From how I personally interpreted this, it sounds like quest rewards would be lamp xp, but defence requirements for quests/diaries would remain, which means:
-Locked out of Between a Rock, Lunar Diplomacy, Kings Ransom, Dream Mentor, Dragon Slayer II, and Fremennik Exiles - No Lunars/Mythical cape access
-Falador (Defence), and Fremennik (Lunar Diplomacy + Between a Rock for helmet) locked at Easy Diaries
-Desert (Defence), Kandarin (Defence), Kourend (Dream Mentor) and Morytania (Defence) locked at Medium Diaries
-Lumbridge & Draynor (Defence), Western Provinces (Defence), and Varrock (Dream Mentor) locked at Hard Diaries
-Ardy and Wilderness (Not changed) go to Elite Diaries
-Varrock body 1 = steel platebody vs. Varrock body 3 = mithril platebody - can just change defence requirement to 10 or something for medium and hards, or just nerf them all to steel platebody stats since, as far as I know, there is no place that people intentionally wear varrock armor 2/3/4 for defensive purposes.
-Slayer helm still requires 10 Defence
-Add defence requirement to everything past mith gloves (Already exists for addy gloves)
This update is just QoL for pures, and a bit for zerkers. It's a limited account build, but QoL for teleports and some skilling benefits isn't going to destroy this game. If someone else's account saving 30 seconds walking somewhere and saving some time questing is going to affect how you enjoy the game....well I guess that's on you. (I'm harping on fairy ring access).
I'm just speaking for myself. You can take it however you want. If defence requirements were completely removed, I understand more disagreement towards it, especially because of lunars. I'm sure I missed stuff.

tbf any max main can tank a pure or a zerk in deep wildy (only place where they can get attack) so might as well give them the option to do quests dosent affect anything. Also seeing how much god chaps are up compared to body showes how good for the economy is including unique account
In my head, higher tier defensive armor for pures could work if it’s locked behind major progression and investment. Varrock 4 requires mostly investment, and may be wicked easy for loaded players. If the top tier armor was from somewhere like Kourend or Wildy, it would be a different story. No PvP experience btw
Giving pure’s options to risk more and hit harder isn’t a bad thing. Pures and zerks have had very limited growth from recent updates and are often outclassed in the wilderness due to traffic being in Lv20-40 wilderness..
Pures and zerks were designed in an era where they were able to thrive because of THAT environment.. the new environment caters to void, meds, and mains.. Pures and zerks could use the help.

@@Kinnr_I believe they are working on that but it takes time and interest from players for the resources to be allocated to do more.
We are obviously seeing those resources being spent on PvP more and more but these little wins help build momentum.
@@imacoolpool I think opening up the game for more challenges is a good thing. We already are doing things to benefits most builds like allowing 1def accounts to do ToB. I don’t think barrows gloves would be game breaking.
Venom, 2t PvP blowpipe, void, various BH buffs, dragon knives, voidwaker, certain prayer, etc.. these had a massive impact. Barrows gloves would be a drop in the bucket in comparison.
I think barrows gloves would bridge the small gap between 42 def and 1 def builds. Might really help 20 def depending on future prayers. But there would still be a massive gap for those pure/zerk stomper builds.
@@Reidbit Yeah definitely, I don’t know if doing it by changing Quest Experience into Lamps is the best way to go about it though.
As a 1 def pure I don't want any of this, why don't they just get that the point of restricted builds is restrictions...
They are too mommy like listening to empty peeps who just want to change things in order to feel something new and this turns things to shit always, in real life and in game. Its like spoiled kids and moms catering to them.
I feel like there are two counter intuitive design styles the Jagex team and players want - "let people play how they want" and "keep restricted content accounts restricted"

If theyre going to allow pures to basically get quest cape they need to put def requirements on the items that would grant whatever defense xp to weild.
B gloves = 35 def (lowest possible def level after questing b gloves)
Same applies to any other quest/achievement diary items.
Just like the adamant gloves which 1 def builds can obtain but still require 13 def.

This sounds good on paper, but in practice it would be very different.
I want the lamps as well as negative xp lamps.
Having armor with more defensive bonuses for a pure is counterintuitive in my opinion. The essence of a pure is quick fights and KO's
Defensive bonuses wouldn't matter on a pure anyways. With 1 Defence you will still be getting hit constantly, even in a Varrock Platebody 4.

Pures and zerks have been outclassed for a while now. Giving Pures barrows gloves would add more to the idea of “glass canon” than from the idea of “defense bonuses”.

