Prince Philips so-called “gaffes” were delightful examples of British humor. He saw the absurd in every day life and poked fun at it. Only the thin skinned and politically correct took offense.
Glad to see you mentioned his humour. My late Mother heard from a friend that when The Queen and Prince Phillip visited a charity of some sort in Vancouver eons ago.... the Queen was young and quite shy and Phillip sensing this said - and this was overheard by a woman standing near them - Chin up, old girl, walk in as if you own the joint. Canadians will remember him.
He just said it how it was we need more people like him alot of the time he was just making people laugh and putting them at ease great bloke greatly missed by many
@Margaret Kpeh I don’t think one thing you said has any basis in reality. The Queen did not have to marry to inherit the throne. You might recall Elizabeth I never married. They were third cousins, yes - but that is distant. He was Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark when they met. He gave up his titles to marry her. George VI gave him the title of Duke of Edinburgh, but it was 10 years into the marriage when the Queen made him a prince of Great Britain that he regained the title of Prince.
@Margaret Kpeh your comments are ignorant. Everyone can be a cousin. It all depends on the degree, since we all descended from Adam and Eve. You are cousins to Prince Phillip and to Joseph Stalin. Albeit 1,000,000 times removed. The Queen and her husband were distant cousins. Neither first, nor second, but very distant. So what is your point? Know one other than Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip can answer the question if they loved each other. Anyone else would be guessing. Why throw all these accusations without real evidence? I have seen documentaries and none confirm your accusations.
I love the response about the plane ride, and "sad to hear you're standing down" "well I can't stand up much longer" such a quick wit. Some things may have been not received well, but it is obvious that Prince Philip was thoroughly admirable. He lived a very long and hard working, dedicated, life, with such a start that one could not conceive of it ever turning out how it did, his family being exiled and living in poverty and all. He sure made the most of his time here and many many millions of people will remember him fondly. Sincerest Condolences to the Queen, his children, and all those who loved him and were near and dear to him.
I loved Prince Philip”s humour, control someone’s humour and you crush their spirit. Unfortunately some took offence but I don’t believe it was said to be offensive. (Don’t take all of what you see depicted inThe Crown as gospel, there is a lot added that never actually happened).
Biden makes gaffes, Prince Philip didn't..it was humour. Like the time he came to Australia and asked some aborigines if they still throw spears at each other .
Absolutely love his wit, pity more people don’t say exactly what he thinks. He’s so quick witted he was brilliant. He’ll be greatly missed. He could have taught some of these so call comedians how to deliver their lines better. Just terrific!

The one time he really "got it back" (in spades) was during a state visit to Brazil (or another Sth American country). He was introduce to a General who had a full chest of medals. Phillip ask - I didn't know your country had been in that many wars (the majority of Sth American remanded neutral during WWII). The General replied "well at least I didn't marry my wife to get them". touche!! (But of course he did legitimately earn many of his WWII decorations).

@Slavery is Freedom, War is Peace When Prince Philip was dying, why was there an irrelevant outsider present? And he could speak so loudly that everyone could hear him?
His unique life, education, travel, military career, war and experiences made him an extraordinary man, the kind of which we will never see again. He met, knew and discussed with the most important people of a century - presidents, astronauts, scientists, Nobel winners, Dalai Lama and the most educated and leading minds - some of whom were personal friends. It forged a man decades ahead of his time, his ideas about education and environment were revolutionary. Yet, ridiculed at the time. Prince Charles is also a uniquely intelligent man, years ahead of his time. Decades ago, he was trying to inform us about his exceptional views regarding medicine, health, curing cancer, architecture, environment and organic agriculture. He has been attacked by doctors, professors, architects, GMO manufacturers and especially by the press. But decades later, he has been proved to be correct an every subject. The Royals stand up for ordinary people and against big powerful organizations who seek to profit from exploiting us and the earth. Society nowadays idolises vacuous movie, pop, soap and realty show stars, yet the press viciously ridicule the royals. People say the Royals need to modernize, the fact is that WE needs to modernize! WE are out of touch not them. They have an incredible wealth of knowledge on a wide range of subject, we should listen.
GOD love him! The charming old codger...Its sad that ppl do not appreciate someone until they die. One thing set in stone was that his family knew & loved his wit! Dont we all wish we had someone willing to put themselves out there in order to make us feel comfortable.... RIP PRINCE PHILIP, YOU WORE YOUR TITLE WELL...

All I keep thinking is how sad he would have been that in the very last month of his incredible dutiful, 100 years of life he and his family were betrayed by his grandson and a lying, narcissistic, selfish woman (as described by her own sister).
Behind every man is a good woman rest in peace HM queen Elizabeth ii and Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh thank you for your service to you're country and the Commonwealth
Hilarious bloke! Touring a factory, he examined a light switch and declared: "this looks like it was put in by an Indian!" His wit was razor-sharp: in a meeting with expats in Hong Kong he warned, " Stay here much longer and you will be getting slitty eyes! " A sad vestige of a bygone era when people were allowed to insult each other openly.

Elizabeth was Queen because she could rely on his counsel Her Glory as Queen was Prince Philip
I think he must have made The Queen laugh. Would have made all the boring official duties much more interesting.
He had a high level of intelligence and obviously a great sense of humour! Condolences to the Queen and Royal Family! May he rest in peace
I loved Prince Philips sense of humor. I can see why the Queen loved him for so long
yeh, no 2 days would've been alike with him about
The more I find out about this man the more I love and respect him.
What a great servant to Queen and country R.I.P. Sir and God bless you
A man who did not do self pity. I admired him for showing people how to have some get up and go.

A tribute to Prince Phillip and the royal family from Australia
It's a sad day here in Austraila
As we hear that our prince passed away
With four generations all saddened
To the last of the great grands today
Like an Eagle in flight we all see him
Like the first evening star shining bright
Shining down on the world every evening
And shining his bright guiding light
You will always stand tall with great splendor
As your smile will still beam guiding light
we'll all see your eyes every evening as you shine down your bright guiding light
We will always remember each evening
How you stood brave and tall for us all
All the birds in the sky are all greiving
All the flowers will wilt as we cry
As a great monarch you'll be remembered
As you share bright your great evening light
Like the first shining star every evening
You'll forever shine out your bright light
And forever we all will be mourning the loss of our great Prince tonight
Like the first shining star every evening
And the majestical Eagle in flight
We'll always remember your kindness
As we look to the skies every night.
Yes we'll always remember your kindness and forever you'll stay shining bright
As you shine out your light every evening
forever you'll stay shining bright.

Brilliant. Many good ones not in this. "Is everyone in here named Jones?" Addressing the British Legion in Cardiff or Swansea I think it was. Lol.
They're not gaffes. They're legitimately funny humour. Something that is lacking nowadays. Because of how people are so frail and sensitive and weak.
