  • Hello everyone! In this video, I am going to use packing material that I previously prepared to create an encaustic work. After the camera stops rolling, I attached it to a backboard piece I created and have a finished work. You can see photos of it on my Instagram page.
If you would like to see a bit of the prework, you can check out these videos

Thank you for sharing your process, Leslie! The finished gold touches give a mother of pearl look.

So true - its hard to be spontaneous and pre plan too. I try to leave the area I am going to attach something to alone till I feel Im near the end so working around it is minimal.

So glad I'm not alone! Yes, ideally that's my thought too, but I like to attach things at the beginning so I know it's very secure to the panel. Most adhesives don't work well with the encaustic and I don't always want to wire the pieces on. Lolol. It's my own undoing I suppose. Haha. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Glad to know I'm not alone in this dilemma!

Love your videos. Thank you for sharing. I’m curious about the tar. I’ve seen other artists using it. What kind of tar do you use. How and where do you buy. Went to local hardware store and only thing I found was “roof wet patch”.

Hello! Thank you for watching & for the question. I use some product my husband had leftover in the garage. But the artist I learned from suggested Henry's wet patch. So it is probably ok. Have good ventilation and it's very sticky! Enjoy!

For the base mixture you mention, stucco, paint -what type of paint milk or oil? Anything else in the mixture? I would like to make a batch and try this project. You have inspired me to try something new! ☺️

Hi ! Thank you for the question. I learned about a couple of mixtures from another artist. I took her classes. Out of respect for her, I don't give out the exact recipes. I'm hoping in the future to offer some classes as well. The joint compound is a key though! Chalk or milk paint should certainly work. I am using a product called Kilz to add to my mixture.
