- Gyeongbokgung Palace, was the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty. It is located in northern Seoul, South Korea.
In 1996, the reenactment of the Royal Guards Changing Ceremonies which started in 1469 began, with guardsmen dressed in traditional uniforms and weapons. Performing at the main gate of Gyeongbokgung Palace, it is one of those rare cultural traditions one can only experience first hand in the middle of a bustling city like Seoul.
Check on the performance times because they tend to change with the seasons like they don't perform on Tuesdays and then it rains.
Ive heard of changing of guards but i never expected it to be this ceremonial!
Gyeongbokgung Palace. Wow what a mouthful!
This is just amazing it would be a cherry in the trip to Korea!!
Just loving the colors!
Ive watched this once and I'm here fir my 4th replay, why? just love it!
I love the colors!
Korea is in my bucket list of places to go!
Ive watched other similar videos but this one's the best by far!! It's like they say MPV!!!
Yes i need to see this too!
Im taking my parents to Korea next year for their 25th wedding anniversary and im researching for my itinerary. I found this video and i think they will like this palace as part of our tour
I need to see this myself!!
Good thing they translate every movement they make
They do in Japanese, Korean, English, and I guess Chinese
This is just beautiful. Ive been planning on a Korean vacation for years now and watching this has just pushed my vacation schedule up by 3 months. Now im excited and pressured at the same time!
One of the most colorful guard costumes ive seen!!
Nice weapons!
Wonferful! I can imagine how it looked centuries ago!!
I know, right!
My first changing of guards
I wish to go there soon!
Travel travel travel thats my first item after this vacation with corona!!!
Good show!!
It's a good thing they translate every action in English
This is so awesome!!! Korea is such an entirely different culture from what i have been experiencing so far. What strikes me the most in this video is the music and sounds. Its a world away from what im used to. Korea definitely qualifies to be in my bucketlist of must see places!!!!!
Cool colors. Really bright!
Lets march shall we?
Watched!
Oh yeah!!!
Sounds like traditional instruments my grandfather played
Very nice performance only because of great video capture
the colors are amazing!
This is amazing! I never thought they had changing of guards in Korea let alone in Asia. Sorry guys not meant to offend you. This is definite must see on a prospective next vacation trip
Thats a really big drum!
We have to watch this guys!
This is very nice! The best part here is the translation in different languages. Some of the changing of guards ive witnessed first hand does'nt even allow for descritions of the why's, how's, when's and where's of the changings
Still the same performance since i last watched this
Great running video!
Thank you very much!
Glad you liked it!
I started viewing this channel alone now my wife insists we both watch together all because this channel contains a fair amount of Korean videos. Now she's even telling me to continue to encourage the Mafiaboss to churn out more Korean videos for her. Im gonna make her her own account instead!
Yes, i can see the whole picture
Saving up for my Korean trip!!!!
Very nice! Do you have a video of the morning calm garden?
A friend of mine took a side trip to seoul last summer and mentioned about watching this changing of guards. I guesd this is it...
Ive always wanted to go on an asian vacation but dont know where to start. Korea seems exotic enough though Indonesia and Thailand are top contenders. I need to watch more of these asian videos to convince myself and the wife as to where to go. Thanks for this eye opening video
It would be great to watch this first hand
DIY MafiaBoss. You seem to know every move the characters in the re-enactment would do next. You focus here then you walk there and back like in a coordinated broadcast. I believe you did all this with just one camera and the shots are quit stable.Great work man! I'll subscribe to see your future vlogs because I noticed you've improved your gear with that vlog of the East River in New York. Keep up the good work!!!!!!
I agree. Good shoot
I agree! This is a lot different from every videos like this. POV in one shot by one guy!!! Crazy awesome!
One thing to look forward to
A shout out to Lei Andrea Soriano whom ive beat this video by 4. Ive been watching this for the past 2 days now and I still cant get enough of it! Whats wrong with us?!! I think im having a Korean infatuation!!
Great parade
You can watch this performance on every 10AM and 2PM, and there is a performance on 1PM but it's different from this video and much smaller
nice
I've been to korea but never got this in my itinerary. Going back there anyway sooooo.....
This ones very different from the changing of guards ive seen. But i must say its good!
Nice to see video about Korea here. This might disturb you but i have not been to Gyeongbokgung Palace since i was 8 years old for my school field trip. After that visit i forgot all about it until RUclips videos about it started appearing. I took my girlfriend there last year but its so crowded it was not that interesting anymore. Just the guard change is the only highlight of that trip.
intense!
It doesnt look much like a changing of the guards type because the uniforms dont show the usual military attire
They look disciplined but not fearful
My winter sonata
I think i want to see this
Ahhh....I see....
Its dramatic for sure!
This is different
Does this Palace allow visitors to wear the Korean traditional costumes within their grounds? It would be nice to wear them and pose with the guards, right?
They do, and you get free admission =).
They have swords and spears for this changing. Thats different
Isnt this where you could wear Korean traditional clothes and walk around the palace?
That's the place and a lot more!!
Great costume colors and weaponry the music is just quite irritating and redundant
Not your usual changing of guards attire
Hey mafiaboss! give me more reason s to travel to asia!
Asian culture meets Western in the changing of the guards. Its the same all over the world. Now the question is....who did it first?
Amen to that!
Grrrrrrr...hate the hair photobombing hair!
it could have been a great video if not for the hair effects
9/11
