Extremely Close Lightning Strike (@

Strike is at 0:39. Had rain all day here in NW Union county NJ along with a heavier storm cell coming through at around 8pm. Lots of cloud to ground strikes including one that was close enough to make that "hiss" sound before the thunder - probably the sound of the stepped leader connecting with the positive streamer. The time from first flash to thunder was a about half a second, so the strike was somewhere around 500 to 600 feet away.
Too bad the exposure got blown out or the bolt probably would have been visible since it looks like I was pointed in the right direction.

I didn't even know we were going to get any storms on Thursday. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know a storm was coming before I happened to look out my south facing window and saw tons of lightning flashes. lol
