    Sounds like issue was with sear and disconnect engage surfaces. First 1911 i learned to do trigger jobs on i fouled those up and got hammer follow.

  • @granddad-mv5ef
    @granddad-mv5ef 6 месяцев назад +8

    Kind of bolsters my satisfaction with Tisas. And the new trigger (weight) doesn't hurt either!

  • @JohnMooreVlogs
    @JohnMooreVlogs 6 месяцев назад +4

    There are only a few things that cause hammer follow in a 1911. Worn/short disconnector, long sear feet, weak sear spring, or damaged sear/hammer faces. It doesn't sounds like the latter two weren't the issue because you said the trigger pull was well over 4 lb. Damaged hammer hooks and weak sear springs will tend to cause a VERY light trigger pull. That leads me to think it was a disconnector/sear feet issue. If the disconnector is too short, or if the sear feet are too long, the sear won't disconnect from the trigger and the hammer will follow.
    My guess is It was a tolerance stacking issue we're only a small number of pistols were affected but enough to warrant a recall.

    Very good video, HR, and an EXCELLENT repair process by Tisas. I precisely understand your concerns with returning a weapon for recall/warrantee work, but as you’ve indicated Tisas clearly did a first rate job - both administratively and fictionally. The Raider is a really good 1911A1 (probability even better post-repair/upgrade) and Tisas’ reputation will certainly be enhanced by the ways in which they handled this recall. Every firearms manufacturer occasionally has such issues, and my wellness to purchase their products really is influenced by how easily, well and promptly they process is completed. BZ to Tisas.

  • @tpelle2

    I'm very happy to see this video! I've been waiting to see what Tisas had to change for this recall, as I have a Tisas Duty myself, but not one of the submodels listed. As it happened, I had, shortly after buying my Duty, I changed three things:
    1 - The plunger spring was changed, as the original spring was very weak and I discovered that it would switch itself from safe to fire while riding in a holster. A Wolf Gunsprings plunger spring fixed that.
    2 - I changed the mainspring to an arched housing, just because that is what I prefer.
    3 - I changed the trigger from the long trigger that came with the pistol to a short trigger from one of the G.I. models.
    I did not send my pistol back for the recall. As I said, mine is a "plain" Duty, not one of the "Boutique" versions. But now, since it seems that the issue was with the long trigger anyway, I feel confident that my pistol has had the issue already fixed.

    Time to put some ware on the new trigger!
    Nice shooting marine!
    Cool they fixed this, hammer follow can be tricky, it can be many things.
    Oddly my Tisas has a stock fire control, yet the extractor, fps, barrel bushing, all got upgraded and hand fit, using egw oversized parts. Groups improved, as did extraction locations. Nice neat brass pile now.
    But the fire control was fine, so I left it as is.

I've been wanting/waiting to get something from SDS, I've got 45 pills I put aside for a 1911 Tisas review, and a Gideon RMR size RDS I've been waiting to get something new to put it on to double review as well as film another 8-Box Ammo Accuracy Tournament...I've published the 124 one already with two pistols & waiting to do one with 115 from around the world so people can see which ammo is more accurate to buy!

    Glad you had a positive outcome after the initial disappointment. Sharing your concern for shipping security, when sending out handguns I use a generic shipper's box in a larger rectangular shape and label it as "broken machine part" or "broken wrenches" to deflect unwanted attention. I have heard the stories of guns dropped off at the wrong address of an honest next door neighbor properly hand delivering them to the master gunsmith, the "lost pistol" at the warranty shop that was "found" a year or so later on a high shelf covered under wrapping paper, and outright thefts by insiders in the shipping chain of custody. Until the gun gets back its always an anxious affair.

    I took them down to small parts shortly after acquiring them and saw no issues - I might have mixed some parts reassembling them. Zero issues since except flat nosed ammo (most 1911s).

    Have the same model: raider as well as the nightstalker. went through the same laborious process. Somewhere in the back and fourth, between the 2-3 forms for each gun, they lost track of the fact that I had two guns rather than just one. I received 2 RMA numbers, but only one shipping label. I sent both back in the same box with that label. I get back both guns, but they only touched the Raider, and they ignored the Nightstalker despite my filling out the emails, and forms to get an RMA specifically for the Raider and Nightstalker. I only have a note showing what they did for the Raider: replaced the trigger. They just sent back the two guns in the same box I sent them in (by this time the box looked like it had been run over several times and one corner was completely ripped off exposing the two cases inside. I'm honestly surprised both made it back to me, without one or both coming out. The trigger for the raider was replaced with a new trigger that now leaves an air gap between the rear of the trigger and the frame. The nightstalker was ignored and not touched, just sent back with nothing done, no note, no nothing. It has left a sour taste in my mouth. Why in the name of all logic and reason, would the company not just repair what is recalled and sent back to them by their customer as they requested? Why force everyone to correct their multiple mistakes on the manufacturing end, as well as the recall end? Clearly the concern for safety of others and the users was not so great that they felt they needed to touch the recalled gun sitting right in front of them. They just sent one gun back without repair and left it for me to figure out how to send it back to them again. Another problem I have with this recall, is it doesn't make sense based on the info TISAS has given. They state, the recall is for hammer follow, but they made sure to say, this was a theoretical concern, that has never been demonstrated, but they are issuing the recall just to be safe. I get the gun back, and it has a replaced trigger. What does that have to do with hammer follow? The sear and disconnector are original according to the documentation on the repairs. If they have never had an instance of hammer follow, but they wanted to ensure hammer follow would never happen, I just don't see how replacing the trigger shoe helps solve that theoretical problem. The trigger bow was within spec--it was not too long, there was take up before it engaged the sear, so I really don't even understand the concern behind the recall and the band aid fix they applied semi consistently for all guns sent back. I'm thinking about it, and I'm concluding that the engineers over there, figured out the aluminum trigger shoe might be too heavy potentially causing inertia to pull the trigger, but again, after multiple drops of the slide from slide lock, I could not induce this failure, and the company itself said they have never been able to reproduce the hammer follow issue...so why replace the trigger with a plastic shoe that doesn't even fit the gun cosmetically and now leaves a couple millimeters of air behind the trigger? They did not increase the weight on the leaf spring to counter act the trigger weight--the trigger pull weight is exactly the same as before, and this has been consistently reported by everyone. So what was the problem they were trying to fix, and how does replacing the trigger help solve this problem? And why wouldn't you just fix something that is sent back and sitting right in front of you, rather than using a technicality, like the shipping label with associated RMA not matching one of the guns inside the box--just look up the gun serial number and see that it has an RMA. But they couldn't be bothered to do that.

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  Месяц назад

      I suppose that depends upon how long it’s been sitting on the shelf. There is a serial number guide on the recall notice. You can check the number of any pistol your looking at against that guide to see if the pistol falls into the effected range. Check the Tisas USA website to find that info.

    This is an expensive recall for what amounts to more tension needed on the sear spring. This is literally something anyone could do, and something that needs to be done on any 1911 when replacing the sear spring. You just take the spring out and bend it a little more.
    I have yet to find a replacement spring that didn't need tweaking to work.

    I understand your reluctance in sending it back. But the USPS isn't an airline. Mailing it means a slightly smaller chance your pistol will wind up being sent to Timbuktu.
