things they need underground they’ve got food, drinks, and friends already so when Sans says there’s no point on trying he is really correct because as we humans will start another war to monsters as we think they are dangerous I mean if you see a skeleton talking you’d likely report it and when all the monsters come they’ll all likely die so staying in the underground would be actually more better.
He is my favorite character and I believe he is just misunderstood and broken