So they removing the 35 defence required to wield barrows gloves or at least thinking about it? what about black mask? Removing the defense xp is great but there some items that require defence to even wield so it won't change pures meta drasticly.
I thought the Dino impression was a pretty good SkillSpecs impression.
The only issue I ever had with the gloves is that in RS3 you COULD obtain the adamant gloves at 1 defense.
Since ape atoll was unavailable without taking the exp for the longest time, they polled an alternative way for pures to reach the island and it failed, because the entire community spite voted against anything pvp related at the time.
So with the changes in the last little bit, they can now access the area, BUT they in turn locked the item behind a 13 defense requirement that did NOT exist prior, or in RS3.

It’s old school but not RuneScape… the items they’ve added over the years make it literally just rs3 without eoc, you can afk any skill brainlessly and bots keep the game alive
I think the best way to benefit all party is to make ALL Combat Quest EXP reward into EXP Lamp and allow players to choose any skill depending on the reward (if its combat, they can pick combat only)
Even if someone put all quest exp lamp into Prayer for example, it will probably only reach up to 1.5m exp from lamp after Quest Cape. So it's not that game breaking since you have to grind the quests tor each 1.5m exp for all the combat lamp exp rewards.
Also with this as well, it will allow Pures to have Quest Cape or Skillers to have Quest Cape as well
If they make them into lamps, it would be into the current respective exp you'd get in that quest, not in generic XP lamps.
more than just pvp changes.... the xp lamps would mean i could finally get to do my favorite content throne of miscellania and royal trouble as a defense pure without all the bond intensive and patched jank that rendi did. A diverse game is a living game.
Because of how defense works... The overall defensive bonus between the tier 1 armor and the tier 4 armor would be minimal for a pure.
The strength/accuracy bonuses. And overall function of the armor would be the main selling point. Having a defense level of 1. (Or brewing down to 1 defense) will make any character/NPC very flimsy. Even with good armor on.

Quest rewards are not the interesting restrictions we started our accounts for. The restrictions that are interesting are not being able to kill the bosses of quests easily like having to tick eat 150 attacks to kill them.
@@lennysmileyface again. You restricted yourself, a restriction is setting boundaries making your gameplay harder and less accessible to the entire game. So enjoy tick eating 150 attacks, no one told you to play the game the way you do

@@erikxi6234 I don't think you understand what I mean. We are talking about removing an arbitrary restriction of quest rewards. Not quest requirements, not how hard the boss is just letting us complete quests to unlock harder quests. Like since we have been able to attempt MM2 because of the Daero change many 10HPs have been able to complete it.
support to unlocking all quests / bosses / areas as a pure. no support to armor / gear def reqs and barrows gloves change, pures zerk and mains have their own aesthetics and qualities due to their restrictions and corresponding BIS gear available. they are fun bc fights with them feel different and the account itself is just a different experience. removing this defeats the purpose. only support quest completion since unlocking the last few areas on a pure would be nice.
I would support the idea with the right exceptions. Certain quests should be optional, others should not. Otherwise you end up with 1 attack piety or 1 def barrows gloves as people have mentioned.

Meta shift is perfect imo zerkers destroy pures as it is so it's not like they're the strongest build around.
As 1 def pure this would be nice, its so silly that Nature Spirit gives Defence XP so it just rules out Fairy Rings.
It is your choice to lock urself to 1 deff (Including myself) if its your free choice then don't cry that you're locked out of content. Otherwhise we could keep on going, make an iron, but with a shop where u can sell ur dupes back for gold. Imagine

Yes, they should at least change nature spirit so pures are able to use fairy rings. Helps out a lot already with PVM (abyssal sire for example), clue steps (different islands), diaries and more.

If you were a pure, no way in hell you’d get butthurt because the devs patched in a QoL update to allow you to use fairy rings or simply change your varrock tele to the GE tele after the varrock medium diaries.. follow your own medicine, if you don’t like something, simply just don’t participate in it 👶

OSRS is slowly becoming what classic was, a Safe Space. The game has very limited time they keep trying to cater to the entire audience.

I think we need to lower the range requirements for tbow to lvl 15 range, my lvl 15 ranger pure is locked out of all tbow content and it wouldnt make a difference to ppl that already have the levels for it

If all exp was converted to lamps …. Wouldn’t it be so that 1 attack 1 prayer 1 def pures could have all quests done that would typically require insane stats and pray requirements due to sub quests … this would completely unbalance everything and most people would be making new accounts specifically due to this

How about making rev caves content not catered to bots? Or actually banning raggers in pvp worlds or F2P PK worlds? Why randomly say "I'd be fine with b gloves on pures" instead of going after the issues that literally plague anyone that tries the content?

