I'm an occasional viewer. I currently live on a sailboat, but spent many days and nights camping, backpacking and hiking. As you can imagine, I'm subscribed to a few sailing channels. Over the past four years, I've had to unsubscribe from quite a few because of their reviews of products. I really appreciate your no agenda and no politics approach. I also appreciate that you'll only review products on your terms and that you're not a sellout. You've just gained a new subscriber!
Luke, you make camping so effortlessly but only because of your years of experience and painstaking preparation. You are also extremely smart and know when to turn back; you've done that many times. Nature is beautiful but unforgiving.
Luke, he could have easily fallen, smacked his nose on a rock, developed a epidural bleed and hematoma. Smack your head, your nose on a rock and it’s easy to get a bleed inside your head. I have seen it happen to a healthy, young man, having blood taken for routine tests. He feinted and his head hit the floor. Sometimes it takes a few hours if the bleed is slow. He was taken to surgery and had to have big holes drilled in his skull to relieve the pressure. Been providing healthcare for decades. It happens. It’s incredible how delicate we are in some ways, how resilient we can be other times…from an old veteran, retired in the east Tennessee foothills of the Smokies.
I have always been taught you need to regulate the valve on self inflating mats. When you first buy it, unroll it and inflate it. Leave it a few hours. Then, open the valve and roll the mat slowly to force out the air. Once rolled up, close the valve. You have now created a vacuum inside the mat. The hardest bit is inflating it. You open the valve and unroll it slowly. As it unroll, the vacuum socks in the air. The trick is to match the vacuum speed with the roll speed. It just takes some practice. Great video again though
I really appreciate your honest reviews and willingness to share what companies in this space send to you ragardless if its a warranty issue or a review request. Thank you for your dedication to this community.
Be careful with that fire my friend! I was a little surprised that you didn't clear away all of the fallen leaves near your fire pit. Glad it all worked out well.
TOMOUNT is the real deal! Loved the content. Couldn't agree more that integrity is NOT for sale. Sadly these days there is very little of it. Nice to have a place to camp that doesn't require a reservation, has a thousands rules or is subject to jerks and party animals.....eh?
There is no need for you to feel remotely responsible for this gentleman's death. Regardless of whether they are recording it or not, a certain kind of folks always have and always will like to go on solo camping trips. Even if RUclips did not exist, he probably would have been out there doing what he loved that night just the same. 💕
Talking about the young guy that died end the weird circumstances, I agree hypothermia was probably a factor. The fact that there was a fall where he broke his nose, it is also possible she had a head injury or a brain bleed. As a paramedic, i've seen some of these and they can take time to manifest. Either one of those factors alone is a recipe for disaster but combined. The poor guy probably didn't have a chance. Thanks for the content, you offer wealth of knowledge and information that I use now that I'm getting back into this stuff!
I just love your brutally honest and unsolicited reviews of various products. Big fan here. Been following your channel for years over and over. Probably watched most of your videos three or four times. Keep up the great content and keep them reviews coming.
I believe with the air mat you don't leave the valve open like that. you have to flip it over so it sucks air in but won't let air out. Being halfway like that won't do anything. And I believe if you flip it the other way then it lets air out but won't let air in
While that youtuber’s death was tragic, you already dedicated an entire video to it so I didn’t need to hear it all again and skipped it. I prefer when you stick to the task at hand and I appreciate that you have integrity when it comes to how you review products.
You are completely right about nature punishing mistakes. I just want to say that there are still situations you cannot prepare for. Be as careful as you can and you will probably survive every scenario but preparing for the worst might not save you in extreme conditions. Sometimes you are just unlucky. Poor boy..
Luke, it poured up here in New England on Thanksgiving too. Liked the editing with the frames. That outdoor company gave you the best endorsement saying “If we need an honest review,” Strength and Honor!!
I have merino wool under garments and wool socks. I check the weather before I go and also have a Buddy heater. I just got a heating pad too. I prefer to get an electric site and use a heater…boogie. At 65 I camp like this video. Cabin tent, self inflating foam mattress, Ecoflow….❤
The area I live in, there’s a mountain range called the Adirondacks . A man who went climbing about 2 weeks ago is missing and the local authorities have no idea where he is.
Utah Jeff ……I noticed this person who died camping did not have a lot of gear and probably did not research the weather. I have been in -25f weather camping and survived and I did not lose any of the Boy Scouts that were with me. They did enjoy the fire and all the wood I brought. We had snow 25 inches of snow. A 25 f camping trip in Utah in the fall and winter is normal. In many places cell phone service is not available. Like the Scouts say “ Be Prrpared”
Its fun to catch a video of yours so close to upload. I'm gonna surely enjoy this content as I do most of your videos. Here's hoping you and your family have a wonderful holiday season. Cheers from Thunder Bay!
