Whether we know it or not, your channel has changed all of us…your humility and honesty is a beautiful thing to see in today’s crazy world. Thank you Larry
No doubt! Just hearing and seeing some of Uncle Larry’s “tricks of the trade” has improved my playing so much. I know the group has some courses coming out and I’m sure they’ll be very helpful. I’ll probably buy something so show my support even though I don’t need any more guitar courses. I love getting to watch Uncle Larry, Guthrie and Jedd sit back while oozing knowledge and skill that we all can get something from. What talent.
Thanks Tom. I have learned so much from you and the Nashville team. This kind of access to how you approach your craft, let alone life, is a privilege that does not fall on deaf ears man. What an honor… 🙏🏻
Thank you for reinforcing the importance of manners in amongst your amazing guitar insight AND People are Strange is my favourite Doors track also Back In Black :-)
No matter how many times I hear the "And then I'd be happy..." it cracks me up. Love it and you dear uncle. have a great weekend, good luck with your football picks tomorrow.
"And then you'll be happy." ("And then I'll be happy.") That's Guru weight stuff, Uncle Larry. Thank you. Every time I witness your delivery and camera freeze moment, it always make my day, and leaves me smiling. What a gift.
Hey Tom. Long time watcher, first time poster. Quit my job, so had to get a new gmail address and thus a RUclips login. Homeskoolin' is my first subscription! Love everything you do. Thanks!
I wish you had started your channel 10 years earlier. You don't just make us better guitar players, you make many of us appreciate different kinds of music more. Thanks "mate."
"Some of those chord voicings Are the ones Tom showed ya Some of those chord voicings Are the ones Tom showed ya... Now you do what he told ya And you're rocking with soul Now you do what he told ya And you're rocking with soul" My God, Tom...thank you so much for all you share and for this community.
Etta James…Yes ! 100% agree. She connects my brain to my heart like no one else. Pure magic ! A lot of that in your music too. And…thank you for that !
Agree with all the many positive comments and gratitudes sent to you by other commentators - as a very amateur guitarist, it's such a wonderful privilege to be allowed to hear from you about your professional experiences - and it is all so very "human", which is wonderfully revealing and reassuring......and the most revealing aspect of your playing is not "what" you play, so much as "how" you play......your "feel" and "touch" is so distinctive and emotive.....love it.....thank you....
It certainly does have a vibe. I threw on In Stereo this morning while making breakfast with the kids and playing with the new puppy. Everyone enjoyed the vibe!🎉
Great freakin’ call on “Killing in the name of”. I’ve kinda re-discovered how great that song and recording are this past year. When you said that, I was like YES.
I remember the show up in SF .....in fact i was sharing some footage of it with a friend...the show was incredible. And yep agree ... the sound was perfect. It was the first time i ever saw uncle Larry perform on stage . Blessed ❤
I saw Bruce a few years ago here in Tulsa. Absolutely couldn’t believe he exerted that much energy and force for a solid three hours. It was way past my bedtime before I got home.
In 1974, I got dragged by a friend to go see an unknown 'guy from New Jersey' that he swore was the Next Coming. Bruce defied gravity that night, and I swear the Armadillo World Headquarters levitated a couple of feet off the ground. Even then, he had so much undeniable power and passion in his performance...it was a transcendent experience. Forever grateful.
Tom- never got to see Bruce live in concert but I’ve listened to his live recordings and I’ve always enjoyed his guitar solos . They are always powerful and elevate his songs. They never meander but build gradually in intensity and fit his songs so well.
I’ve been screwing around on guitar for a few years now but never took time to get any lessons or learn any theory. Your videos and lessons are usually outside of my skill level but have inspired me to connect with a teacher and focus more on really learning something about this crazy instrument.
Starship trooper, I got two saavy bridges and 3 triple tree string trees from MCB. You and Guthrie saved me 50 bucks on that order! What?! It pays to listen to Uncle Larry! Excited to hear my Les Paul with the new bridge! Thanks for the In Stereo promo code and thanks for all the great tunes and tips!
I was in the KGSR radio studio in Austin when Bruce Hornsby did an interview and played this thing he called spider fingers. He played 4 completely different parts at once. A true master of his craft. Plus seen him with the Other Ones, the Grateful Dead after Jerry. There’s nobody on the planet like Bruce .
Tom’s channel made me try a guitar practice I never did before. I set up my phone and played guitar and tried to do like the same episode myself just to see what the heck would sound like. Recording yourself impromptu like that it’s like a whole other set of eyes because I saw myself playing some good stuff and then just like lots of bad notes and it. It really dawned to me how hard it is to just do that for like a bunch of minutes unscripted. Thanks Tom that was a very interesting lesson. I learned.
fret jobs value gets influenced by bindings, set neck vs bolt on. the nut always needs tweaaking or replacing. & you get a set up along with it too.. i always change nuts & saddles on any gibson i own as i spread the spacing 1/8" across all six.. ive been using the ABS saddles, they harder than nylon & if you never notch them they will follow the correct radius & youll have no clearance issues over the back side of the abr-1.. lotta people dont know about the abs saddles so i shout it.. great content. i always look forward to the gruhns visits. 🤜🤛
Very much enjoyed this episiode. On tour in the Nehterlands at present, nice to have a correspondence course. :-) Sang your praises to a 16 year old wunderkind who opened for us last night - geeked out on guitars as he is an old soul. It will be cool to watch him settle in to maturing chops. He reminded me of myself at jazz college. Please keep up the insightful nuggets Tom.
Vince Gill 8/1/24 @ The Ryman. 41 song set. 4 hours long. Didn't want it to end. HIs band was spectacular, even the guitar players on the back right ...
After I graduated from Beatles "school" I started really branching out to songs I wasn't gigging/teaching, and things like At Last and I only have eyes for you, What becomes of the broken hearted, etc. 50+ years later (I started in '63) I still go "Wait! I never learned that one!"
8:20 Bro!! After the first guitar solo, the one bar transition they do where they speed up out of the solo and then back to tempo into the chorus ......woooh!!, Bro that is one of the most awesome bits of music every played!! And Malcom's rhythm guitar, all of it, but specially backing the solo??? Tururum tururum tururum Definitely one of the best rock songs ever. Magic.
