I've always considered this my home park even though I live an hour from Great Adventure. I miss the walkthrough attraction in Timbertown, way back when it used to be Jungle Land. I'm glad you gave shout-outs to Martha's and Around the World/US!
My mother has a map of the park from the early 90s that still list this as a section. Shut down because the secluded nature + some questionable decisions people say. Can still see a good portion from the sky coster
That final shot of Million Dollar Beach and the golf courses there gave me so much nostalgia. That location alone has some great memories. This review in general gave me a ton of nostalgia. This did a great job being my homepark, and it's sad it's not 15 minutes away anymore.
I grew up in Western NY & Crystal Beach was our summer fun. It was popular before amusement parks became theme parks; it was a simpler time. It’s fun to see The Comet still operating. Thanks for good memories!
Really enjoy your in depth park reviews! Since I probably won't be coming here anytime in the near future or possibly ever, it is nice to get information and history about the park.
This park is sooo great for families! This is my true home park (though I like to consider SFNE my HP) I’ve been going since I was a little kid it has such a charm to it The comet was my first coaster, it’ll always hold the most special place in my heart
This was my hometown Six Flags park until 2016 when we moved to North Carolina to Carowinds (Though at the time it was still part of Cedar Fair before merging with Six Flags earlier this year) also, the new coaster drought at Great Escape ended earlier this year with the opening of Bobcat (Replacing Alpine Bobsled, which I rode before we moved), "Six Flags" was added to Great Escape last year along with "And Hurricane Harbor" which replaced Splashwater Kingdom
I grew up 25 minuets away from this park. I can honestly say no one associates this place with six flags unless you saw the six flags guy in the commercials growing up in the 2000s
7:52 The craziest thing about the great escape is that it’s 345 acres of land (4th most) and I’m pretty sure that they don’t use even half of it. But that’s proubly because of the swamp that’s behind ghost town.
Yeh, it would take a lot of work to make the land usable. It wouldn't really be worth it for the park to use it. The neighboring towns would also probably despise the clearing they'd have to do to use the land.
I've spent so long with a condor in my planet coaster park I almost tuned out the background music on this review - I always enjoy the music selection on these!
Awesome review! Great to hear that avalanche is sometimes open despite the app saying it’s closed, and that adults can ride the kiddie coaster. Fingers crossed that’s still the case this year.
This was my childhood park. My family would visit from Canada all the time. We would stay at the nearby Great Escape Lodge with the indoor waterpark and walk over to the park from there. You’ve brought back so many moments over the past few days. The Alice in Wonderland Walkthrough and riding the Comet are my earliest Theme Park memories. I will say, I am sad to see the park not getting the love it deserves from Six Flags. The park is only getting more decrepid. I’m just asking for them to do a lot of repainting, not like, shell out for a B&M Hyper or anything
Really great info on the traffic rules! I always assumed tearing down steamin demon for an rmc raptor would be wise but now I see why they might want to keep it how it is
From what I remember steamin demon was the million dollar ride it took me a few years before going in it. To me theme parks aren’t just roller coasters it’s family. They need to clean up the river in the middle and get the swan boats going again, bring back the live shows Lake George area has lost so much now with gas light village the water park is gone now the putts and prizes arcade and mini golf location of the oldest miniature golf in the USA. Magic forest, time town to many attractions gone. It’s time to bring them back
From the few years I lived in ny I had passed this park alot as I went to an ice cream shop across the street alot and wanted to go so its nice to see a video of it!!
Bobcat is going to be a solid addition to this park. The Lake George region is a solid area overall. Me and family went this past July and are already set to go back next June. Martha's Dandee Cream is definitely portion happy. I ordered an Italian sausage sub, and it was huge.
It's 4.5 hours from Darien Lake. The two closest Six Flags parks to Great Escape are La Ronde and Six Flags New England (2.5 hours away). Admission can be included when you stay at the Great Escape Lodge depending which package you pick.
Awesome honest review of my home park. I love the charm, but naturally hate the coaster lineup. Comet was running really fast towards the end of the year, and that coaster in the rain is another experience in itself! Those laterals at the end are fire in the rain!! I can't wait for the day we get an RMC Raptor. We're the perfect size park to get one, and we could own 3 trains and roll 2, always keeping one in maintenance to keep them optimized, and still not have major capacity issues due to our low attendance.... a boy can dream right?! Other concept I've had is sadly removing Alpine Bobsled and putting a proper coaster in it's place. Perfect location in center of the park, has gift shop next to it already you could alter and create a new exit through, and tons of space for queue lines under the track. Let me know next time you're in the area, and I'll let you know if/when Alpine Bobsled is running 🤙
I got lucky that Bobsled was open for me this year. I plan my trip around Lake George more than Great Escape. My Comet rides were in early August this year.
Just went today in June 2022. I only intended to be in the dry park but ran back to my car to grab my swimsuit! Had a fun time on the coasters and slides
I will say with the larger crowds during fright fest the ride opps for comet were some of the best I’ve seen both at this park and other parks. Like you said most day it’s at most a 15 minutes wait just inside the station without the zig zags being used. When I went to fright fest not only was the station full but it extended out al the way between supernova and the pool for the slides. And it was still Only a 15 minute wait.( maybe 25 for the front.). They had the station train ready to dispatch and even did dispatch it as the active train hit the final break run.
I generally choose Sasquatch Drop Side when I check into the park since I have my Diamond Elite Membership. Before I get onto other ones such as Condor, Canyon Blaster, and Steamin Demon. I choose the Comet when I'm ready. I do a flight on its Skycoaster upcharge attraction once in a while. When I eventually try out Adirondack Outlaw and Greezed Lightning, I might risk vomiting afterwards. Even after the ride on Flashback Boomerang especially during rollback.
The new entrance should help with congestion and the security process. However I've seen online that splash water island and flying trapeze are dismantled. Thoughts?
Biased question: Is Sidewinder the worst thrill coaster at Hersheypark? It's a Vekoma Boomerang, but with the manufacturer's trains with vest restraints. If it's not, then does the park have a bad coaster(in your opinion)?
What? I was flatly rejected from riding Frankie’s Mine Train! Even got there before anyone else to be sure I wouldn’t be taking a seat away from a kid, and I was still given an adamant no.
I had a similar issue with Great Chase at Six Flags America in my first few trips until I finally got the credit in 2020. Maybe it depends on the operator?

The comet is definitely the best ride. The operators allow rerides if their isnt a line. That may sound like a one in a million moment, but half the time I was at the great escape, it was just a walk on.
AstroWorld was also a "red headed" step child, as we'd often get relocated rides. Instead of B&M Batman, we got Vekoma SLC. But, to answer your question. Yes! Great Escape DOES have the old early themed park "charm". The trees & mountains really add to this wonderful old park. Thanks for the super GREAT video!
It was better then a full day adventure. Shame they started taking stuff away like jungle land all the live shows the circus and the live bank robbery in ghost town.
It's for these reasons that I take issue with people saying that Great Escape is the worst Six Flags park. The fact that it's so un-Six Flags-like is the reason I like it so much.
