    Conflict of interest, I am a Dr trained in western medicine.
    Agree with the calorie deficit concept, but that can be achieved by doing more and not just eating less!
    People who walk to the North Pole, can eat Lard and still lose weight!
    I lost 20kg (104-84kg) over a year by eating salads most days x2, including cheese, avocado &c and bread, but I was in gym 3x per week and doing a long ride on w/e. And swapped beer for alcohol free…
    The weight crept back on as I did less exercise.
    One other comment, we are not all different, there are broad categories into which we generally can be found.
    Finally, most of the creators of fad diets are dead!

    Loads of us are insulin resistant and around 7 million people in the UK have pre-diabetes. Please advise overweight cyclists to get this checked before stuffing cake and filling their bidon's with High5 Energy Powder to train. RUclips cycling channels always seem to push the benefit of high glycemic index carbs without any balance.

      You can do simple tests that don't involve consuming expensive drinks and food. The first is the simple fasting blood sugar and the second is A1C. Both should be done multiple times over a 30 day period.

      Has nothing to do with the carbs, it has to do with the fat. Why isn't diabetes rampant in the Asian and poor African countries where their diet is primarily based on carbs and not fat? Are you saying a diet composed of Bananas, Grapes, Dates, Strawberries etc are going to cause diabetes? Diabetes is caused by eating too much fat - multiplied by having too many carbs BASED on your fat intake. Show me a type 2 diabetic who ate a healthy low fat diet for their life. I'll give you a tip: there aren't any.

      @@Silidons91 It's a complex subject, a lot of cycling channels are paid to push ultra-processed high gi carb products which I think could do with some balance. I eat strawberries and blueberries every day.

      @@Silidons91brother i have no idea where in asia you’re referring to, but it actually is a massive issue in SEA and South Asia. Not uncommon to see above 10% and even near 20% in places like Malaysia. Even in China it’s about to surpass 10% which is huge considering their population. For context, the US was at 11% in 2019.

    Type 2 diabetes is the biggest (or 2nd biggest) waiting list/issue for the NHS.
    Keto and/or fasting is the ONLY answer from a dietary point of view.
    Qed Keto/ fasting is the best diet as it solves the biggest problem.

    I lost 50lbs on Atkins and although their diet was unsustainable for me, it did teach me about portion control. I have regained about 15lbs-a good thing, I'm able to keep it there by portion control and regular exercise. PS I was 50 at the time and staring at back surgery. Losing the weight pushed back the surgery 3 years.

    I love your nutrition videos! I once asked a doctor I knew if these fad diets were safe. He said people aren't on them long enough to make any difference! As I thought about it, I realized I have never met anyone who was on any of these diets long term. They were always just starting a new one or they were on one for a few weeks or so. It makes sense though because trying to count grams of each type of food you eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks is almost a full time job! And being accrate in counting those grams of each type of food on your plate is a challenge too. Great channel overall guys. Keep it up!

    • @pcm9969
      @pcm9969 Месяц назад

      When I asked him, I was referring to such diets as Atkins, South Beach, Paleo, etc. But his answer really applies to any diet requiring you to count grams and calories for everything you eat. It means you have to spend a LOT of time and effort to keep track of everything coupled with the fact that it is difficult to determine gram or calorie count just by looking at what's on your plate. It's no wonder people have issues sticking with diets with all that extra work in their otherwise busy lives.

    Not saying it will work for everyone, but I've dropped about 30-35 lbs in the last year or so without really depriving myself of anything food or beverage wise. A little self control in eating and a hell of a lot (by my standards, maybe 6 hrs a week) of cycling. I could still stand to improve my diet, but I'm carrying a lot less fat. I know I can't maintain a heavily restricted diet, but I can see myself keeping up the exercise levels. I guess I ride so I can eat.

    Interesting conversation. I've always hovered over 100kg and found losing weight incredibly hard as it seems to creep back on so easily.
    Even when paying attention to calories, macros, etc. One thing I found is the calorie content on food labels seems to be understated more often than not.
    The only way I found around it was the Fast 800 plan - eating 800 calories a day for weeks on end.
    As you can imagine, it's a pretty grotty way to exist for weeks on end, (I lost 15kg and have kept it off, but I wouldn't really recommend it) and cycling was a no go whilst I was doing it. But it was the only thing that got me below 85kg.
    I can understand why these weight loss injections are becoming more widespread as struggling with obesity is an awful cycle to be trapped in, both mentally and physically.

It’s videos like this that made me want to start my own RUclips channel to prove that not only is this advice, not credible, but to give people someplace to go to see the performance that can be achieved when you understand how your hormones work.

      The issue is that many people, no matter the diet are consuming way more calories than they burn. It is easier to consume fewer calories on an initially restrictive diet than on a normal western diet. I spent years in South Korea. If a Korean stays on a traditional diet they remain at a normal weight. Over 50% of their diet is carbohydrates. Those carbs are complex and are mostly unhulled (brown) rice. When they switch to a Western diet with lots of simple carbs, things go wrong. Obesity and heart disease are increasing. Many younger Koreans are switching back to a traditional diet. The same can be said about any other culture.
      In addition, there are people who's health gets markedly worse on a Keto/Paleo diet due to the lack of essential minerals and vitamins.

    • @SteakandChains
      @SteakandChains Месяц назад

      @@jamesmckenzie3532 I 💯 agree. I would prefer someone eat a whole food paleo style diet so long as they don’t under eat protein and electrolytes. Nutrition is too nuanced to sum it up to calories or deficits and surpluses. I feel that if you are providing your body the nutrients it needs you won’t overeat unless your energy demands requirements are high because of activity. I eat roughly 175-220g of protein a day along with whatever natural fats it comes with, and less than 15-20g of carbs per day and lose around 1kg every 3-4 days. I drink around 3-4g of electrolytes a day and cycle 1-1.5 hrs a day with some of those being cat D races on Zwift. I don’t feel tired weak or anything explained in this video. I know of many many more like me. The beauty is the body is adaptive to whatever you provide it. 100 years from now we will look back and know what advice helped the most. Looking back the last 100 years the western eat less move more carb and seed oil heavy diet hasn’t worked.