Not a Springsteen fan but i met a girl who wanted to take me to his concert. Turns out the firm she worked for had a luxury box at Madison Square Garden. The view from the box and the free cold Heinekens and fried chicken was an added bonus. He put on an absolutely amazing show even though i am not particularly fond of his songs. Definitely earned my respect. Great showman.
Tom, agree 100% about boring , one artist concerts. One of the best I attended was Ten Years After. The opening acts, unknown at the time, J.Geils and Yes, changed my taste in music and concerts forever.
The new music room sounds great, just miss being able to see what amp you’re playing through like we could in your kitchen. Any way you could give us a look at what amp you’re playing through with your videos? Thanks for all the time and nuggets of knowledge you give away to us, it’s much appreciated. Rock on Uncle Larry!!
'At Last' by Etta James (1960 version) 😍 Yeah Larry, and THOSE STRINGS!...and yes, I had an 1982 jcm 800 50 watt Half Stack was the vertical high low sensitivity inputs it was my first real amp I loved it never should have sold it but hey I just bought a Victoria 518 champ today so Life Goes On
Thanks for another good one, Tom. I dug that little nugget of knowledge on the arrangement of , “At Last” by Etta James. It’s pretty cool. Further, I concur that she’s definitely one the top singers of all time. She was the truth! 💯🎼🎵love “Back In Black”. It is a great recording. I listened to while I hit the mitts and warmed up before my boxing matches in high school. Anyway, have a good night and thanks again for all you do bro. This channel is awesome!
Coveted guitars of friends: I only had one, and it goes back decades! It was a Gibson Johnny Smith in black-yellow sunburst with a floating pickup. Late ‘60s I think. Amazing guitar, amazing neck. I’ll probably never be good enough to play that sort of guitar in public.
TV yellow specials have been a favourite of mine since I was a kid, they’re so fucking cool! 😎 I never had the means to indulge in old gear so seeing and hearing so many amazing guitars up close and in your avuncular hands is beautiful
This is probably something different, but Iron maidens hallowed be thy name live from the Hammersmith in 82 has amazing quality too. I don't know the first thing about mixing, yet the drums the bass, everything sounds great. Keep up the great videos brother, much love from Scotland 👍
AMEN...you're forthrightness, Cleveland tinged, no kid-gloves approach is great..especially when you call out b.s.-- love Whipsmart and especially Exile in Guyville...sounded like flow state on tape.
Hi Tom and thanks for the great vids! Not 100% gospel truth but I think Tom Morello’s Marshall of choice is the switchable JCM800. Also heard the early Rage stuff drums were recorded through a PA!
spot on about the coveting friends' guitars.... it is fun! One of my buddies has a 90's takamine dreadnaught..... one of the nicest playing and sounding acoustics I've ever heard! I let him know every time I see him, lol. I think he feels the same about my les paul
Hey Tom, Hope all is good. You’re right about Bruce Springsteen. I saw him a a small club in BrynMawr PA called The Main Point. It was about a 250 seat club. I think it was 1974. I was blown away. The band was so tight. I think David Sanchez was on Keys at that time. He was still a skinny young man, but you could see the beginnings of a great showman. At that time Greetings from Asbury Park was starting to get a lot of FM AirPlay. Me and my old buddy’s still talk about that show. Just so fluid and entertaining. Love your show.
>> What’s he building in there? Only Tom Waits knows. Since I can't haul around two amps, but I can haul around a Hotrod Deluxe, the two best ways I found to get a good tone out of it are; bias the tubes and tune the treble, middle, and bass controls so the amp resonates and sings. Fender sends amps out with the bias on the cold side which makes them sound thin, if they're set about midway to the high and low specs they really liven up. Note: Folks, if you're not sure how to adjust tube bias have a shop do it, there are high voltages present inside the chassis even when the amp is off..
I love your picks for the best sounding albums you rocker! I'm about to hook of my 5E3 with my Princeton and Deluxe Reverb now. And then I'll be happy.......
Love the Doors. Saw them live at the Chicago amphitheater. They had a stage wide wall of Marshall’s at least 3 high. Crazy great sound. Tom you are great, too.
A blend of superb musicians will find the drums are the pot over the fire, the bass player is the big spoon stirring the strange brew , the rhythm section a mixture of flame and smoke. the lead vocals and guitars the spices of the stew as it mixes all together a song is created. God loves a Jam
I love all the Lydian stuff you have posting. #4 forever Love you uncle! Hope you are well. Gonna be tour in Nashville soon. Would love to snag a beer ❤
Hi Tom! How are you doing? First item on the list today was coffee and watching you. It amazes me. Best years of my life were in Bozeman, MT. Went to college there and bought my first guitar there (Ibanez acoustic) in 1982.. I was totally broke but wanted it so bad the sales gal let me walk out the door with no money down (yes.. it was fully repaid :) ). I still have it. First song I learned on drums was Back In Black. I don't really know any other RATM songs except Killing In the Name Of and always wondered why I dig that song so damned much. Now I need to go listen to it again to enjoy that shift (I wasn't really aware of) even more. I lived in the Bay area for a few years on the 80's and watched Springsteen play his Tunnel of Love Tour two night in a row. It was so good. Yah, we may all be different. But I think it gets lost on just how much in common we can all have without even knowing it. It's a beautiful thig. Thanks so much again. Made my day.
When you are talking about the tweed and blackface, are you A/B them? Running effects into one and one dry? Running stereo? Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question but I am very interested in trying this. Thanks!
Whether we know it or not, your channel has changed all of us…your humility and honesty is a beautiful thing to see in today’s crazy world. Thank you Larry
thank you bro
I completely agree with this. Light in some dark, weird times.
Couldn’t agree more.
@501chorusecho when is your course coming out? Love your channel, the eduction, the vibes and can't wait to subscribe to the course.
"As long as a man's family is doing good, the rest of it falls into place." Truer words have never been spoken.
Thanks Tom. I have learned so much from you and the Nashville team. This kind of access to how you approach your craft, let alone life, is a privilege that does not fall on deaf ears man. What an honor… 🙏🏻
Thank you brother
Rage never gets old for me! The riffs, the power, Zach’s voice. that band is unstoppable!!
I just spit my coffee all
Over my phone. Uncle Larry jams on RAGTM! You just made my day Uncle Larry!
Killing in the name - that was our high school football team's pump up song. Every time I hear it takes me back. Classic. Hits you right in the chest
dude, you're hilarious. Thanks for keeping up the videos ! very grateful to have access to this !
Thank you for reinforcing the importance of manners in amongst your amazing guitar insight
AND
People are Strange is my favourite Doors track also
Back In Black :-)

