This is excellent but can someone tell me what dialect of English Bradley is speaking? I am a native English speaker. I am familiar with about 80% of the words he is using but the way Bradley structures his sentences is unknown to me. I tried it with the subtitles on and that only confused me further. For example, what is a "long vegetable carrot"? Is that a type of carrot? This phrase implies that there are carrots which are not vegetables and Bradley was specific in mentioning a "vegetable carrot" as he did not want the viewer to think he was referring to a "non-vegetable carrot." I thought all carrots are vegetables but I appear to be wrong about that.
Bradley, like many of us so-called #AfricanAmerican men, speak in the spectacular vernacular known as "Jive" or "Ebonics" (Ebony Phonics). These are offshoots of what's known as S. A. E. -- Standard American English and we've developed this style of speaking after being enslaved in America for (4) centuries and also being denied the ability to read & write. Simultaneously, we were denied the right to speak our mother tongue for centuries as well. As a result, we developed our own style of using the English language while being here in the hells of North America and, let's just say, a lot of our "slanguage", metaphors, euphemisms and soulful style of speaking has crept into the vocabulary of many around the world. This is why Soul music and Rap music are arguably the most sought-after sound in society because it's catchy, it's colorful and it's very rhythmic. Lastly, Bradley is so smooth with his words that even an English scholar would find him quite appealing when speaking and would look past many grammatical mistakes like the "vegetable carrot" comment that you pointed out. It does, thank you. Bradley certainly has a melodic tone and rhythmn to his voice. My impression is that his vernacular would be more likely to be heard among Black people who are from a lower than average socioeconomic class. Is that correct? Presumably, "vegetable carrot" is a term he heard, rather than one he invented. Might it be that he is making it clear that the carrot was in its natural state rather than being an ingredient in a food which contains carrots, such as carrot cake or coleslaw? @@yourluxxuryautoconcierge1303
