- GI JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA BAD MOVIE REVIEW | Yo Joe! It's time to revisit the divisive live-action debut of the long-running GI Joe cartoon series. Plenty of long-time fans felt that the movie absolutely failed to accurately bring them to the big screen, while others thought it was a fun popcorn flick to be enjoyed with their brains turned off. So let's look back on it and determine whether or not this is lovable trash or just plain trash. I mean, Channing Tatum should have gotten nominated for an Oscar for this right? On this episode of BMR James incorrectly identifies every single character while Curt gets angrier and angrier about it.
So Channing Tatum did not want to star in this movie. He kept turning the film down but he had a multi movie deal with the studio and they forced him to do this movie. He begged to get killed off in the sequel
My favorite movie ever. I don't feel guilty about it. Also,my second favorite was D.O.A. (2006) which you made a review for thankfully as well. Hope to see more of its kind or other 2000s madness!

I think you remember badly the second one , as zartan becoming the president is what make the story start. It totally pay off

I've never seen the cartoon show, because I was too old (I was in Junior High in the mid 80's); not to mention the cartoon show was never broadcast on our local TV stations, so this is new to me.
So long ago despite it's box office, paramount and hasbro pushed out a sequel because the movie while not making money at the BO, did sell a ton of merchandise and pushed a huge increase in toy sales at Hasbro which is what had them greenlight part 2. It didn't bomb at the BO, but it would have made a tiny bit after the fact with video and so on. But the toy sales and all the tie in merch they sold made Hasbro a good chunk of change so they were willing to finance the 2nd film. Retaliation was made at a smaller budget and did better ironically.

@@BadMoviesRule The sequel is far more grounded, it's not a constant CGI fest that Rise of Cobra was. It feels very different in that sense as it's just normal guns and practical sets instead of CG everything. Willis role was fairly small too. Funny thing is that 2nd movie made more money on a smaller budget, Paramount kept announcing part 3 but they couldn't lock down the Rock so it kept getting delayed until they just cancelled it all
I have to correct Kurt about the voice actor for Cobra Commander. His name was Chris Latta. Latta was also the voice actor for Starcream and Wheeljack in the Transformers cartoon show.

To be honest, making the Baroness a victim of mind control seems like lazy writing that does a disservice to the character. Don't want her to stay evil? That's fine, but come up with something better than "she has no agency." I didn't grow up with G.I. Joe (was SUPER sheltered; we're talking borderline fundie stuff), but even I know she deserves better. I'll probably watch this movie anyway; despite its flaws, it looks like a lot of fun. By the way, I'm surprised nobody made the pun that maybe the sinking ice was made from... *heavy* water.
So this was my first time watching the channel, and you guys did not disappoint! It was a joy to watch this and feel like I was just watching a movie with a bunch of friends. You guys establish a great, comfortable feel and are hilarious! Can't wait to watch more on the channel!

Watching Curt get more and more annoyed is worth the price of admission alone.

Rise of Cobra had a great set of actors and they behaved like Real Joes from the cartoons. National landmarks get destroyed, you feel the weight of threat from Cobra. An the action was top notch. Its annoying that people liked the sequel ( which SUCKED ) more than the first film.