People Are Stange is a great song. Very unique, and that guitarsolo is one of a kind.
Hey Tom. Long time watcher, first time poster. Quit my job, so had to get a new gmail address and thus a RUclips login. Homeskoolin' is my first subscription! Love everything you do. Thanks!
Right on man I appreciate it
Welcome to class.🤙

My God, Tom...thank you so much for all you share and for this community.
Love the Robbie licks. My go to warm up tunes. Sometimes I go no further when I practice.
Love the progression explanation. You played it beautifully.
That Les Paul Special in your hand lol!
Good one Brett!😂
The chords in Lady Stardust are really brilliant. What a beautiful tune.
Man it has been a journey from 2020 to now. Happy to have been here since the corona days. Love that special
Love the way you play At Last. Thank you. Etta was the greatest ever, agreed!
Etta James…Yes ! 100% agree. She connects my brain to my heart like no one else. Pure magic ! A lot of that in your music too. And…thank you for that !
The holy trinity of Nashville-Guthrie, Jedd and Tommy. I came here for guitar, but wound up with so much more, thanks bro
I ❤ when Uncle Larry sings!!
Your timing is impeccable, you can't screw up even if you try.. craftsmanship at its finest

Got up early and cranked all four sides of In Stereo. Great music and great fucking sound. Thanks to all involved.
thank you dude...i appreciate that ....its got a vibe don't it?

