Hi Benjamin, thanks! My teacher Anthony Jackson gave me the most universal and single most piece of advice; PLAY ALONG TO RECORDINGS. There's no formula, and there's also no substitute for logging in hours on the bass. Play music and don't just exercise your fingers. Best to you, Jimmy
Hi James I have been playing bass for at least 40 years. It is the first time I hear the bass part of "Think" playing with the groove of the great Donald "Duck" Dunn. You impressed me. You have the Rhythm'n'Blues and the Soul Music in your heart.
Walter Gottardi Well thank you so much Walter, that’s quite a compliment. Not sure if I fully deserve it, but glad to have made that impression on you. Plus I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a much needed little ego boost over here lol
Hi Merl, thanks so much! I was definitely feeling it on this. I wish I stretched out a bit more but I just played it pretty much note for note, thought it was a good take & posted it up. Thanks again! Best, Jimmy
I must say, all your basses are nice, but this is one punchy, growly bass---what a tone:). I might add, this bass is my favorite! It was lucky to fall into the hands of the perfect caretaker to express it!
@@antonio.montenegro No not flatwounds. Nothing special, just med-lights whatever was on sale. I use flats in Leroy Brown video on my page. Sorry for the slow response
You are a top notch studio bassist. Perfect tone. Clean as hell. Tight focus on keeping the lines within an appropriate scope. Total understanding of theory. Impressive
Now this is a great song !!...Love the bass in it ...thanks for posting this ..Now I know how to play it on bass as well ...You taught me something new ..By Posting this old Great song ...
Wow great stuff! I am just learning the bass but I love this and want to be able to play it some day. I just need to figure out exactly what to learn besides running bass scales all day lol. Guess I need to figure a good schedule of practice, do you have any tips by any chance? Thanks and have subscribed.
Extremely magnificent! but why is this bass a bit quiet!? It should play first fiddle! you play very genuine, i wish one day i could do a show like this!
frankrail Hi and thanks! I use whatever, usually D'Darrios, .45-1.05 medium lights. Nickel. I like whatever though, as long as the tension is good. I have a bass that's dedicated to flatwounds, heavy, but that's a specialty bass.
I put the bass through the pre-amp of a Roland Micro Cube on an Ampeg pre-set. I EQ out the bass freq of the Mp3 and put that and my bass (and sometimes a vocal mic) through a little mixer, then run it to the computer to Quicktime.
Awesome. This bassline makes me want to get the band back together.
By far the best bass cover of this track on here fella with plenty of life, passion and soul. Nice one fair play to you.

Great job, man ! Can we have the sheets ?
Thank you!! All by ear. I can read traditional sheet music, but no tabs for me if that's what you mean.
Gracias acabo de darme cuenta q no soy el unico q apolla el dedo gordo sobre el mic del bajo..jajaja😄
Nice playing and nice bass tone! Is this a P-Bass from the 70s?
Giovanni Caramori Thanks! Yes it’s a ‘76. At this recording it had EMG active pickups. I’ve since replaced them with Sullivan passive pickups.
EMG pickups are so "punchy"..keep on rockin', cheers!

+gia23456nfre Thanks a lot!
Ever thought of covering any Blockheads songs? Norman Watt-Roy and you groove the same.
Damn I gotta look them up.
Thanks a lot man! Gotta get off my ass and do some more...

+CJ Haze Haha thanks!!

Awesome sounding P bass. What type and brand of strings are you using?

HAMO 20131121 - Aretha Franklin - "Think" drum cover
P.S. find a drummer friend to play with as well.
Alright bro, what are you playing through to get that fat tone?!?
I put the bass through the pre-amp of a Roland Micro Cube on an Ampeg pre-set. I EQ out the bass freq of the Mp3 and put that and my bass (and sometimes a vocal mic) through a little mixer, then run it to the computer to Quicktime.
This is a great bass cover, well done. Have a look at my stuff too.
Hi Kurt Cobain
Haha!
tabs?
+Troll Productions Not sure, I did it by ear, sorry