F2p pking is very balanced at max combat . Pures and rune pures in f2p after 78 cb become almost useless to accounts with higher def lvls. I don't understand why jagex never updated f2p to satisfy the rune pure / med bracket in f2p. I also will never understand why jagex let kids rag people in f2p 24/7 to the point people quit f2p pking for good. And the itemers have destroyed the multi pk communy. It's absolutely sad .

?? half info in first minute is wrong. the diary armor has a def req apart from the quests. also b gloves the xp doesnt come from the quest it having to speak to dareo to wild gloves. so g bloves on 1 def still not possible
Instead of making pures use armor and game items that was made for different builds why not just make new 1 defense gear maybe put it in Bh for new items

Until Jagex does something about their Bot Detection (which they won’t-just look at the Online Player Count after an Update, 75% are Bots) I quit after my False Ban, and probably won’t be coming back.

I have always thought why not make quest reward xp optional and never require combat stats, aka allowing you do in theory get a questcape on a lv 3. We've seen the firecape xzact vs rendi saga to lv3 firecape, the lowest questcape would be sick to see. And sorry to say pvp is already fucked with oneshotbuilds on low levels so i honestly couldnt care if they can do some quests- but giving items a defensive req would seem fair still. Like completing RFD without gaining any cmb xp if you dont want it, but cant wear higher gloves if they have a higher def req etc, but i guess it may be arbritrary? Either way would vote yes
Getting rid of combat stat requirements would mean you'd need to do stuff like enabling various spells at level 1 magic (e.g. telegrab, blast spells) and allowing various gear (that aren't locked behind quests but are required for them) to be worn with level 1 stats, allow access to the upstairs of the monastery with 1 prayer, etc. It would completely destroy the balance of the whole game. That or require a complete rewrite of every quest with combat stat reqs.
i did not think of that as for telegrab, but temporary acces during some quest steps doesnt seem to break much like monastery upstairs unless i miss something huge? imagine the tickeats zero prayer 1 def dt2 bosses etc, itll be rare but some people will go for the challenge is all id like to see:P but you're right, maybe its not feasable for all quests@@ixiolirion8781altho they have altered quests before allowing skillers to bypass combat sections (after making them required for like box traps etc) but we'll see!

Would absolutely love that exp lamp thing for quests or whatever. Genuinely hate how I can’t simply do Varrock Medium diaries for the GE teleport without getting defende exp. Something like that shouldn’t be a thing in a game tbh. We should be allowed to either train out stats in reverse or simply block certain stats to block exp in.

It's not a bad idea for pures. It most likely won't make much of a difference and they will still be very restricted, but if you are a main, there is always new content pouring in including weapons, armor, bosses etc. As with a pure though, nothing new ever really gets implemented, which would be a nice change to see for once. (I've always wanted to see a +1 strength helm slot for them.) So I am for it.

Who cares, game is just an old school version of RS3 now. I mean look what they have planned for this year. Look at all the crazy gear. Power creep is off the charts. Bots running amuck. Now they are making sweeping changes to combat. Think about the direction we are heading. It will only get worse. It's a runaway train at this point and most players are straddling the fence if they even care to play this game anymore. You go to the g.e and it's nothing but bots spamming scams in the chat. Real player interaction is rare these days. Most players I run into are an empty faceless bot mindlessly farming gp in some way.
Nobody advocating for quest xp turned to lamps really cares about varrock armor 4.
We care about fairy rings, spirit trees for 1 attack, and barrows gloves. Thats pretty much it really.

Get defence levels. If the gear is good enough, get it. This creates *more* builds, as without that exp EVERY account would just have all the gear available to it regardless of sacrificing prayer or defence XP.
A 1 prayer build is barely locked out of content, and the content it is locked out of realyl requires prayer anyway. 1 defence locks a few more bosses .But 1 defence PvM accounts can still do like 90%+ of the games PvM.
Bring back multi revs you'll see increase of players and give a rev boss pet.

As a 1 defence pure I like the way Jagex changed Monkey Madness 1 and 2. For the near future I'd like to see at least a change to nature spirit quest, so I can use the fairy rings. It will unlock more content such as PVM (Abyssal Sire instead of the Abyss), different clue stops (to islands) and diaries.
This community fears change a little too much. Metas are meant to grow and change as the player base does.
True but the playerbase has grown completely away from pvp or caring about pvp updates.
