The Sea Vixen is a beautiful and interesting piece of British Aviation history. In-game it can carry 4 Red Top Air to Air Missles or a large selection of bombs/rockets/ and other munitions. No guns though and I like the challenge.

If the cockpit was symetrical I would possibly have bought it, but the brits like ruining otherwise beautiful planes (like the buccaneer nose thing).

I love how they took away the safety off the AAM's again to where before red skies for a time since I believe new power they took away the ability to lock friendlies but now you can I don't think people prefer it this way but I think it's better with out the safety because it adds more realism and also could keep your enemies from getting a missile lock in a cluster which could be seen as useful but anyways I am glad they added it back others may disagree but this is just my opinion on it :3
I glad it’s back for a rather silly reason, it makes it easier to kill my squadmates after a battle has ended.
Anyone remember when MiG-15bis and F-86F-2 were the end of their respective tech trees? How people were up in arms against the idea of introducing guided Air-Air missiles to the game because according to them, "With guided missiles the game will become just point and click, no skill at all needed anymore!"... I remember it like yesterday.
Top Tier jet gameplay consisted mostly of sometimes endless and frankly quite boring chase situations. Dogfighting, even in the relaxed sense of the term, was almost impossible because slowing down meant that you would inevitably be splashed by a random enemy suddenly appearing out of nowhere.
I do wonder where all those "Pro's" are now... do they still play War Thunder? And if they do, how often do they find themselves too close for a missile shot, lose lock, have a missile go stupid, lock the wrong target and so on and so forth? All these nice little "problems" that make being successful with AA-Missiles being a skill all of it's own, but which everyone either neglected to mention... or simply had no idea about.
I don't know about you, but what I see in replays and in the rare case of myself playing Jet RB, *it looks and feels way more fun now than back when I was actively playing.*
Just to put my rambling in context, I have long since stopped being an active player... my highest BR planes are still the F-86 F-2, MiG-15bis, CL-13 Mk.5 and F-86 F-30... oh and the british Venom.
Arcade like completely mixed battles in RB, regardless of BR range, were what finally made me stop investing my time in this game. But if the constant mixed battles would be gone and NATO vs. Soviets and friends was finally a thing(it is easily possible to have matches where a nation fight itself, with restrictions on which vehicles can be chosen on either side) I could very well see myself picking War Thunder up again... and also invest my money into it again.

IR Missiles do not discriminate between friend and foe. Although Ham is a very tasty target. 😂 Good flying and shooting as always Bo and team.

The Sea Vixen Guided missile is the most powerful missile of all, combining both the heaviest kinetic and explosive payload available for a platform of its speed
But it dies out and locks onto teammates 5x more than the enemy chasing him. Meaning it will ignore lock the enemy 1.3km from you and lock the teammate infront of him at 1.6. Its the most frustrating Missile ive used. I also slave missiles with its radar and thats a headache to get it to work. This Plane would be sick if its missiles worked. Hence its the only way to help anyone in a fight. Ive hit G.91 and they take a critical hit from the missile and fly off. Sometimes its the game, sometime its the missile. IDK though. I dont have near as much issue with any other AAM.

This is honestly an amazingly beautiful plane, even with the asymmetric design. What is your favorite part about the plane personally?
Idk. Probably the stupid tail set up. Never seen anything like it and perhaps for a good reason.

@@redstoneactivator3389 The cockpit design generates less form drag and thus improves the top speed and acceleration, especially at high speeds, compared to a design that would have both crewmembers sit side by side.
And the high tail isn't stupid, not for a 2nd generation Naval Jet at least. A high tail allows for a higher possible AoA(Angle of Attack) than if the elevator would sit at the usual place, slightly above the rear fuselage. In that classic position, at an AoA of maybe around 20 degrees the main wing would start blocking the airflow to the elevator. Meaning, no elevator control above a certain AoA.
Now, designs with delta or double delta wings like the Mirage III or Draken don't have that problem, because their elevators are on the main wing. For every other type of wing planform design, it was later noticed that placing the elevators slightly *below* the main wing almost completely cures said problem, and if you take a closer look at select pictures, you will notice that not a single modern high performance *fighter(!)* has it's elevators placed anywhere else than below the main wing. As for Attack/Strike aircraft like the A-10 Thunderbolt II and Bombers like the B-1 Lancer, those aren't supposed to pull high AoA's anyway. ;)
@@sd501st5 I ment to say that a sunken inline cockpit is an interesting design, obviously it's inline to reduce drag, but why did they give the radar operator such a large window facing up no less. I just love these aircraft that have usually 2 to 3 crew? in weird locations through out the plane, like nose cupolas and etc.

Kudos to that F80C for pretty much winning the initial 1v3 though, was in an uptier yet still managed to kick ass.

I like this plane; it looks good, and has a nice handling, but in typical British fashion the weapon-systems are shit. The redtops has a higher chance of hiting, but has more locking issues that the firestikes, and for some reason sometimes forgets to track at all, no ballistic computer/bomb site (witch is strange cuz why we have Nigel for?), and the radar has problems too. Sometimes i just fly it with a full ground attacker setup to at least do something, do to this plane needs a bait to kill anything smaller than a bomber, and planes like the Me163 or the Sagitario 2 are off the menü, u just can't hit those!

I love this Plane too. But its sucks that its missiles suck. Like it lacks guns, atleast give it a helping hand. Radar slaving his shit too. takes multiple clicks to get it to find the target RIGHT INFRONT OF ME. Could be a fun plane for no Guns. :/
Clearly no need 650 when you can't pen the russian tank anywhere you like. You still need to aim lfp which is really hard to aim but you still got pen easily like a hot knife through butter. But in a return russian t80bvm had amazing gun handling and pretty much same speed but much much much much more sturdier armor.

the best way to use the red tops is to radar lock your target, it helps a ton
To my understanding, it only helps with the missle acquiring the lock. The Redtop operates by IR. Once it leaves the rack the missle is gonna lock onto the heat source... and has no way of being assisted by the radar. In the video, I was actually smashing the radar button a lot. Sometimes you saw it lock on... sometimes it did nothing... and other times it just made a green arrow at the top of the screen and then did nothing. A lot of other RUclipsr have been complaining about radar lock in this patch as well.

had the British managed to put the longer range Red Top Mark 2 and successfully develop the Radar Red Top aka the Blue Dolphin Semi-Active AAMs and replace the Rolls-Royce RA.24R Avon Mk.208 with Rolls-Royce Spey Turbofans and the AI.18 Radar with a new one
The Sea Vixen would’ve been even more deadly with a decent gun! Its maneuverability considered, it’s puzzling why de Havilland chose to omit guns imo…
Something I haven't figure out about Bo is why he refuses to RTB to rearm and refuel when he has ample opportunity to do so, instead he stays in the fight completely useless and people around him die as a result, how exactly is this entertaining? Popping Ham with a rushed launch, thats forgivable, wasting the lives of your teammates with pointless showboat dogfighting til it gets down to the wire is not, its irritating especially when those people outside of TBLF are expecting you to do something and save them and they die because you are pointless chasing instead of getting more ammo... Its not that I hate Bo, I just don't find this aspect of him appealing at all and it bothers me every time I see it in the aircraft vids...
