I'm reading "Tracking Bodhidharma" by Andy Ferguson right now, where he tries to determine if Bodhidharma was in fact a real person or not. In it, he teaches us about Chan Buddhism by taking us through Chinese culture. One part I found fascinating was when he gave an example of the Korean culture's love of food via Buddhism. He said that in Chinese temples, the chef is usually one of the lowest ranking monks, but in Korea, because they take food so seriously, chefs are usually one of the highest ranks! I'm curious what the temple food is really like out there. Thank you for another great video, Lama Choga. Please travel safe and keep us updated!
Funny it is the same in Tibet. The cook has a very low position, but in Korea the head chef is 2nd in rank. And also the monks will revolt if the food isn't up to scratch. There is another book worth reading called "The Zen Monastic Experience" worth reading 🙏🙏🙏
i am constantly amazed by many similarities between korean and tibetan culture like food, music, architecture and religion despite being thousands of miles apart
I love Korean zen Buddhism its where i really got my start with a book called "dropping ashes on the Buddha" it really helped me deal with trauma and living in a hectic world. Such a beautiful temple i wish i could visit someday. Thoughts of the past. Zen is in the now. I stop with red. And go with the green Like ashes drop on the buddah It just is.

My grandfather was an airplane mechanic in the Navy during the Korean war. When I was a young man I was ashamed of this mostly due to my ideological necessity to see the US as oppressive. That feeling you get when you read a good book again and realize you didn't quite understand it the first read... Korea is that effect for me. I'll never be a flag waving nationalist, but seeing the stark differences in the culture between the North and South over the last few decades have brought me to tears of pride more than a few times. Hearing that beautiful music blasting out of that temple as you paced around is now one of those times. I don't think I have the proper mindset to become Buddhist, but your videos are much more enlightening on my journey of learning about Buddhism compared to anything else I've encountered. I've read countless articles, talked to many Buddhists(was clubbed on the head by one), I have read some teachings, and have attempted meditation. Years ago I downloaded a video of a monk from Tibet who set himself ablaze, he didn't move, he didn't cry out. A couple of times a year I watch that video and wonder. To this day, I think that is one of the most amazing human acts I've perceived. Every video of yours I watch, I feel I grow closer to understanding what was going on in his noggin.

I have spent much of the past few years using the NSRVue Strong’s Bible to translate ancient Hebrew and Greek passages. The ultimate truth is very revealing and perhaps even terrifying. I have only had the opportunity to meditate at one or two Buddhist gatherings, about 15 years ago. I have attended Unitarian Universalist gatherings, Quaker and Christian churches. I have studied Norse traditions, and even have followed these religiously at times. I often fast and meditate unintentionally. Going in and out of the spirit is often second nature to me. I believe it is better to be humble and meek than to do much else. Helping others should be our primary goal.
I have just seen 43 seconds, I usually only comment after seeing the video. However, I am filled with anticipation now. Korean practise is something I sm familiar with ftom TaeKwonDo, it is one of the earliest meditating I did in life. The earliest was copying what Ryu did in the intro I saw for street fighter at an arcade. He was meditating before he jumped up and broke two crocks of water. Second tome was when I read about the technique for meditating in a book about taekwondo by the author Cho Won Sup, a korean who moved to Bergen. So this is like my roots here. Only thing missing is a street fighter cabinet.
They have something called the Palgwe. It has another eight collectibles. Principles that could be organized into eight chakras, the way I was taught it went from Keon(heaven) to Gon(earth). We had to learn this ad theory for our belt exams.

I just finished Sacred and Terrible Air, the spiritual predecessor to Disco Elysium. Really looking forward to that playthrough, BTW, gonna be great. Anyways, I was wondering; if we can rest assured that the powers which hold the world together in its present position will deliver it to destruction, both gradually and in beautiful, chaotic sweeps of energy, what is there to do? Say the far off thing becomes nearer and soon inescapable unless something is done. Death being inevitable, at what point do we do something?
Hello Mr Choga ,I would like to ask you how does one become ardent, how does one find true faith or conviction, What advice would you give to someone who is struggling with not being ardent or not believing in the teachings ?
The secret to having faith is not as many think to force oneself to believe in something. That is what we call "blind faith" the secret is to study and contemplate. For example if I ask you to find the "self" then you may look to the body or to mental experiences, bu the more you look the more confident you will become that this "self" can not be found. This will give you confidence in the Buddha's words ♥♥♥
Before zen practice, I knew that my mind and self were composed of the same matter that everyone else's mind and self were composed of. But after zen practice, I believed it.