I was so happy to see a video out from you today Luke! It's positively freezing 🥶 outside and I'm dreading leaving the house.I love the cabin style tent. If I were to ever get me a tent It would definitely be that kind. Nice cozy campfire and a delicious dinner! Now I'm wanting me a big ole cheeseburger! That means I'm going to end up having to leave the house after all. Great video as always ❤
Great video. Thank you, Luke. As some people have already mentioned there is a little error in the temperatures that you give. 38 degrees Fahrenheit is about 3 degrees Celsius. Doesn’t make the video any worse. Loved it, as always!
Unfortunate that these companies that are marketing their products are not honest, and as such should not be supported, totally agree. but on that note of this camp out, talk about dedicated, leaving just minutes to get over to family for Thanksgiving, great channel and love the content is all I can say!
to me every time you go out camping in the snow i think your nuts plus you doing it for a living so different to me saying that i never camped in my life love watching
Hi Luke. I have long valued your reviews of outdoor gear for your complete honesty and integrity and I treat your channel as the gold standard. I have been very pleased to follow your recommendations on a number of occasions. p.s. It is helpful of you to provide the temperature in degrees centigrade (at 8.01) for European subscribers but I think the equivalent to 38F degrees is more like 3.3C. Sorry.
You should try and do a review on vesta cooking heater stove. My wife and I bought one and we do enjoy the system that provides us with cooking and heat. Vesta cooking heater has 2 components which is bottom price that you can put 3 6hr can fuel and the top part is a heater that blows het with a fan.
Late stage hypothermia, just before unconsciousness, the body starts to feel hot, and people often remove clothing. The medical term is Paradoxical Stripping.
Great Content as always! happy holidays. Is sad how IA is been abused, cause is not your voice they are exploiting is your credibility. Hope you can share the company later, at least we can help on bringing awarenes to others. I comment so few times but your channel is great. I had the best reviews and good decissions from your comments. Thank you once more and wish for you many good adventures in the future. Luke, thank you for your honesty greetings from Mexico
Luke, Great looking tent, table and stove, and fire pit….just wondering why you used the fire pit in lieu of just having your fire on the ground…as always enjoyable video. One other thought your cooler bag appears to be different than the one in your equipment list…the one you are using s a great looking bag….
Hey Luke I love the all the new gear. Let it rain let it rain 🌧️. Would you review a heated camping chair? Please say hello to sweet Susie. I love the photo of sweet Susie on your phone ❤ it's sad their are so many EVIL people out there. You are a very honest person and they know it. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your beautiful family.🦃 MS Ann ♥️
Hey Luke, thank you as usual. Amazing work for so many years. I have a question. I'm looking for a large backpack that i can use in freezing winter conditions and carry a Hilleberg Soulo BL + Thermarest Xtherm + winter sleeping bag, food, water, chair, down jacket etc. What size of backpack would you go for? 75liters or maybe 85liters to be safe?
I wanted to ask you about the area you live in . How are people doing as far as clean up from the hurricane? I’ve been praying for all the people still homeless who have no place to go. My heart just hurts just thinking about the victims.💜
Luke what is your opinion on the light fighter 2 man tent I'm strongly considering buying one. I have bought some of the item's you have used through out your camping adventures.
I bought that same table set up with burner, when I put all the plates in and the stove, do you still have a 1/4 gap in the spacing, just not a tight fit or even snug, mine has a gap, I am not sure if that is how it is or just got a bad spacing one.
Yes, you can make them take that AI down of your voice. I just aw it happen to Drake, the rapper who used 2Pac's voice. His family sent a cease and desist letter to take it down and he did.
Maybe interior seam sealing and a good spray down all over with a silicone spray. I’m afraid that if it has dry rotted…it’s too late. Time for a new tent…
Interesting Tent. I'm delighted that it provided "shelter" fro the storm. Thanks for adding me to you know what. I especially like the "Agenda Free" reviews of gear that you provide. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada
Love the look of the tent. No one is to blame in the young man's death, thing happen. You can be so prepared that just one thing can go bad & you can die. Feel bad his family. Please keep making your videos love watching them. It makes me miss my younger life, when camping was fun. My body didn't hurt after a nigh of sleeping on the ground. ❤
Those copywriter issues you've experienced are why my videos have been removed. Between music copywriter and equipment companies using my screen shots or images it was too much for me.
I am not sure the pro and cons on exposing these companies doing this to you, but I think I would want to expose and let people know the companies that are doing this, I am sure you have reasons why you do not do that.
It's possible that a branch from above dealt the first blow to Storm, and hypothermia finished him off. His parent's said that he passed away doing what he loved. Keep up the good work, I like your approach to testing in field conditions and over time. Also: Illegitimi non carborundum Have a happy, productive and peaceful New Year.

