- Here we're putting together some IKEA furniture. This is the upper and lower Havsta storage shelves. This version comes with solid doors on both the upper and lower units. It's a long video, but I wanted to cover every step in the process. Hope this helps!

Great, thank you! Love how you did it by yourself and in a restricted space! I'll be facing this nightmare this week lol.
Awesome! Your narration the whole way through is SO helpful! Now I feel ready to tackle this project!
I'm about to buy several of these units to put along the living room wall. I'll definitely be using your video! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. We bought an as is unit and without instructions it was hard to know how to attach the top and bottom units. This was very helpful!
Thank you so much for taking the time to film this and talk us through this. The directions are not that great! What I really liked is that you explained what some of the parts were for. Like the little black part that goes on the back to adjust the unit.
Nice post! Great video, nice voice, very clear and so nice and normal/calm : )Thank you for your helpful video!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you found it helpful!
I have to put my mom's cabinet together it's a little confusing so thanks for the video.
What type of screws do you use to anchor to the wall? And did you use drywall anchors with them? I don’t think Ikea included these
I believe I used 2 1/2” wood screws to reach through the plastic spacers they included. I did use anchors, but you’re right, they didn’t come with the unit.
I put in the round ratchet "nut" in the round holes first and line them up for the metal peg that will go through it. This enables the round ratchet "nut" to sit deeper in the hole
Oh nice! Seems like that would work well. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for uploading this video. When the top/tall cabinet door is open, how far does it open out? How many inches? We want to put the cabinet behind our dining table and can't decide if better to get this one or the sliding door one.
I have base molding that the bottom unit is pushed up against. The doors of the top unit, when opened, are roughly 29" from the wall. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! Would we be able to remove the bracket in the back connecting the two pieces for moving/transportation? Would those plastic bits used before the screw be an issue to remove and reassemble?
I don't know for sure, but I think the plastic pieces would come apart fairly easily. Once the insert is popped out, I would imagine the outer piece would pull free without much trouble. Being MDF, I would just be as careful as possible pulling it apart. Hope it works well for you!
Great video - super helpful! I'm thinking about buying/building just the base unit and the instructions say you "need" 2 people. Is there any reason to believe I can't do it alone? Seems weird...
Thanks for watching! I wouldn't think you would need two people. Carrying the unopened box is tough because they are really heavy, but putting it together and standing it up should be easy enough for one adult. Good luck with your project!
Hello, If you don’t screw the furniture to the wall, can it tip over?
There is always a chance of it tipping over, so I wanted to be safe. Wouldn't want one of the kids to climb on it and pull it over.
we bought 3 bottoms and tops and was missing all of the silver bottom parts on all 3 bottom boxes.....suppose to be 12 in each box.....:(
Oh no! I’ve had an issue before where stuff was missing and they sent them right out. Doesn’t help you today, but eventually you can get them together. On these units I thought I was missing parts, then I realized I was using the parts box for the bottom unit to assemble the top. Found the right box and everything was there. Lol
Did you attach the two units that you eventually placed side by side? I'm thinking of doing the same, but want them to look like a single unit, instead of two separate ones.
I didn't attach them together, but I did push them right up next to each other and attach them to the wall. I would imagine you could glue a thin strip of laminate or something over the seam if you really wanted it to look like one unit. Not something I felt I needed though. Good luck!
SO U KNOW IF U NEED ELECTRIC TOOLS FOR THIS
Very helpful although the one step I was looking for help on was the one you skipped which is the screws into the wall. Found out that I just have to provide my own apparently but still wanted to see it done.
Sorry about that! I was actually surprised that it didn't come with screws since my Ikea wardrobes did. What I did was adjusted the little plastic spacer out as far as I could, then ran a screw through the hole from inside the unit. If I hit a stud, great. If not, I removed the screw, put an anchor in the hole, then put the screw back in. I think I ended up using 2.5" screws. Hope you got yours to work!
Do you need to drill any new holes with a power drill or can I use a simple screwdriver?
I believe the only thing I really needed a drill for was attaching the unit to the wall. I did use a drill for some of the other assembly, but only to make it faster. You should be able to do everything with a screw driver.
How long do you think it took to build in real time?
I couple of hours on the first one I think. Second unit was quicker since I had an idea what needed to be done.
It would be helpful to specify which can bolts to use as there are two different sets and it doesn’t specify which to use.
Hi Bryan, not sure which bolts you're referring to.
What was the time it took to put 1 of these together?
Well I was shooting video, but I think an hour or so per unit would be about right. Depends on your skill set as well though, of course.
@@typicalthrill thanks for this. I have to do 6 tomorrow for a client and I said 4-5 hours 🥴🥴 but I have a drill
@@camm970 Good luck! I think they should get quicker as you go, so I would imagine you'll be good with that time frame.
got a package without any screws at first. Realised hinges were awful on the replacement ones. Sending this one back. A lot of hours lost. May be no ikea in the future. Its useless, flimsy garbage anyways.
