Yes, I've experienced that deterioration of discipline, having been too friendly. One should not pamper, overindulge or mollycoddle students. Teachers care but know that tough love is actually real love.

I commend Eric for his work because he is well organized and each time he proves that there is a solution for all of us. It is true that it is not easy, but I had once the chance to work with children from 8 to 13 years old and unfortunately for me they gave me the most turbulent students. Can you imagine how it looked like. Lol. At first I thought, it was a trap? Sometimes we just want to abandon. But with imagination, I progressively managed. As Éric says, if we don’t integrate the rules at the very beginning, it will become uncontrollable. Thank you very much for the helpful advice.

Thank you for your great message, Stephanie!
It's really tough to get challenged in the classroom, but we have to keep the faith that things will improve as we continue to apply ourselves. Good luck, keep the faith! :)

What if the students refuse to sign the rules and don’t agree with the punishments? Most of them never brought back printed classroom rules with their parents’ signatures.

That's a bad one. In my opinion, it's indicative of a deeper discipline problem that requires an intervention by the principal/ director. And if that doesn't help, the parents and community must help bear responsibility to restore respect. It could of course be a wider cultural problem too...

I will try but now i have 16 groups of students. And each group with about 35 students. It's not easy to be connected (lol).

Very tough for large groups. But even focusing on a few each day is better than nothing. 😄