That's one good thing about this channel - not many like it in that regard. Living on a sailboat must be great

You’re an honorable man Luke, I love when you talk to us.
Really liked the editing on this one, very engaging and doesn’t go unnoticed!

That is a really good idea for a tent. I can see that being a good Family tent for Spring/Summer/Fall.
I just love your brutally honest and unsolicited reviews of various products. Big fan here. Been following your channel for years over and over. Probably watched most of your videos three or four times. Keep up the great content and keep them reviews coming.

Correct. Operator Error!

That's a nice looking tent. Kinda reminds me of the bungalow.
Your a man with integrity

I really like this tent Luke.
Mad respect to you sir! Love watching you.

Cool intro! I like that tent. Nice having a canopy.
This video is why we love you

Jeeze that beginning, I thought we were getting a scene from The Full Monty 🤣😂🤣😂
New editing choices huh? Love the creativity
That pad looks brand new, and if that is brand new then most manufacturers say 24hrs for the first time use and less the more u use it
Good vid. Thanks . Keep it up Luke.
AWESOME VIDEO!
Want Burger !! Interesting tent style, looks cozy.
merry christmas to you and your family

thumb and head nodding at 14:12
Cheers mate
I like the.looks of that tent, even without seeing how it performs, I'm leaning into it! Thanks for the videos, for the love🥾🥾
Yo watching you make that burger and not getting a bite is straight up torture
Have a Happy Thanksgiving 🍁🦃 great video. Thanks Luke for always being here.
Do you worry about critters when keeping food in your tent?
I've only seen 'TheOutdoorGearReview' and Lars from 'Survival-Russia' pay homage to the fallen Storm de Buel. Righteous!
Great video. Thank you, Luke.
As some people have already mentioned there is a little error in the temperatures that you give. 38 degrees Fahrenheit is about 3 degrees Celsius.
Doesn’t make the video any worse. Loved it, as always!
53.3°C? That’s really hot Jimmy!
Ooh yes! The Wolfpack is gonna fry!

Mmm I can almost feel the warmth of the fire
Pigsah is not even letting anyone in the work on the trails. It's like they have something to hide.
Les Stroud is the original and the GOAT
There were people doing it years before Les.
to me every time you go out camping in the snow i think your nuts plus you doing it for a living so different to me saying that i never camped in my life love watching
Wow you have a hot night coming 58c!!! 😮
Yeh the 58 degrees C made me chuckle

Have you ever found traces of other people on your property?
this tent looks cool.. but thus far, nothing has yet to beat both your Massif & Dune7.6 from Naturehike.. 😆😆
That tent could lean forward and have no tarp, just a door. Maybe a tent cover.
Hi Luke, What type of phone do you now have? It looks like a folding type.
Late stage hypothermia, just before unconsciousness, the body starts to feel hot, and people often remove clothing. The medical term is Paradoxical Stripping.
At 18.30 Burger King smells good tastes bad. Had me laughing. And it's true.
6:48 Air mattresses are like us. They can suffer serious gas bloat problems, even severe hernias!
Luke where is Suzie? We miss her and would love to c her
A fact and truth Luke this is why I am glad my friend shared your videos with me Luke
lol 24:30 I thought the tent was collapsing at first.
Odd note on air as an insolator, the human body continually loses heat to it.
Burgers are never, ever, ever, ever served with Mashed Potatoes. Not where rational thought exists.

Wished you would have dropped the name of the company. But then again, who knows what kind of frivolous litigation that would trigger.
Your sick mayo & ketchup, you need some serious help bub!!!
TOGR single handedly reviewing everything from the Chinese district of Shenzhen.

I don’t get this type of tent. It’s all fun and games till the rain comes. Slanted sides with no awnings? Sweatbox!
Yes, you can make them take that AI down of your voice. I just aw it happen to Drake, the rapper who used 2Pac's voice. His family sent a cease and desist letter to take it down and he did.
Question for everyone; what is best to use on older tents to prevent dry rotting, and making water proof??
Maybe interior seam sealing and a good spray down all over with a silicone spray. I’m afraid that if it has dry rotted…it’s too late. Time for a new tent…

What's the name of that small backpack used in your vid?
28:06 That shady company's products going to unalive someone in the field from all the lies they trying to force narrative.
Why do I have a feeling on your next adventure when you cook outside, you're not gonna have any salt or pepper.
Timestamp 8.02: 38F = 53.3C....😂
I’m sorry but what is the name of the small green backpack?
Those copywriter issues you've experienced are why my videos have been removed. Between music copywriter and equipment companies using my screen shots or images it was too much for me.
Stupid question but what kind of foldable phone is that?
why is the mountain called lone wolf mountain?
Hey Luke how are you powering the heating pad????????
Do you ever rough it? You camp like a king. Lol
Jackery solar battery"solar generator" maybe Explorer 1000 V2, works as UPS also!

The cap is off
Large? That's a small tent. Nothing cabin about it at all. Disappointed with the misleading title.
Moving your place from seated in the shelter to standing in front of the thumbnail does not make it any more real if the packs are out in the rain.
