    Am I missing anything important from my bag? What's your one must have travel item?

    • @Meraadj
      @Meraadj 6 лет назад +9

      Great video David!
      I always carry these as well:
      - bandana or sarong: multipurprose little towel
      - Remarkable paper tablet: for making notes, reading, doodling
      - carabiner/opener/key chain holder
      - some inspirational or philisophical book to read daily
      Btw if you could get some other travel bag, what would you get?!
      I have the Invisible Carry-On, haven't tested it though yet.

      Some gaffer tape or duct tape. Take an old credit card/store card etc and wrap the tape around the long side. It's invaluable.
      Also, if you plan on using the bullet trains, make sure you get the tourist pass in advance. You can't buy it in Japan but it makes travel a lot cheaper and a lot faster. Don't be like me and have to take the bus! Although the inter-city buses are like first class planes...

    I am impressed. A youtuber that doesen't take the whole studio to his trip.
    It is always so silly when you see youtubers travel bag for a few days and they take 2 cameras, 2 laptops, 3 headphones, 2 smartphones, 2 mices and 1 keyboard, 3 powerbanks etc on their trip.

      Bo Ismono Bo! Fancy seeing you here, haha I meant to ask (or search your channel) if you did any reviews on professional bags. I’m entering the working world and I have to graduate from my maxpedition Gryfalcon black, to something sleek, and preferably black leather. The kind of backpack a boring high ranking executive will use, or a lawyer in a suit. Your name is the fame of the backpack game so if there’s anyone’s review I trust, it’s gonna be yours. And David’s.

    Having been to Japan, backpack travel is definitely the way to go! There are many flights of stairs without elevators, and subways/bullet trains are more convenient when you just have a backpack that you can put on your lap if needed.

    • @HelloDavid
      @HelloDavid  6 лет назад +3

      Yeah. I'm definitely a lot more mobile with just a backpack. So many stairs here. And a smallish backpack fits perfectly in the cheap/small lockers in Japan.

    Cabin Zero is about 500-700 grams. A larger dual compartment packing cube with clean/dirty sides will save you more space and keep all the clothes in one place. Happy travels!

    Bought AER backpack after watching this video. At first wanted to return bag, because it cost me £200, but now I think it was really great purchase.
    From the material, design and build it looks like it's going to last me ages. Also, design is really good, everything is organised and accessible.

    Nicely done. As a backpacker, I would tell you to loose the compartmented clothing sacks- they only add weight and reduce space. The poncho seems like a good idea, but be prepared for wet sleeves- try an ultralight rain jacket instead; it can offer protection from the rain and wind. For two weeks, I’ll bet you could reduce your personal hygiene bag to something even smaller. Great video!!!

    I got those Bose ear buds a couple years ago for Christmas, and used them almost everyday for studying at school/the library for about 2 years. Now that I'm not in school, they're reserved for air travel because I don't feel comfortable listening to noise cancel headphones when I'm on a bus/train or walking around; gotta have spacial awareness. Mine are going strong; my brother's one the other hand, are starting to fall apart, but he's been using them on his daily commute.

    Awesome setup. I also have that Eddie Bauer bag and have used it during many trips!! It makes a great "day travel bag" when you don't need to carry much. It's held up well for me considering it cost less than $20.

  • @EarlyMist
    @EarlyMist 6 лет назад

    Awesome compact setup. Only thing missing in the clothes dept. Is a true waterproof jacket. No reason why not to carry one. I like the Ikea organisers and your clothes folding method. I saw a book about storing clothes like that once...something to do with Feng Shui. To me it just saves a ton of space and makes it easier to find things like they were in a mini wardrobe.
    I guess since you are travelling by air a folding or fixed blade knife is out of the question but if you hike as well it's essential. Maybe pick a legal one up in your destination country. Otherwise there are some good TSA safe multitool options out there without blades that are super super useful. Thanks for the vid 🖖

    Great video! I travel with a 30L backpack as well (Osprey Porter) and pack much like you do for a 2-week trip. I have a packable backpack too, but found myself just using a plain shopping bag during the day to carry my phone, camera, powerbank, small umbrella On my last trip, I bought a tote bag at a museum and used that a lot, especially for stuff I'd need on the plane so I didn't have to go to the overhead just to get the kindle.

    If your pack has too many straps, pockets, zippers, etc, just cut them off. I cut the pockets off my hip belt, and shortened the hip straps to just enough, took the extra pull-tabs off the zippers. This lightened it up a few ounces. Also, I weighed all my clothes and took the lighter ones - a 3 oz shirt instead of a 4.2 oz shirt. It adds up! And then I sewed another water-bottle pocket on.

    I used my Nomatic Kickstarter Travel bag + a 20L Pacsafe backpack for Japan last year for 2 weeks. Worked okay except when I bought too much and had bulky clothes that I didn't use! Sucked not having a rolling suitcase either when all the lockers at the train stations were full. I survived but was sweatier than I would've been with a typical suitcase. Only works if you're travelling super light and not carrying a DSLR either
    I also regret not taking my 18-55mm from Tokyo to Kyoto/Osaka and only using my 50mm. Great for closeups, horrible for every single temple even when I'm 100m away :(

    • @HelloDavid

      @@HelloDavid second hand Stores are your friend. When I ran out of space for things I found an old roller suitcase for 300 yen! (about $3) instead of buying a new suitcase for 4000 yen which was the cheapest I could find after many stores including tax free ones
      Also don't bring an umbrella like I did, there's cheap umbrellas to buy everywhere and my unit supplied one!

    • @syn3rgyz
      @syn3rgyz 6 лет назад

      @@HelloDavid if you want more room for souvenirs and don't want to bring an empty rolley suitcase check out the osprey farpoint 55. Usually when I go to other countries I would just ship the stuff I buy back. but shipping in Japan is VERY expensive. Every time i go to japan I try to bring an empty suitcase/bag of some sort.

    I would very much prefer to buy a sweater, windbreaker, slippers/slipons later at the trip location if required. Same with the small toiletries you just bought. If you are buying them here anyway, why not go there and buy them. Less to carry from here. Its one thing to stay prepared and carry whatever you required if you going to a rural place and other thing if you flying to a major country/town/city.
    Have a great trip!

      Oh don't get my wrong, I am not a great minimalist yet. Also I didn't mean to say you are carrying too much, I think for a 2 weeks trip you are already very minimalist.
      I just meant its my opinion that if there is something I think 'I might need it' I don't carry it if I know I can simply buy it there, same goes with generic stuff which I am buying for the trip. I will not buy it as I can buy there. My idea is I can dump them if I don't want to come back with them. Usually its hard to dump things if you brought them with you from home.
