The more pottery I produce, the more I'm amazed by your work. By happenstance, I'm currently working on a set of ~50 espresso cups (without handles) for a friend. While I'm reasonably happy with my cups, your exacting standards, clear intention, and precision in every step are all profoundly inspiring for my own continued improvement. I owe your instruction far too much thanks for a comment to express, but thank you anyways! I look forward to your book!

Thank you so much Tanner! Seriously, you're far too kind. I appreciate you taking your time to watch, that along is thanks enough, as all the ad revenue from RUclips goes into helping fund my studio and raw materials. I can't wait for the book to be released either! What a joy that'll finally be to share with you all. Take care!

@@OmaOmaOthere were brief pictures you can freeze frame on the video the one about making teapots from start to finish. There was also a frame showing a whole shelf of his work. It’s practical useful pieces which I really like. Have a look through that video and you can see pieces.

I'm not a potter, but have bought 25lbs of clay looking for inspiration to start. I am a chocolatier by learned passion and have made thousands of bonbons, all hand touched. There is something to be said about making 100+ things by hand look exactly the same, and my process had about 8 different steps to get my finished product. Your video reminded me of that and and patience it takes to get there. When a hobby becomes a passionate business you do what is necessary. Your finishing skills set you apart! Thank you for sharing!

Florian, I am a wood worker and boat builder who came to your video's via Alex. I was constantly in awe of how you use your hands as precision tools and your set ups for consistency. I have a wide variety of mostly antique hand tools that i use in a multitude of ways to achieve the desired results in my craft, but I can't tell you how many times my jaw dropped during this video. You are a highly calibrated machine, but so much more than that because you have the human touch. I believe the hand finishing imprints your signature all over a piece and your style is all of these. Thank you for sharing your skills, one day I will be enjoying my coffee from one of your cups.

I follow several potters and pottery enjoyers and a lot of them are very good! But none are the perfectionist that you are, and sometimes? You spoil me. Your work just has that extra touch of satisfying perfection that only comes with years and years of training and hard work, and it shows ❤
Hope Ciro's okay! That scream was very upsetting and I think we all had a jump scare 😂

Once again your video reminds me that the making of a successful pot is not as much in the throwing it on the wheel but in the slow drying, working on the piece in multiple sessions and the careful eye to detail. Someone told me this week to treat each piece as if it's a masterpiece. You definitely do this and I definitely need to work on this more. Thanks for another great video.

I'm not sure how people like you function, skilled and disciplined workers in love with their craft, satisfied by the work itself and not just by the end of it and the reward of it.
I'm personally appalled by the ridiculous lengths we've gone to, to ensure so many people have work to do, whether it is useful work or not. Whether they sell wasteful polluting junk or not.
I can appreciate that you've found a way to create objects that are pretty useful, and that you're enjoying it. Personally I find myself wasting steel and energy on massive, ugly, costly decor.
And I do not enjoy it much at all, much like I have never enjoyed any line of work in my entire life.

Thanks so much, well, these will shrink by 12%, so they may be more appropriate. I do mention in the video that they’re more like “mini-mugs’ due to their size but let’s see. I’ve had a LOT of espresso in cups that are too big during my travels around the world and in Italy, where the espresso is just a pool in the bottom of the cup, it doesn’t need to fit it perfectly. Anyway, the title of the video really was to just give it some context, as opposed to just tiny cups!

Do you turn the slip from your hands & the side of pots into reclaimed clay? Is this possible with Laguna (at least I believe it’s Laguna) BMix with grog? I don’t have a kiln. I have also only been throwing clay on the wheel for a few months. The last time I worked on the wheel & had access to a kiln was some 20yrs ago. My husband was able to clear some space for me to setup a small studio space. Our girls were really young & needed me more. The girls are now grown women.
Forgive me for not knowing the brand off hand. Hubby cleared my garden & he extended it by more than half of what it was last year. I’m actually behind in planting; hwr, last year I had seeds & seedlings in the ground early then suffered thru losing half of what I had planted, requiring me to replant the garden. The added work put me in the ER (emergency room of the hospital - US medical care is a bit different than much of the world.😢) twice because I aggravated some impinged nerves in my lower spine & hip. I wasn’t able to weed the garden either because I had to have two injections in my lower spine to help with the pain. This was in addition to the twice a year injection I get in my left knee where the cartilage is worn away to bone. Fingers crossed that this year goes easier than last year this time. 🤞🏼🧎🏻‍♀️📿 My youngest daughter lifts clay bags to my work table to help reduce what I have to lift in the studio. Both our girls, my niece, & husband helped widen the spaces between rows this year so he can till the areas between rows that aren’t covered. They’ve all said they’ll pitch in so I don’t wind up in the ER or admitted to the hospital this year. Forgive me for rambling. It’s been a long day. Heck, it’s been a long week.

how do you get them not to deform permanently when you lift them off the wheel? Is it slightly thicker bases? I see that your cups are so soft when you lift them the rim actually compresses, when mine do that then its a hassle to get them to be round again and have to take some sort of sphere to reshape them and sometimes I am not happy with the result as I was when I had just thrown the piece, so more often than not, I will dry the piece on the wheel enough so that it doesn't move much when I lift it off, but then that means a piece takes me 15-20min total, even though the actual throwing took me 10

Very likely! Sometimes they score big lines in all the way around but they’re usually quite easy to smooth over. Even if I don’t, my glazes are usually thick enough to cover and hide any I forget to fix.

@@floriangadsby I was curious if that was enough to ruin the piece. I'm glad it wasn't.

When I pull handles and attach them when they are wetter than the cups, they always crack off the cup at one end. Do yours not do that because of the grog?
