    Moving from UK to Australia 25y ago, Holden built the best car I've ever seen. Sad they got closed down by the later USA parent company and then tried to replace them with USA cars at 3plus times more the price, just hasn't worked, Australians have moved to mid range cars now and now have nothing to offer. So nice to see these cars being respected and made into an icon forever.

    • @DavidTron63
      @DavidTron63 2 года назад

      It wasnt GM that was to blame for Holden's shutdown. Essentially Holden was hemmorhaging money and had been for years. They relied on govt handouts for many years and when the then Australian liberal govt said no more GM had no choice but to close the operation down. Everyone blames GM but it was ironically an Australian government that invited them to build cars here many decades before after WWII (with govt financial assistance) so we would have manufacturing plants here should another war break out. The idea was we could then quickly turn those plants into building tanks and aircraft. And so it was the Australian government (notably Joe Hockey) who essentially told GM they could f#ck off. That act was nothing short of disgraceful after all GM-Holden had done for the economy for so many years. Of course, Holden didnt do themselves any favours by continuing to refine the Commodore which was described by some in 2014 with the release of the VF as the best value sedan in the world in its price bracket. The problem was by 2017 the world had moved on as had much of the Australian public, who had by now been buying SUV's and cheap rubbish from Asia for many years, and the glory days of the Commodore being the best selling car in the country had long passed. The liberal government decided that there was no point in continuing to fund the building of a car that the Australian public was no longer buying and so was the demise of Holden. The legacy we have as owners of the late model Commodores is the pleasure and enjoyment of driving one which largely only exists thanks to the Australian taxpayer.

I have a 2009 Pontiac G8 GT set up very similar to your SS except I am running a Magnuson 2300 Supercharger at 10 pounds of boost. I also run E-85. That let's me pull a little more timing and it runs cooler than 93. I do have to use dual fuel pumps. It was tuned on a dyno to 715 HP on E-85, however on 93 Octane it makes 650 HP. You really have a beautiful machine. Enjoy that ride! Great video! 👍

    love your car and channel. Not tooting my horn here, just had a bbm moment! I’ve done more than a few thousand supercharger kits and builds. BBM VW. You don’t want water sucking into that low mounted intake. Near instant charger failure. Water as we know does not compress. Even heavy rain could kill your set up. The loose heaton and roots can pass fuel and meth injection. TVS is a hybrid roots twin screw design. In my opinion super risky passing any fluids. Twin screw Lysholm passing liquids will fail nearly immediately. Also with forced induction, keeping your filter away from heat is less important than keeping it safe from debris and water ingestion in my opinion. Peace, keep up the great work. Johnny B. PS. Unless you never ever drive in the rain. Or you will vacuum up water! Charger turbo failure sucks literally. Super siik build!_

    These cars were seen as a cheap drivers car to carry the kids in Australia for the past 30 years, then production came to a halt and the pandemic hit, now they are selling at drug money prices. The most powerful model, sold a very limited number of them with an LS9 dry sump motor supercharged, that came factory with 635hp with 600 torque. Sold brand new for $120k USD, now are currently selling second hand upwards of $350k USD 5 years later
    they are called HOLDEN HSV GTSR W1

      @@LosSS hmmm... might have missed that one, would have to be a limited spec one. There was a hsv supercharged ute, i believe 1 of 1 in its options list that sold for $1.2 million AUD, so 900k usd roughly. Crazy prices would never pay that.
      You guys would have liked the Fords too. The I6 turbos are a lot quicker than the v8s.
      There are guys with ford 4 litre inline 6s with up to 2500 horse power and still legal to drive on the road. In either 4 door sedan or ute

    Hey man just subbed to the channel, I’m about to LSA my SS with basically the same set up besides blower being ported. I had a question what’s the max the stock fuel pump can handle ?

    • @LosSS
      @LosSS  3 года назад +2

      Thanks for subscribing. That’s a good question. Tbh I wouldn’t know, however I would say it is probably good up 600ish hp. If not mistaken it is very similar to the zl1 fuel pump.
      If you ever start to run out of fuel, you can do like a DSX aux pump along with you stock fuel pump. This is the route a lot of people take and also cheaper.

    Los SS - Really nice ride. Why did you swap from the Circle D 3600 back to stock ZL1 TC? I have a high stall TC in mine and have been thinking swapping it out for something a little more daily driver friendly. Did you have to retune the TCM after the swap? Thanks.

    • @LosSS
      @LosSS  3 года назад

      Drivability mainly. This boost cam doesn’t require a big converter. It drives amazing with the zl1 converter.
      The converter got swapped out while the motor was out getting new cam and blower installed. Yes i would definitely get a retune right away after swapping converters.

    I'm planning on picking this up next year, but i'm stuck between this and a gt350. Knowing myself, i know i'm going to be bored of that 370rwhp fairly quick, was wondering what would be a good hp number for these cars to still be daily drivable, something that won't be going to the repair shop every year or so lol. This is going to be my daily, but i do want something fun.

    • @LosSS
      @LosSS  Год назад +1

      I dig the gt350r. I had a buddy that had one and absolutely loved it. I'm not a big fan of ford but I'll take a gt350r or a single cab f150 with a ten speed.
      You can make great power NA or boosted and it be reliable. Just have to make sure you do the right mods and get the car tuned by someone that actually knows what they are doing. If you are staying NA, get some headers, xpipe, CAI, cam (stock stall cam or a cam with a bigger converter), and a tune and easily make 450-470ish. If you plan on going boosted, I would go with a boosted cam from the beginning or you can simply slap on a stock lsa kit and make 500-550 easily. There are sites that sell complete stock lsa kits for about 4-5k.

    • @LosSS
      @LosSS  Год назад +1

      Regarding hours, I couldn’t tell ya. This car has been built over the years, little steps at a time. Regarding cost, 10k on the blower kit with supporting mods. I have another video on my channel that goes more in depth. In total in what I have dumped into it over the years.. probably like 17-20k (including performance and aesthetics).
      You can pick up a full lsa kit for like 5-6k. Keep it on stock or close to stock boost on 93 with stock fuel system and make 500hp easy.

      @TheThunderwesel Год назад +1

      @@LosSS ok thanks for responding on such an old vid lol I was actually looking at the those lsa kits as a way to get something more daily-able. Even seen people getting over 600 on e85 with some of those kits and some headers. If you were in the position to start your build over again which year SS would you start with? 17 is newest obviously but I don't see huge differences between years other than price lol

    • @LosSS
      @LosSS  Год назад +1

      @@TheThunderwesel no problem! I try to respond to all my viewers questions.
      I don’t have a year preference tbh. Actually I chose the ‘15 cause I wanted fog lights haha. If I was looking to build a full blown drag car, I would go with the 14 for a couple reason. Those tend to be cheaper, they don’t have mag ride and don’t have brembos in the rear, so I would easily throw on coil overs and upgrade the brakes to run a 15in drag wheel.
      15-17s are pretty much the same besides some minor changes to the front fascia going from 15 to 16. Ohh and bimodal exhaust too.

    • @TheThunderwesel
      @TheThunderwesel Год назад

      @@LosSS that's what I was hoping to hear since I've literally seen 14's and 15's going for half the price of 17's in my area and I probably won't run a straight drag tire on the back anyway since I want it to be as much of a sleeper as it can be or just something to have a blast with on some back roads every now and then. I've already got a purpose built drag car.
