    Quintessential Canadian Rockers April Wine to be inducted to Canadian Music Hall of FameThe Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) is pleased to announce the induction of hard-rock band, April Wine, to the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In 2009, the group marked its 40th anniversary a celebrated span of time that has produced an impressive repertoire of hits among its 16 studio albums all which have surpassed gold status. April Wine will receive their honour at THE 2010 JUNO AWARDS in St. Johns, Newfoundland and Labrador, on Sunday, April 18th during CTVs live broadcast.
    April Wine formed in late 1969 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but vocalist/guitarist Myles Goodwyn, guitarist David Henman, drummer Ritchie Henman and bassist Jimmy Henman soon moved to Montreal. "Fast Train," their first hit, appeared in 1971, the same year as the self-titled debut album. Jimmy Henman left soon after and was replaced by Jimmy Clench. The next year brought the band's first Canadian number one single, "You Could Have Been a Lady," from On Record. David and Ritchie Henman left before the next album, Electric Jewels, could be recorded; they were replaced by Jerry Mercer and Gary Moffet. After April Wine Live (1974) and Stand Back (1975), Steve Lang replaced Clench, who left to join Bachman-Turner Overdrive and later Loverboy. In 1976, The Whole World's Goin' Crazy became the first Canadian album to go platinum and their resulting tour was the first to gross one million dollars. Forever for Now appeared in 1976, followed by April Wine Live at the El Mocambo in 1977. Guitarist Brian Greenway was added that same year, making the band a sextet. After 1978's First Glance and 1979's Harder...Faster, "Just Between You and Me" became April Wine's biggest U.S. hit. The single (one of three Top 40 American singles by the band) propelled 1981's Nature of the Beast to platinum-record status. Power Play followed in 1982, and 1984's Animal Grace was their last album. Myles Goodwyn recorded his first self titled solo album in 1988. Four years later, all the original members joined for a Canadian tour, which convinced them to resume recording. "If You Believe in Me," the band's first single in eight years, was followed by 1993's Attitude. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

    I'll never forget walking into a school dance a few minutes late and this was playing as I walked in. Kids were dancing and I was just trying to find where the girls were sitting. I was a shy girl, so walking in to those cow bells did my head in. But, what a time we had that night and I saw April Wine in concert many times after that. I must say we had the time of our lives back then because of the music!!

    • @bobbyc1367
      @bobbyc1367 6 лет назад +3

      Wow. I was 13 when this song was out and I too walked into our school dance late. It was dark, so dark one had to look down so as not to step on things. And that cowbell started as i Performed my late walk of shame and it did me in as well, i mean who needs that beautiful sound of a mix of cowbell and railroad crossing when one wants to be unnoticed. And i found all my buds on the far left bleachers, sitting there as though a mid 70's sausage party.

    • @jamierieger7179
      @jamierieger7179 6 лет назад +2

      Ha! It was a mid-70s sausage party. The girls were on the other side of the gym trying to figure out the dynamics of line-dancing cos you shy boys weren't asking!

      It's actually a fire bell - maybe from a school. It currently sits on a cymbal stand in Kingston Ontario at Joe's MILL (musical instrument lending library). Jerry Mercer lives in the area and I'm assuming he donated it.

    • @rhythmista7707
      @rhythmista7707 3 года назад +4

      Jamie Rieger- Actually, as a drummer, I can say 100% that its actually a fire engine bell, and not a cowbell. 👍I saw April Wine in a Montreal bar in 1999, and drummer Jerry Merser had it hanging on stage as part of his drum kit.

    It's a shame that this Canadian band did not receive the recognition it deserved. There are so many good tunes from them, and hardly anyone realizes they were a Canuck fixture for two decades. I recall listening to them on AM radio in the early 70s and then on a local FM rock station in the 80s. Great memories when you hear one of these tunes.

    I can proudly say that I saw this band open their set with this song in front of 40,000 nut jobs at " Grand Slam Super Jam '80 " at Busch Stadium in St. Louis . What a day ! Super hot and not a cloud in the sky . Drugs and booze galore . Crowd getting sprayed with fire hoses . " Acid Rescue " was set up in both dugouts on either side of the field . Fights left and right . Endless firecrackers and projectiles . Banners getting set on fire . Lotsa nudity . Bumping into friends everywhere . I got a helluva sunburn and left that show comfortably numb . Just an intense atmosphere ! Shooting Star , April Wine , Judas Priest , Journey , and Sammy Hagar headlined . April Wine and Judas Priest were a devastating 1 - 2 punch for this kid ! Aaaahhh , the good ol' daze......

    Oowatanite
    April Wine
    Baby let's move cause you know that the light here
    Really hurts my eyes
    I come from a world where the light is dim
    And the people not so jive
    So fine, you know it's gonna be
    So come on, come on, come on, come one baby
    Come on if you want it to be
    Oowatanite, everything'll be alright
    Come on, come on, love me tonight
    And I'll be yours till the sun comes up
    Ooh baby, you know the time is right
    We are the light of two foreign ships, passing in the night
    So fine, you know it's gonna be
    So come on, come on, come on, come on baby
    Come on if you want it to be
    Oowatanite, everything will be alright
    Come on, come on, love me tonight
    And I'll be yours till the sun comes up, again
    Oowatanite, everything'll be alright
    Come on, come on, love me tonight
    And I'll be yours till the sun comes up
    Ooh baby, don't hang me on the line
    Life don't wait if you hesitate, come on quit wasting time
    I know, you wonder if it's right
    I just need a straight-shootin' woman to get me through the night
    So come on, come on, come on, come on baby
    Come on if you want it to be
    Oowatanite, everything'll be alright
    Come on, come on, love me tonight
    And I'll be yours till the sun comes up, again