That might be my all-time favorite guitar, perfect color too

Same here. Saw him in October 1974 on a campus venue. Unbelievable. Haven't been the same since.
Those Liz Phair albums were on repeat in the 90s for me. So good! No guilt whatsoever.
That reminds me how good those early-mid 90's Julianna Hatfield records sounded, too
Love Guyville but that was it
Tom- never got to see Bruce live in concert but I’ve listened to his live recordings and I’ve always enjoyed his guitar solos . They are always powerful and elevate his songs. They never meander but build gradually in intensity and fit his songs so well.

Thanks Tom ! Absolutely love the videos and music from you , Jed and Guthrie !! Have a wonderful weekend
Favorite guilty pleasure album: The Power Station album. Robert Palmer, great basslines and that drum sound! Jeezus!
fuck yeah...the sound of pure cocaine captured for eternity
Man it doesn’t get any better than spending a little bit of the morning with Uncle Larry, a cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin.
Fuck yea man
Just after midnight in Australia 🇦🇺 Have a great weekend everyone!!
You too.
Thanks Mark, have a good one yourself. Exercise your rights as a free human being while you still can.
Im relatively new here. Glad i found ya man. All very relatable
Thanks Tom!! Have a great weekend!!
Wonderful !!!
Those are my two favourite doors songs behind the crystal ship. That piano solo in the middle is perfect.
"I've become the ham" --- cracked me up so hard! I'm 57 and I've become a total ham. Rock on!
Love that Special! What a cool design.
Tom is the BEST!
Wonderful show. Thanks so much.

Great stuff...now I have to listen to Etta
Lady Stardust.....beautiful !
Vince Gill 8/1/24 @ The Ryman. 41 song set. 4 hours long. Didn't want it to end. HIs band was spectacular, even the guitar players on the back right ...
Hahaaa thank you bro
Mixes in the 80's and early 90's are huge sounding compared to recordings today.
"They definitely went to music school. You don't stumble into that kind of stuff, you know, on accident." Well, Tom, we just did. Thanks to you!
After I graduated from Beatles "school" I started really branching out to songs I wasn't gigging/teaching, and things like At Last and I only have eyes for you, What becomes of the broken hearted, etc. 50+ years later (I started in '63) I still go "Wait! I never learned that one!"

REM Fables of the Reconstruction is awesome sounding, Mike Mills rules!
I'm partial to Murmur, but they are all fantastic up through Life's Rich Pageant.
Tom, agree 100% about boring , one artist concerts. One of the best I attended was Ten Years After. The opening acts, unknown at the time, J.Geils and Yes, changed my taste in music and concerts forever.
I saw Rage live once in the 90s. Best band I've seen live
Watching you and Wendy Moten do "At Last" is one of my favorites, thanks for spending so much time with us the past few days Uncle Larry.
27 year old starving artist and these videos really mean the world Larry. Thanks for keeping it real in this weird and fucked up time.
Right on bro
"I can't pull it off,," gotta say, me too, can't pull it off either. thanks a million young man.
I was and still am mesmerized by the chord progression of "Stratford-on-Guy".
Sticky Fingers my favorite LP production...still sounds great..
Great episode, Uncle Larry, thank you!🎸🎸🎸
Cool to see that serial number on the Special. Mine is 8 5454. Absolutely my favorite guitar I've ever played. Cheers Uncle Larry!
one of my favorites "At Last"
30 minutes at an Ingvie Malmsteen concert was all I needed. Subsequently the Mahavishnu reunion in the 80’s at the Hollywood Bowl was mesmerizing
Love the Music Villa T-shirt Tom. Bozeman is such an awesome town!!
The new music room sounds great, just miss being able to see what amp you’re playing through like we could in your kitchen. Any way you could give us a look at what amp you’re playing through with your videos? Thanks for all the time and nuggets of knowledge you give away to us, it’s much appreciated. 'At Last' by Etta James (1960 version) 😍

Best Springsteen shows were at the Cleveland Agora back in the 70’s.
Hell ya it's Bowie ... OMG ... The GOAT and it took me half an hour .... more Bowie, more Yes please ... Great rendition .. and Etta James was great
