Wanted to cover some stuff about gen 8 that I thought was missed A large part about what allows Lando T to run Spdef in gen 8 is Intimidate, so it can still slow down physical threats like Kartana and friends like you mentioned while also being able to pivot around Tapu Lele, Blacephalon, Dragapult, Heatran etc., basically acting as a stopgap on both sides while still doing whatever you want it to like knocking off, rocking, defogging etc. Speaking of Dragapult, Lando doesn't actually stop the physical sets that well since they run Clear Body which you missed. It is also worse off into Urshifu Rapid, another very prevelant physical attacker since Surging Strikes bypasses Intimidate. Still it's the best mon in the tier given its ability to switch into so much largely owing to Intimidate. Anyway great video as always!
I'll never forget playing Gen 4 OU in 2009 with a buddy and him saying with his Québécois accent: "Forretress is a terrible Pokemon. I dunno how you can Rapid Spin with something so slow" Something about the way he said it made me laugh a lot, so I'll never forget it
I think there is a specific interaction that exists between Landorus-T and Weavile, where you will actually get rewarded for switching it in; Choice Band Weavile was everywhere in Gen 8 OU and usually it would look for opportunities to click Knock Off and bust a hole in your team. If you did find yourself in a position staring down a Weavile with a free shot to click Knock Off (and let's assume it got a hit off once before and you know it's Banded), usually it's a safe bet to switch in Landorus-T once. That strong Knock Off is so, so enticing that the Weavile player clicking an ice move instead in those situations should be considered making a play. You then threaten the Weavile out with a U-Turn that will chunk it hard if not outright KO it, and you get momentum. If it were some past gen Weavile with Night Slash I don't think this interaction would be as reliable, but, I have definitely switched in Lando in these situations before and gotten consistently rewarded for it
Here's some tech with Intimidate: Name your Intimidater "The Math Test" so that the text will say somethinf like "The opposing Tyranitar has been intimidated". It does nothing competetively, but it's very funny, which is arguable just as good
Intimidate is a reliable ability rather than a broken one, it’s a support ability that makes good Pokémon better not something that makes bad Pokémon broken it’s one of the most reliable abilities but not the best imo
I honestly think it's the best ability in Doubles/VGC even above weather abilities, unnerfed Prankster or Urshifus ridiculous ability, just look at history of official circuit tournaments and todays tournaments and how Incineroar, both Arcanines, Landorus-Therian & (Mega-) Salamence dominated placements and earnings at different times. As for singles, there's a bunch of much stronger abilities in history and now, one of those being Tyranitars Sandstorm at start of the video that used to be permanent.
5:30 - I've done a lot of SSBM coaching and it used to be surpring to me how often people believe doing a mixup for the sake of mixing it up is a good thing, rather than having a purpose for it

when i was little, i used to think that intimidate was complete dogshit. i think my logic was "why would i want to lower attack? that doesnt even do damage."
I had a similar idea but with Close Combat. I figured it'd be a terrible idea to drop your defenses because you want to take as many hits as possible, so I didn't teach it to my Staraptor in Pokémon Platinum
@@reesecarltonI did teach it, but I hated the move so much! Exclusively because it kept making me go back to pokemon centers to restore that tiny pp pool
one ability I would love your perspective on is natural cure. I started playing a bit of gen 3 and in it, natural cure feels like the second most important ability in the game behind sand stream. But as I started playing showdown in gen 6 my opinion of natural cure has prior to this foray been pretty meddling. I know from watching your other videos we get abilities like toxic heal and magic guard on gliscor and clef that sort of changes just what a status absorber can be, but i do just find the gameplay natural cure provides in gen 3 to be very fun and would love your thoughts edit: maybe even as an extension status absorbers as a whole such as rest mons, or even just the act of choosing a mon to hold status, in my experience usually a defensive mon over offensive
correct me if im wrong but its like 3 times as good in doubles lol you get 2 Pokemon at once, there's only 4 mons, and each turn counts more because there are less turns
Intimidate is meta-defining in VGC or Doubles, and a valuable lesson in role compression. Any mon able to Fake Out + Intimidate + Pivot (U Turn or Parting Shot) is an instant S Tier Mon. I wish we could see a Special version, I would even settle for Confusion cutting your Special Attack like Burn does for Attack and then instead of damaging yourself, your Confused mon selects a move at random like Sleep Talk
In Video "What if the physical-special split never happened?" I wrote a post about how half the content was missed in the Video. MR RUclipsr, your Video had information about the offensive changes of pokemon, but no information about the defensive situation with types. For example your statement with Starmie was, it won't have a change. But Starmie will lose the physical eletricity weakness, the physical plant weakness and the physical darc weakness, while the ghost type barely has pokemon with high physical attack. So Starmie could be build differently with high special defense. Another example is dragon type with a need for special defense only (for Ice, dragon). (More infos in my posts there) Mr RUclipsr, you and the people commenting missed out on a lot of information on that topic. Have a nice day

An ability so good it singlehandedly made Mightyena rise from the depths of ZU to the heights of ZU(but more viable in the tier).
watching XY OU CBB vs Bloo with Aegislash and Lando I in the battle is making me remember a lot of things...
i liked how when Lando-T was added to Gen 9 people were discussing whether kingambit should start running defiant instead
Idt that ever happened because it struggled in dlc1 and supreme overlord ignored unaware and it's more reliable into every other check.

yessss, wouldn't have thought to ask but this is a perfect video topic
Hopefully we get a Special version of Intimidate sooner than later
