I feel curious, if I can "do as if I know how to develop" with the linux kernel, trying to implement new things on it. Surely I can't. But I think that's an experience I want to test. One of my "impossible" dreams is to run ReactOS on the WII.

I decided to try out the Debian 5.0 LXDE iso file and etched it with BalenaEtcher, but it seems when I load into the environment it’s not in color. If you wouldn’t mind if I asked, what do you think is wrong?
You have to change the video signal to NTSC, PAL50 or PROGRESSIVE depending upon your configuration. The config file is on the BootMii partition in the Gumboot folder. It's the Gumboot config file.
DerNuntius ok so I had an issues with the dwm as it would show the numbers from 1-9 however when I did control alt t it would not open a terminal. And even when I tried typing without doing control alt t it would not work so I watched your new modipy video and I might try it but for now, I installed that image and was able to boot into Debian and use the terminal. My question will any USB to Ethernet adapter work as I’m not sure how to configure wifi here and also if I plug the Ethernet adapter do I need to do anything or will it work like a regular wii/pc that automatically connects to the internet
If the ethernet adapter is supported in Linux 3.x I configured it to be plug and play. For example the original Nintendo Wii ethernet adapter works perfectly out of the box.

Yea so the wii has a powerpc based processor i.e native x86 software needs a translation layer/emulator (QEMU). But most of the debian library is ported to PowerPC so you can run pretty much everything. A lightweight music server works (upcoming video) but for resource intensive applications the RAM is simply to small.
You mentioned in the video that you were able to create different distros with different kernels, did you rip the pre-made mike kernels for the wii, or were you successful in compiling then from scratch? I've been trying to compile a 5.x kernel without any success for the wii.

In fact I installed OS X Tiger on it with QEMU. But it's only emulated and veeerry slow. I saw someone running Win XP via QEMU on a Wii... It's kinda cool but nothing special.

DerNuntius as I mentioned above when I don’t have a boot 2 wii so go to launch nmtui on rhe dwm build I can’t connect to the internet however on your Mopidy image for some reason it works and I can connect to the internet so I was wondering how I could get your dwm build or any builds of dwm on your mopidy image as I’m not too familiar with Debian.

You can choose between the newest kernel 3.x that is still officially maintained or the 2.x Mikep5 release. There are separate builds/images in my repository.
If you compile a new kernel 4.something you can use a modern gentoo ppc stage3, however I couldn't make the network to work and I don't remember where did I got the kernel, also I wasn't able to sucessfully compile one by myself (must be a recent mainlind kernel previous to 4.5, not mike ones)..
@@simpleman4215 The original SD spec has a maximum capacity of 2GB. It's enough for a basic embedded Linux system. But because the 3.x kernel is still supported by GCC I don't see a reason to use a 4.x kernel. Compiling is really not different to "normal" Linux kernel compiling. You need QEMU to emulate the Power ISA. Maybe I'll make a little tutorial but I'm pretty busy with my Power Mac project :)
Sure you can do anything that is cross platform compatible. But consider the memory limitation :) Edit: NoteJS is not ported to ppc32, so there's no way of running NoteJS applications on the Wii.
Lubuntu 16.04 for PPC works. Make sure you have the power pc ISO, not amd64 or i386. You can burn the ISO to a disc or even try usb booting which sometimes works for G3 iMacs.
How do you extract rootfs.tar im getting error that the file is damaged what software do you use to extract i tryed linux then 7zip, Winrar, PowerISO, Winzip, And also I dont know how to use dd on Linux;(
I used the prepared image and not the standalone RootFS. All files are gzip2 (tar.gz) encoded. So in Linux the extract command is (tar xvzf filename.tar.gz). But you can also open it with 7zip.

Haha not on the Wii... The lack of RAM is probably the biggest bottleneck. But RUclips videos and actual computing will work on the Wii U just great :)

DerNuntius, I learned that Wi-Fi does not work if bootmii is installed as an IOS. So I would think that solved most of my problems.

I didn't install any desktop environment. DWM is just a lightweight tilting window manager.

I could read "qemu" in your commands, qemu is an emulator, it means this is not native linux install on the wii with real drivers

Actually I compiled the 4.x LTS kernel but I have no legacy SD card. The 4.x kernel has no working SDHC stack.

@@dernuntius679 The Reason why i do it manually is because when I'm Using .img The FAT32 has no more Space left for Homebrew Application
That means no RFS was found. Consider using the "--strip-components 1" option when extracting the RootFS. Sometimes it won't extract the full path.
