This is being done in order to limit the checks and balances and consolidate executive power. It would become very easy to replace these civil servants bringing their expertise with those chosen for their loyalty.

They *can* be fired right now, but only _for cause_ meaning that they cannot be fired without a reason. Civil servants cannot be fired on the President's whim, like appointees.

@@sneakerbabeful True, and it's a big leap from requiring reason to fire a civil servant to requiring only the will of a president. The potential for these positions being filled with partisan loyalists is extremely serious.
